@Nogre00: We are God the Father's spirit children--He is the Father of our spirits (see Acts 17:29, Romans 8:16, Hebrews 12:9).
The term "Only Begotten Son" refers only to Jesus Christ. While we are all the spirit children of God, there is only one--Jesus Christ--who is the *physical* son of God. According to the dictionary, begotten refers to beget, which means "(esp. of a male parent) to procreate or generate (offspring)."
Jesus is the Only Begotten Son of God, the only man to have been born into the world by the power of God. Christ is the mortal son of Mary the Virgin and God the Father, hence his Only Begotten Son, the only son to be the spirit child and physical child of God, this miraculous nature of Christ made him the only man to be able to atone for our sins.
@kakliza: Jesus Christ created this and other worlds under the direction of His Father: "And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ" (Ephesians 3:9). We also learn "God...Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds" (Hebrews 1:1-2).
@snuffokk: Our Heavenly Father definitely knows you, and He knows each of us individually as His beloved spirit children (Romans 8:16). In the Holy Bible, in Jeremiah 1:5 the Lord told Jeremiah: "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations." God knows us each personally, and has a plan for us.

Fun to read the comments. Amazing to know that eternal knowledge can only be a product of FAITH. Without faith, knowledge is fragmented, limited, cut off, and a mystery - based on a human limitations. With the eternal principle of faith, we learn humility and obedience which in turn prepares the mind for greater understanding...'consider the lilies - how they grow and toil' - is that not miracle enough to know it was Divine Intervention.
The way I understand it is Christians believe that Jesus IS God and worship him and he Mormon religion believes Jesus is God's son. So my question is do mormons actually consider Jesus a god? Because if the mormon religion believes Jesus is a god then they really worship two gods, Jesus and his father.
Help me understand if you mean that Mormons "uniquely" or—apart from other Christians—believe Jesus to be God's Son. Because the scriptures are quite clear that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. It's also in many Christian denominational creeds.
Thanks for the replies mike. I'm actually not really interested in whether Mormons uniquely do or don't believe the same as other Christians about Jesus being God's son. I'm actually interested as to whom Mormon's worship, God or Jesus because they apparently are two separate beings. Is God #1 or do you hold Jesus higher? That's what I meant to convey in my earlier post, so sorry for the confusion. I just want to know if you worship two supreme beings, or just one?
Yes, both personages, the Father and the Son, receive our worship and reverence. We worship God Most High (the Father) in the name of His Son, who said, "...I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne" (Revelation 3:21).
Paul taught: "For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him, **AND** one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him" (1 Corinthians 8:5-6). Here Paul distinguishes between God the Father and His Son.
The early Christian father, Eusebius, noted that "In these words (Moses) names first God Most High, the Supreme God of the universe, and then as Lord, His Word, Whom we call Lord in the second degree after the God of the universe" (Eusebius, Proof of the Gospel IV.9). This is how Paul could emphasize, when rejecting many gods of the Roman world, that for Christians there was one God, the Father, AND one Lord, Jesus Christ (1 Coringthians 8:6).
"The Old Testament was read as the record of two deities: God Most High and his Son Yahweh...Philo emphasized this...Philo implies there that some had mistakenly identified the Logos [Yahweh/Jesus] as God Most High" (Margaret Barker, a Biblical scholar who is *not* a Latter-day Saint, "Temple Themes In Christian Worship," p.79).
Yes Mormons classify themselves as Christians. We strive to follow the example and teachings of Jesus Christ, and He is the center of our worship. Mormons believe in a *restoration* of the ancient Church & priesthood set up by Jesus Christ and His Apostles. Therefore we do not claim to be a branch or descended from the various Christian denominations that formed in Medieval times.
How can Mormons believe that God actually comes from another planet called Kolob? there is no proof for this except "visions" from so called profits. i had a vision the other day when i took some salvia. haha
And I saw the stars, that they were very great, and that one of them was nearest unto the throne of God; and there were many great ones which were near unto it; And the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me...one revolution was a day unto the Lord, after his manner of reckoning, it being one thousand years (Abraham 3:3-4).
Umm, yeah, that "I only give ye an account of this world" isn't in my version of the Bible. Just sayin'.
Also, how does The Father telling Jesus "Let's make man in our image." reconcile with the fact the Jesus is also one of these Spirit Children or the fact that these Spirit Children existed before hand? Wouldn't he just say "Let's make sure the mortal bodies are the same sort of appearance as the spirit ones." ?
The quote you noted above is from The Book of Abraham. In the New Testament, Hebrews 1:2 notes "...His Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds." Jesus Christ is indeed the creator of many worlds. But Genesis only gives us the account of the creation of our world.
It was important that God said, "Let us make man in our image" instead of "make their bodies look like their spirits." By being created in the image of God, it means to be created in the essence of God, to be able to possess and develop some of His divine attributes: love, charity, compassion, mercy, honesty, just, holy, etc. It sets us apart from the animal kingdom by saying that mankind is in the image of God, inheriting some of His divine attributes and potential.
i know very little about the mormon faith, but do you believe in the literal description of creation or are you open to the idea of gradual evolution? don't get offended im just curious.
Hey thanks for the question! The Church has no official position on the processes of creation, other than that God was the author of it. The actual processes God used, we leave to science to investigate and also welcome any new revelation God will give on the matter.
Hello mikebatie, for me you have made one of the best videos here on Youtube, I love this video more, than I can express. Today you have healed my soul from sadness. God bless you!
I'm confused about the creation. I know Mormons believe that Jesus created the world under the direction of Jesus, but in the Biblical account (used here), it's God who creates everything. It seems like a contradiction to me.
Also, I know that Mormon doctrine holds that God has a body, yet even here we learn that the spirit of God was over the earth.
Thanks for your question. I will break my response into a few parts and do the best I can to answer the points of question you have. Some background first: LDS doctrine comes by revelation from God to modern day prophets. Scripture supports our views, but we do not simply read one or two verses in the Bible and form a doctrine around it. So any scripture I cite is just "supporting evidence" but not the source...revelation from God to His prophets is always the source of our doctrine.
We can say that God the Father created everything or "and God caused the dry land to appear" referring to the Father even though it was done by Christ because it was all under the planning and direction of God the Father. So in this sense God the Father is the supreme architect. Just like a head architect of a construction project doesn't do all the work himself, he has others to help him carry out the creation and building of his masterpiece, but we still say that the architect built it.
Colossians 1:13-15 "...his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: FOR BY HIM WERE ALL THINGS CREATED..."
Ephesians 3:9 "And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in GOD, WHO CREATED ALL THINGS BY JESUS CHRIST."
The term "the Spirit of God" is another way of referring to the Holy Spirit, or the Holy Ghost, who is the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God also has reference to "the power and influence of God," which I would think accurately describes the situation, with God's power and influence moving upon the void and formless earth as the creation was taking place.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're saying that the LDS church believes that the spirit of God is the same as the Holy Spirit? It was my understanding that the Holy Spirit was not the spirit of God in your faith, but rather another separate piece of the Godhead.
Thank you for answering my questions. I find the Godhead doctrine problematic, but I respect your views.
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are viewed 3 separate beings who comprise the Godhead. The Holy Ghost, like Jesus Christ, has many names and titles: Holy Ghost, Holy Spirit, Spirit of God, the Comforter, the Spirit of the Lord, the Holy Spirit of Promise. The Holy Spirit and the Spirit of God are the same to us, "Spirit of God" in the scriptures meaning the Holy Spirit that comes from, or is sent from God.
Lets not fight over our beliefs but learn from each other because of them.

In starting, the story as you have it is all mixed up.
God doesn't come from a planet named Kolob (and Kolob isn't even a planet).
Modern revelation has made known that the STAR *nearest* to the throne of God is called Kolob. That's it.
As for needing proof for things: "For we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7).
