Pirate Bays still up! Good to know! I will always be a pirate! I mean we all pirate something at some point in our lives. Support The Pirate Bay and torrents!
musicians now days should stop thinking they are gonna sell music omg O_O they need the torrents to get famous, the only way to get payed its jsut concerts so i like pirating lol xP
I have downloaded music I otherwise would have never heard, by dloading this I began to like his music and now I am buyin his stuff (because limewire is doown, but thats not the point :P) and when TPB goes down a 1000 wanna be piratebays come I its place and the seeders will keep seeding but the torrent is just on another website; in fact on other websites its like you have a waspsnest in a small room, you break the wasp's nest wasps get angry they sting you but wont die...
Music and movie industry are only made for profit, sosupporting them you simply support poverty. Why spend money on music and movies and make some people rich, when daily 17000 die for hunger? They tryy to stop torrents, they try to stop Open source.Generally they try to stop everyting that is meant for the wealth of the population. Why? the answer is simple. They only care about profit, and if they need to,they will make sure that everyone who stands in their way will probabily die poor!
I use Linux Ubuntu, and Mint to download from piratebay, because the viruses in the banner advertisement on piratebay don't effect any of the 1,000 Linux distributions...
Next thing you know they'll try to stop the GNU /GPL free software movement as well.
O - Wait they already did like when Microsoft tried to sue Linux groups for patent infringement . Microsoft, and Apple took code from Linux , then patented code, turned around and tried to sue the open source group they got the code from.
Well, at least the movie or album you got from TPB won't just get scratched and be worthless in a few months, digital media lasts forever. PS Megarelease and RLSLOG are much better than TPB now, more up to date, and download only, faster, better in every way.
Who cares its still running and no one can stop it Its illegal and takes away your rights for the FBI or and one else to put virus and other things to find u TPB will not be stop lol stupid FBI
New laws need to be created for file sharing. A similar situation occurred when the Radio was invented. Radio is free for listeners, paid for by advertisements. Don't currently agree with copyright owners and publishers not getting paid, but I agree that new laws need to be created to embrace file sharing in a similar fashion, either with subscription service or internet service providers front the cost and trickle down to users. Either way copyright owners need their cut.
the site is still up there is a fine that they have no plans to pay but who cares? I mean this is ONE site out a sea of sites just like it, what it really comes down to is this... all of the thousands of dollars I spent on shit cds, the production company's are just pissed because they can no longer make a killing off of shit product, pirating...what a joke I'm not paying for lost or stolen or damaged shit that I've already bought in the past.
@thegardenofthetomb Exactly. I see it as a way to get shit you lost ages ago, but did buy. And they are all just pissed that they cant leech as much money from us for shitty printing and frilly packaging anymore. :-|
This is totally ridiculous!!! If I drive down the street and hear music from the car next to me, then it means that I am breaking the law???!!! WHy the hell is all of this happening?
If you're REAL, It's not about MONEY it's about people HEARING YOUR MUSIC and BECOMING FANS. If you're a SHIT MUSICIAN without MILLIONS OF DOLLARS PUT INTO MARKETING YOUR MUSIC, you will not have these things. Bands like IRON MAIDEN, RADIOHEAD, NINE INCH NAILS, and THOUSANDS OF PUNK BANDS make a living off of MERCHANDISE and SHOWS. IF 60,000,000 PEOPLE DOWNLOAD YOUR RECORD "ILLEGALLY" THAT STILL MEANS 60,000,000 PEOPLE HEARD YOUR RECORD, and you're getting ENOUGH. ART IS NOT YOUR CROP. OURS.
This is a stupid case, music is suposed to be free, the creators are greedy basterd, and their agents, Free downloading music is like saying "We put price on art, becouse we can"
Its stupid, Music is the link to our soul, and if you put a price on it, you might aswell be a stoneage man!
Btw, i paused the video halfways, becouse you rambled and was not prepaird to make a speach, next time take 10 minutes and go thrue what you need to say before the actualy recoring.
I think it is BS. I think that as long as you are not selling it, then why cant you download it and watch it in your own home? There is no harm in that, or at least that is what I think. 9 times out of 10, you are going to end up buying the movie anyway if thats what you use the pirate bay for.
Lol, yeah that's right they never broke any laws. That's why they have been jailed for 12 months. It's called assiting others to commit a crime ass jockey. And no they don't just run a search engine, they run a search engine specifically for people searching to breach copyright laws. Try finding your local pizza shop on TPB.
they got put in jail for no reason they only run a search engine they just pretty much said i dont care your gone. what fucking losers if you look at everything they never broke any laws. tpb was a great search engine site for stuff i liked.o well back to google.
Why would they provide a user deletion interface when they say they have no information or logs to delete? It says 'no data will be transferred to the new owners', what they don't say is that the authorities may turn up and seize this information.
Because people asked for it, people who do not want to use the site if it is sold.
And as said no information is stored so it would be kinda hard to seize it.
And the authorities have already confiscated their servers once(2006), there was no mass prosecution of users and the site was up and running again a couple of days after.
Today they have servers in several nations (and I don't think Sweden is one of them) and only one member of the team actually lives here.
And the fact is that having an option to delete your account is nothing special, many websites have such functions. I was actually surprised to hear such a function did not exist from the very beginning.
And I know that at least here in Sweden many ISP's don't store any IP address details of their customers, making it quite difficult to find out who is behind a certain IP address.
Plus the fact that there are numerous VPN services people can use to be anonymous on the internet.
The point being that they are trying to sell the site thus having sold out their principles already whether the sale actually goes through or not. I really doubt they will be focusing much on their other torrent sites from jail. And how come the pirate bay have built a user deletion interface? Because they know the games up. The users are climbing over each other to delete their accounts before the authorities get their hands on them.
If they actually do go to jail it won't be for like 4 or 5 years.
And they have other projects as well, for example the video bay, a youtube contender.
How exactly is the authorities supposed to get their hands on anyone?
You know about the user deletion function but you obviously missed this little detail "we also want to point out that we have no logs of anything, no personal data will be transferred in the eventual sale (since no personal data is kept)"
I think a year in jail is enough to keep people amused at them for a while. and as for this bollocks - we also want to point out that we have no logs of anything, no personal data will be transferred in the eventual sale (since no personal data is kept)" - yeah right, they have no logs of anything, that's why they are providing a user deletion interface lol. Sounds like more bullshit from them and are covering their backs for when the authorities seize the details.
It makes me laugh the amount of peope that write shit like long live the pirate bay like it makes them some kind of new age freedom fighter. TPB sold out after all their big talk and bullshitting and the site is going to be a paysite very shortly. Fucking sellout gimps along with anyone who writes long live the pirate bay.
The site has not been sold yet, and it's not that unlikely that the sale will not take place at all
The deal is supposed to be finalized in August, but if they fail to make the site legal there won't be any sale
And many doubt they can make the site legal in such a short amount of time, it's even been reported that the buyers themselves are beginning to doubt it
Even if it is sold the people behind the pirate bay actually owns two other torrent sites and they will probably focus more on them.
The Pirate Bay did nothing WRONG TORRENTS AND TRACKERS ARE DIFFRENT
Torrents are the actual FILES
Trackers just tell you what files to downloads
They Hosted TRACKERS NOT THE ACTUALLY FILES
LimeWire Is the same thing and no one complains and thats full of virus
Itunes is diffrent because its just a regular download that you pay for
i heard a rumor that a company was gonna buy the pirate bay and make it legitimate and pay for the content to be distributed by probably filling the site with ads
Looool, 12 months of prison sex for the pirate bay fags. What kind of bell-end posts his highest seed ratio loooool. Most people who pirate stuff seem to be kids who haven't quite figured out how the world works yet and expect everything for free. Let's see how long they continue once they get a good 12 months of prison sex forced on them, see how long the fag bay lasts then.
hahah the internet my friends is like a universe of pb sites ur all here bitching about this one particular site yet theres millions of other sites that do the same shit better yet how come GOOGLE is not gettin into trouble huh? they are the ones who find these sites for u hahaha lmaoo
The unsubscribing is to go on until June 15th so we can make Fred so unpopular. Then on June 16th everyone must resubscribe so he will hold the record for most subscribed in a day!
PIRATE BAY IS THE BOMB every media should b freee nobody likes paying 4 movies that cost 17 bucks in normal salary thats an hour of work u have 2 do, i tink that desingners for games and directors for movies and artists for music should make theyre stuff for enjoyment not just to make money
You are a loser. Get a job and pay for it. You are stealing someone else hard work. You are stealing what someone else worked there whole lives to get. You are the very reason why we have just crap music in the USA. Who wants to go make a CD when they won't get anything for it.
Because there are 100s of people that worked on making the game you ass. Why can't I just get the car I want for free? Why can't I just get my food for free. Because someone else worked to get you that stuff.
Ok, I have an idea, let's all buy one ticket for the movies and share it, one ticket for sports games and share it, buy one insurance bill and share it, buy one satellite tv card and share it, in fact let's just designate one person worldwide to actually pay for things and everyone else can just share his stuff. That would work wouldn't it. Dumbass.
i think its the most retarded thing ever that they are even going to court cuz if your friend asked if he can listen to your ipod would you say NO of course not but as those fuckers would say he would be stealing its the same dam concept except on a much larger scale
I will buy a CD if I think the material is good enough. What you buy from iTunes are 128kbps bitrate. CDs are 1411.2kbps. That is 11.025 times the quality. That is a huge quality difference and it can be noticed. When I play streaming music or downloaded MP3 format songs, I can hear there is much less prominent bass representation. Pay for quality, although the artists barely make any money on album sales anyway. All income is from shows pretty much.
Just so you know, the bit rate is irrelevant because the music is in different formats. CD format requires much more space than MP3, and that makes the bitrate higher. MP3 shouldn't sound any different, even though the bit rate is lower.
I can tell the difference between 128kbps and 320kbps. I would assume some other people do as well. Under a scope, the resolution is much better as well.
Exactly! Compression used to be a problem at first... but the last few years I have found NO sound quality problems with my MP3's... and I'm a DJ who plays this stuff loud...
The funny thing is that it is actually the music corporate industry that is so against music sharing, not the artist. There are only few artist out there that care so much about this. If i'm a music artist, sharing my music would be greatest thing to do for me, the money is secondary. True artist don't chase for money; true artist share their creativity, they give, they don't take
Fewer than 1% of artists are in favor of criminal piracy orgs. Mostly desperate failures and a few guys that already made millions. Piracy steals tens of billions from millions of workers.
I am a musician and write music and share it I don't do it for money I do it because I am nice and want people to enjoy it and I feel that those people who do this paid music is not a real musicians but just somebody who has the tallent but doesnt care about it
Or maybe these people have real talent but want to provide for their families also. How much talent is wasted because musicians have to work 9 to 5 working in the local store to pay the bills. What's wrong with making a living from what you love doing? You probably don't do it for the money because nobody would give you any money for what you make, so you give it away to get some kind of recognition then bitch at those good enough to make a living from it.
the only reason why piracy is illegal is because rich people loose money over it, if rich people can't make money off you then its illegal, thats capitalism, i say fuck rich people, its time that we start sharing and helping each other live equal and good lives, rich people know that thanks to piracy they will be less able to hold everyone else down, and they will no longer feel superior to us, this is why they are against piracy
Wolverine Origins has just been confirmed to have made 34 million on its opening day. That's only one million less than Iron Man. This is after a month of illegal downloading, negative internet buzz, and the fact that it's the 4th film in a franchise.
Point? Strong marketing is most important. Stop wasting money on something you'll never win. Invest more money into marketing and trust your artists/audience.
companies make cds for pennies and charge £13-14 each, and hardly any goes to the artist...boycott people like cbs and wmg until the artists get a decent deal...parasites
Making the dvd's themselves isn't that expensive. However, the cost of distributing, storing, creating the graphic art, advertising the music and paying all the artists and other involved copyrights before they can even sell the cd. Then the music stores get a cut of what's left.
It comes up to a lot.
That aside, they've sunk plenty of money into getting legal online distributorship like itunes and zune where you can get music for cheaper and you can get the songs you want.
i tottally agree with ferreira.internet is the power of the people.i do not agree with not payong totally the rights but 20 dollars for a cd ?they been stealing for centuries.put a cd 10 dollars and then we can talk.internet protects peo-le like it or not it is our force!
If you go in store and you will buy movie... how you can know is it bullshit or is it best ever. You have to dload that movie torrent watch it and then think is that movie good to buy for.
You see there is this place call a video store were you can rent the movie for like five dollars. If you don't want to do that there is this other place called Netflix. And other places in the world have something just like it. Also most people know if they like the movie before they even by it by just look at what is called a Trailer.
There's millions of dollars in copyright infringement, but who cares, after all the music industry squeezes most artists for their talent and gets about 90% of the price of their albums....the hypocrisy stuns me.
People should not upload the music of inspiring artists. That is just having some humanity. But as far as big music industry content is concern, it is fine to download because your don't starve to death before of TPB. Yes, but most of us who download don't really have money to afford $2000 software.
The Pirate Bay shouldn't really be found guilty on anything. The US actually pushed the Swedish Courts on jailing TPB, and while that was a dick move, it was completely on false terms. TPB does not POST illegal torrents on their site, they just provide LINKS to the files, and providing LINKS is NOT illegal. What TPB should do is appeal to the swedish courts, and that's what I think they are going to do.
How ridiculous is this case? I mean i my self and i know many other people who download via torrents if they like the music they download they go and buy the cd. Its only like lending the cd to your friend so they can put it on their comp or ipod or whaatever its so retarded. You tube is just like TPB as there is so much music on here and music videos and tv shows etc you can easily get software to download off it or even just watch it on the website all the time.
The judge is now suspected of being baised. Which is a serious accuse but with good grounds.
Anyway, what I am furious about with this trial is that most people are completly ignoring or haven't even heard about the SOM-report that the KTH institute in Sweden has written that prooves that illegal filesharing, and filesharing overall, is good for the media industry. People who do filesharing buys more CDs, goes to the movies more often than people who don't. Which is quite logical in my ears.
As long as an artist gets a cent for a ten dollar CD, I will feel no guilt taking a copy I wouldn't buy anyway. Once the price for media becomes affordable (say, $0.99 per album, and an optional dollar should I want the physical disc) I'd have no problem buying a new cd as soon as I've finished listening the old one.
indication that file sharing displaces sales." "Music that doesen't sell good has minature decrese in sales"(Oberholzer-Gee File sharing, 2005)
The music companies are worried they wont sell enough baad cd's so insted of making sure they only publish good music they trie to stop people to finding out what is bad music. The financial chrises is the main reason in drop of record sales. But why not blame that on Torrents.
My thoughts: Good riddance. Not the biggest fish, but definitely the most annoying, arrogant, assholeish. Hope it sticks.
Funny thing is...it was a business model. A business model For TPB. They made about 1.2M a year on advertising, while the content providers (artists) got jack and shit. Maybe a CD or two got bought, but few and far between. Why buy what one already has in their possession?
Many musicians now are like battered wives when it comes to pirating..hard to elaborate here.
TPB helps people find music that they like. I have bought COUNTLESS CDs that I discovered and listened to on TPB. Why must we legal internet users be punished. TPB is nothing but a search engine.
I think the solution for the companies is to make money using the technology, like pirate bay does. Use advertisements to make money letting the people to enjoy the movies, music, etc. for free. Thats better than just complaint.
personaly i think a law to ban free downloading is a bunch of bullshit and fuck copyright its not a reasonable law its cause the companys just want there damn money
It's the same old story, industry is resisting change and using political influence to keep the status quo. Plus I stopped buying music from stores and outlets and such and instead try to contact the artists directly to ask whether or not they would accept my payment directly. They usually respond, but the ones that tell me to buy from store or iTunes i stop listening to them. Most songs now though have high production value but very little content so I feel no real motivation to buy anyway.
TPB's business was very successful from what I understand. They charged for advertising space on their website, and made revenue based on the high volume of traffic they generated. I don't think any of them are worried about the 4 million dollar fine. In todays age, content creation or even distribution isn't where the power or money lies, everyone has the power to make content. Even real talent is so common its value is at an all time low. Today the power is the search engine.
what about composers? Not every artist is a performance artist. Composers of music, scripts, stories, books, software, games etc. rely on being paid by selling copies. It's also worth mentioning that gigs don't always pay well and many bands lose money touring, or just break even. Keep in mind many larger venues are owned by powerful forces in the music industry and if you're not on the right team and with the right people you don't play, let alone get payed.
Musicians need to use sites like tpb to their advantage. They think that they need a record deal to be successful but they don't. I think file-sharing is a great way for artists to independently get their dream without relying on shitty record companies that will try to rip everyone off including the artists themselves...
Loads of singers and bands now can't even sing/play properly live. A proper musician should be great to see live and so should get the most money off gigs.
Albums should mainly be a form of advertising.
I think this is a great way to single out the proper artists from the fake ones.
Thanks to file-sharing I have discovered many new bands that I've paid to go and see live. It's a great way to advertise so make the most of it!
A lot of artists have put their music on The Pirate Bay to start off their music career. I have a friend that's in a band and has just done that.
I bet in a few years time there will but a artists that have gotten really big and started off on sites such as The Pirate Bay. And, when that happens, it will encourage many other artists to do the same.
Hopefully. I think somewhen in the future all of these companies are going to have to face the reality. The Pirate Bay and file-sharing in general does help artists, it's just the record companies complaining.
Yeh, its basically the whole entertainment industry that has the problem. File-sharing is out there now and the only way to successfully stop it is to stop the internet. But what they aren't getting is that even without file-sharing, we would still be sharing films and music for free. Piracy is nothing new, its been going on for hundreds of years in different forms. The sharing of music, films and information will never and can never be stopped, no matter how many people they take to court.
As a great musician ones said: "I have no problem with you downloadng my music, but if you ever see me hungry on the street pleas give me a dollar." Or something like that.
When i become a productive musician i will not care if people download my music for free from some torrent. Ill be flattered that people likes my music.
Check out the story of Joel Tenenbaum. He's being sued by the RIAA for downloading 7 songs illegaly...but they're suing him for hundreds of thousands.
And Radiohead's manager is testifying AGAINST the record industry as far as proving them wrong in relation to free downloads...AKA: Radiohead's new album, their sales went up...etc.
I hate illegal torrents, nobody is enthusiastic about writing or buying music anymore because of it, I hope it all goes away within the next half decade or so.
I think it gives smaller artists more exposure. I'm much more likely to get into an artist and thus go to their concerts, buy t-shirts, etc. if I don't have to worry about wasting my money on a shitty song that I wouldn't buy anyway.
Ehhh, good musicians make tons of money without their album sales, for example: Clothing, most clothing costs as twice as much as album to purchase. Then we have tours, ads, pictures, and the list goes on. Out of respect to my favorite musicians I buy their albums. Then again I don't have that many favorite musicians because the overwhelming majority of modern music sucks, but thats just me =). Go Metallica!
There are so many singers and bands who first uploaded their songs on the Pirate bay to get noticed and then when the got their contract they started whining... I think thats just bullshit.
Piracy just increases the quantity and cuality of music, atleast here in sweden.
THATS BS! File sharing is just that, sharing. As long as there's no money exchange no harm done. Downloads online have given, musicians especially, more exposure than ever. The record company's and others alike are the ones who rip off artist, not the people. Torrents and all other types of file sharing are not going anywhere. Copy right holders can continue to make examples out of a few but the online community cannot be brought down.
Soulja Boy, 50 Cent, and all the other crap artists. Maybe if those large corporate music industries produce good music, people might actually pay money for it.
On the other hand, indie hip-hop labels like Def Jux are worth to support. Def Jux have great underground hip-hop artists such as Aesop Rock, Mr.Lif, C-Rayz Walz, Cannibal Ox, Cage, Yak Ballz, Murs etc.
Elo-P, the CEO, producer and co-owner of Def Jux has been doing great hip-hop since 92 when he was in the hip-hop group Company Flow. He makes concerts with other artists in Def Jux, often with Aesop Rock.
I think that as long as you're not making a profit out of the stuff you download then it should be okay. With software like Adobe CS4 costing more than over 1000 dollars, you think people have that kind of money to pay for it? The answer is no.
until the costs are paid off. Then after that the artists get the whole profit from concerts. Good solution? Yes.
Well I listen to alot of hip-hop, yes it's real nice music, some of you guys might not agree. Anyways, most of the bad "hip-hop", I like to call that kind of "hip-hop" for crap, is made by major record companies. At the same time there are good artists signed there but I still don't want to support the greedy company people.
Why would sharing files be bad? Now in Sweden we have Ipred, a stupid law, they can now track our IPs because of downloading torrents. The best is to use VPN but I haven't fixed it yet.
Why would downloading movies or music be bad? I don't want to support greedy major record companies that have artists that basically suck. I want to support the good artists and the good indie labels. A good solution is another contract, the label releases the songs for free but get a part of money from concerts
To me, as a musician, the ultimate feeling of satisfaction, is when l realise someone, somewhere is playing a track l made, or when l'm on stage and l see ppl dancing...
But most of the time, l get really pissed by all kinds of business/companies, that consider my music as a way for them to make money...
It's not me, that wants to be aired on MTV, or wants to have a recordlable, l just want to play the music....
F*** the music industry, they are responsible for the expensive CD in the shops
My thought is that shuting down the "open" internet is a bad idea. Now everything is going to get anonymous and childporn etc. will flourish. Piracy of your music wont stop because of this.
I dont know what to say either. But i guess we just need to be responsible in what we do or in our actions. If you dont want to be thrown in jail, then dont do it. If you dont want to be caught, stay away from it or i mean be really away... outside the US. That site was able to somehow helped alot of people around the globe, may be good or bad in your eyes and whatever the reasons they have...
but really my opinion is like it goes both ways like as far as music who wants to buy a whole cd if you only want to hear 1 song off it thats why i think itunes is good i guess giving people the option to choose but really like me if i like a band i'm gonna go buy the cd to support them and if i don't buy the cd then i'm definitely going to their show but pirating is like one of those things thats bad and good at the same time sorta like mostly everything good and bad
I think torrents are the future Idea of anti money. We're moving forward in the idea's of the world and I don't know where it's going for sure, but it feels like anti money or anti market monopoly or something to that effect. I don't mean just free stuff, but maybe moving away from being so profit oriented. Maybe moving to another form of compinsation? I dunno. Something better I'm seeing
It was once said to me that there are no original ideas - it's the spin that each of us put on those ideas that make them our own. That said, this is just another case of a government or corporation trying to leech into a product, good, or service that they can manipulate and get money from. It's a system of manipulating people in a seemingly legal way. If somebody, somewhere, wasn't affected in their purses, it would never be an issue. Maybe they are afraid that we're enjoying ourselves..
If you're a good band/musician, you'll make money from doing shows/touring and from people who want your actual CD /merchandise. If you suck, well thats life bro, get a job like everyone else.
You can't fight technology, you can't encapsulate your art, you can't "copyright" frequencies. Sorry man. I can paint the mona lisa or reproduce a metallica riff on the guitar/ piano/ laptop anytime I want.
So someone cant go out and copyright a book? They are just words. If what you say is true than people cant copyright a business logo because it is just an image or a company name because it is just sounds put together to form a name. Nobody said anything about you reproducing a song on your piano. That isnt illegal. Someone recording a song to sell as entertainment is called providing a service. Not paying for that service is illegal. It is theft. It has nothing to do with copyrighting sounds.
Hey, I dont give a shit about $. I'm not copying albums or "business logos" to sell or make money. If I want to spray paint your business logo on the side of my car I'll do that. Emulating sounds or copying music in CD format or on the street corner with a guitar is "copying music". I can copy a book word for word and put it on my bookshelf, I'm not selling it. But it's "illegal" either way, which is stupid.
fuck this... i'm going to download more out of spite now. piracy doesn't decrease record sales. i've discovered all of my favorite bands on bittorrent, and i bought albums from all of them.
I think the whole case stinks of shite, these people have been made examples of. We are all told that the open free-market economy is good , but when it goes against the corporations, they cry like babies. Boo Hoo :o(
If we were living in the 1800's the chiefs at pirate bay would have had their heads chopped of by now......Nothing changes.
Internet has come to yet another milestone. Sweden was once a free country with its own independent laws, but it has now changed and the company America has taken a little bit of our freedom. Our societies must be developed more quickly to keep pace with technology. The Internet has grown out of the laws of many countries, but why punish the revolutionaries? What they have done is not illegal, pirates are the ones who download copyrighted material, not those that control the ship.
Pirate Bays still up! Good to know! I will always be a pirate! I mean we all pirate something at some point in our lives. Support The Pirate Bay and torrents!

Nothing happened. TPB is still around, torrents can't be stopped.
Once the music, movie, and gaming (gaming is no where near as bad as the other two) industries realize that.
The sooner their problems will go away. They need to work WITH torrents, not against it.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS!
Pirate bay is not a file sharing website. They do not provide free movies or anything.
The only thing they provide , is user uploaded torrents.
And torrents themselves do not contain illegal material.
Torrents are like chat systems.
There are senders and receivers.
The torrent files link the senders and receivers , so they can exchange their files.
TPB is an indirect content search engine , just like Google.
If you shut TPB down , you might as well shut Google down.

Well I would download it in a few min, why should I pay for it when I dont have any money left? So whats the bid deal?
There are pirates, and it will still pirates out there stealing a movie and so on...
So I support TPB >:)

OURS.

Why would they provide a user deletion interface when they say they have no information or logs to delete? It says 'no data will be transferred to the new owners', what they don't say is that the authorities may turn up and seize this information.
Straightfromcompton1 2 years ago
Because people asked for it, people who do not want to use the site if it is sold.
And as said no information is stored so it would be kinda hard to seize it.
And the authorities have already confiscated their servers once(2006), there was no mass prosecution of users and the site was up and running again a couple of days after.
Today they have servers in several nations (and I don't think Sweden is one of them) and only one member of the team actually lives here.
jimmyn89 2 years ago
And by the way, do you know why their servers were confiscated in 2006?
It had little to do with the Swedish police, the Swedish government or Sweden at all, their servers were confiscated on orders from the United States.
But that's not unexpected, the US is not called the world police without a reason.
jimmyn89 2 years ago
And the fact is that having an option to delete your account is nothing special, many websites have such functions. I was actually surprised to hear such a function did not exist from the very beginning.
And I know that at least here in Sweden many ISP's don't store any IP address details of their customers, making it quite difficult to find out who is behind a certain IP address.
Plus the fact that there are numerous VPN services people can use to be anonymous on the internet.
jimmyn89 2 years ago
And even if they did get information about every single user what are they going to do about it?
They are obviously not going to prosecute 20+ million people.
Plus you only have to be a registered member if you are going to upload torrents, you can download without being a member.
jimmyn89 2 years ago
The point being that they are trying to sell the site thus having sold out their principles already whether the sale actually goes through or not. I really doubt they will be focusing much on their other torrent sites from jail. And how come the pirate bay have built a user deletion interface? Because they know the games up. The users are climbing over each other to delete their accounts before the authorities get their hands on them.
Straightfromcompton1 2 years ago
If they actually do go to jail it won't be for like 4 or 5 years.
And they have other projects as well, for example the video bay, a youtube contender.
How exactly is the authorities supposed to get their hands on anyone?
You know about the user deletion function but you obviously missed this little detail "we also want to point out that we have no logs of anything, no personal data will be transferred in the eventual sale (since no personal data is kept)"
jimmyn89 2 years ago
I think a year in jail is enough to keep people amused at them for a while. and as for this bollocks - we also want to point out that we have no logs of anything, no personal data will be transferred in the eventual sale (since no personal data is kept)" - yeah right, they have no logs of anything, that's why they are providing a user deletion interface lol. Sounds like more bullshit from them and are covering their backs for when the authorities seize the details.
Straightfromcompton1 2 years ago
It makes me laugh the amount of peope that write shit like long live the pirate bay like it makes them some kind of new age freedom fighter. TPB sold out after all their big talk and bullshitting and the site is going to be a paysite very shortly. Fucking sellout gimps along with anyone who writes long live the pirate bay.
Straightfromcompton1 2 years ago
The site has not been sold yet, and it's not that unlikely that the sale will not take place at all
The deal is supposed to be finalized in August, but if they fail to make the site legal there won't be any sale
And many doubt they can make the site legal in such a short amount of time, it's even been reported that the buyers themselves are beginning to doubt it
Even if it is sold the people behind the pirate bay actually owns two other torrent sites and they will probably focus more on them.

All income is from shows pretty much.
fingerboy18 2 years ago
Just so you know, the bit rate is irrelevant because the music is in different formats. CD format requires much more space than MP3, and that makes the bitrate higher. MP3 shouldn't sound any different, even though the bit rate is lower.
MattandVitosWebcast 2 years ago
I can tell the difference between 128kbps and 320kbps. I would assume some other people do as well. Under a scope, the resolution is much better as well.
fingerboy18 2 years ago

Or maybe these people have real talent but want to provide for their families also. How much talent is wasted because musicians have to work 9 to 5 working in the local store to pay the bills. What's wrong with making a living from what you love doing? the only reason why piracy is illegal is because rich people loose money over it, if rich people can't make money off you then its illegal, thats capitalism, i say fuck rich people, its time that we start sharing and helping each other live equal and good lives, rich people know that thanks to piracy they will be less able to hold everyone else down, and they will no longer feel superior to us, this is why they are against piracy

It's the same old story, industry is resisting change and using political influence to keep the status quo. Plus I stopped buying music from stores and outlets and such and instead try to contact the artists directly to ask whether or not they would accept my payment directly.

DEFkon001 2 years ago
what about composers?

VitoCorleoneIsMyHero 2 years ago 3
Loads of singers and bands now can't even sing/play properly live. A proper musician should be great to see live and so should get the most money off gigs.
Albums should mainly be a form of advertising.
I think this is a great way to single out the proper artists from the fake ones.
Thanks to file-sharing I have discovered many new bands that I've paid to go and see live. It's a great way to advertise so make the most of it!
I will ALWAYS support file-sharing.
Long live The Pirate Bay! <33

didn't one artist make their debut on the pirate bay?
deadmoose1993 2 years ago
Probably.
VitoCorleoneIsMyHero 2 years ago

Hm...
I see why and hown its illegal, But!
As a great musician ones said: "I have no problem with you downloadng my music, but if you ever see me hungry on the street pleas give me a dollar." Or something like that.
When i become a productive musician i will not care if people download my music for free from some torrent. Ill be flattered that people likes my music.

RIAA is FAIL. Court is FAIL. Sue is FAIL. The truth will prevail. and Truth is not big blind greedy corporations.

I believe in the free distribution of all media, including my own which I made. I torrent and give out CDs of my own band.
Besides, bands make almost no money off CD sales anyways.
ZidaneFTW 2 years ago 2
Check out the story of Joel Tenenbaum. He's being sued by the RIAA for downloading 7 songs illegaly...but they're suing him for hundreds of thousands.
And Radiohead's manager is testifying AGAINST the record industry as far as proving them wrong in relation to free downloads...AKA: Radiohead's new album, their sales went up...etc.
It's all really interesting.

I hate illegal torrents, nobody is enthusiastic about writing or buying music anymore because of it, I hope it all goes away within the next half decade or so.
MezzPaul 2 years ago
I think it gives smaller artists more exposure. I'm much more likely to get into an artist and thus go to their concerts, buy t-shirts, etc. if I don't have to worry about wasting my money on a shitty song that I wouldn't buy anyway.
not to say I actually download illegally...-_o
GaramRee 2 years ago
Well, if the prices weren't as high, maybe the piracy wouldn't be so high too.
TeamDattebayoPT 2 years ago
Agreed!.
Many people cant afford it.
Coldsneaker 2 years ago
Ehhh, good musicians make tons of money without their album sales, for example: Clothing, most clothing costs as twice as much as album to purchase. Then we have tours, ads, pictures, and the list goes on. Out of respect to my favorite musicians I buy their albums. Then again I don't have that many favorite musicians because the overwhelming majority of modern music sucks, but thats just me =). Go Metallica!
oreion69 2 years ago
There are so many singers and bands who first uploaded their songs on the Pirate bay to get noticed and then when the got their contract they started whining... I think thats just bullshit.
Piracy just increases the quantity and cuality of music, atleast here in sweden.

It doesnt improve quality mate.. thats what sound studios are for :P.

True the system doesent make sence, copyright what does that even mean???
DDUFubar 2 years ago
Means that you cant use a song unless you have a deal with the copyright owner. The deal is often made by purchasing a cd or so.

why do it? it is against the law everywere! why do it? yes i agree with you walt. iTunes is the legal way, so is amazon.

if someone is so cheap and broke they have to get their music from like limewire and pirate websites
then i doubt they would buy the real music anyway, so it would be like nothing happened haha

Rickeeey1 2 years ago
I think that as long as you're not making a profit out of the stuff you download then it should be okay. With software like Adobe CS4 costing more than over 1000 dollars, you think people have that kind of money to pay for it? The answer is no.
zombiecrowtv 2 years ago
until the costs are paid off.
Rickeeey1 2 years ago

F*** the music industry, they are responsible for the expensive CD in the shops
elfeneye2 2 years ago
My thought is that shuting down the "open" internet is a bad idea. Now everything is going to get anonymous and childporn etc. will flourish. Piracy of your music wont stop because of this.
Robinsa 2 years ago
I dont know what to say either. But i guess we just need to be responsible in what we do or in our actions. If you dont want to be thrown in jail, then dont do it. If you dont want to be caught, stay away from it or i mean be really away... outside the US. That site was able to somehow helped alot of people around the globe, may be good or bad in your eyes and whatever the reasons they have...
pikachoi2007 2 years ago
but really my opinion is like it goes both ways like as far as music who wants to buy a whole cd if you only want to hear 1 song off it thats why i think itunes is good i guess giving people the option to choose but really like me if i like a band i'm gonna go buy the cd to support them and if i don't buy the cd then i'm definitely going to their show but pirating is like one of those things thats bad and good at the same time sorta like mostly everything good and bad

I dunno. Something better I'm seeing
sonnybrown 2 years ago
It was once said to me that there are no original ideas - it's the spin that each of us put on those ideas that make them our own. That said, this is just another case of a government or corporation trying to leech into a product, good, or service that they can manipulate and get money from. It's a system of manipulating people in a seemingly legal way. If somebody, somewhere, wasn't affected in their purses, it would never be an issue. Maybe they are afraid that we're enjoying ourselves..

free.
Ritzoid 2 years ago
So someone cant go out and copyright a book? They are just words. If what you say is true than people cant copyright a business logo because it is just an image or a company name because it is just sounds put together to form a name. Nobody said anything about you reproducing a song on your piano. That isnt illegal. Someone recording a song to sell as entertainment is called providing a service. Not paying for that service is illegal. It is theft. It has nothing to do with copyrighting sounds.
OzzyCoop 2 years ago
Hey, I dont give a shit about $. I'm not copying albums or "business logos" to sell or make money. If I want to spray paint your business logo on the side of my car I'll do that. Emulating sounds or copying music in CD format or on the street corner with a guitar is "copying music". I can copy a book word for word and put it on my bookshelf, I'm not selling it. But it's "illegal" either way, which is stupid.
Ritzoid 2 years ago
I feel this is one of the beginnings of Internet fascism.
The RIAA is stuck in the past and they want us as consumers and producers to stay there.
They need to evolve or die and copyright needs a serious revamp to fit with the internet age.
Music is moving on the net, whether the recording industry like it or not.
I also want to emphasize that TPB does NOT host the actual files. The users do, in whole or in pieces.

Bullshit, on the music maybe but ( i have never used it lol)
how the HELL does adobe expect a designer like me to buy one programe foe £400+ ??
maybe people wouldnt do this if the proce of software wasnt as much as the people were fined for runnign the site

fuck this... i'm going to download more out of spite now. piracy doesn't decrease record sales. i've discovered all of my favorite bands on bittorrent, and i bought albums from all of them.

i think piracy to some extent is ok, no1 is doing it for profit so i think its cool

Well done....Good video, Walt

Internet has come to yet another milestone. Sweden was once a free country with its own independent laws, but it has now changed and the company America has taken a little bit of our freedom. Our societies must be developed more quickly to keep pace with technology. The Internet has grown out of the laws of many countries, but why punish the revolutionaries? What they have done is not illegal, pirates are the ones who download copyrighted material, not those that control the ship.
