Nazi's hadn't yet shown their true colours so people trusted them and thought they could help Germany. At the time Germany was suffering due to the treaty of versaille which left them with vast amounts of debt and loss of land and the depression and hyperinflation didn't help. Therefore people turned to the Nazi party. Hughes being a Nazi doesn't make him bad.
