@kanguesso because no one knows if these Sambo players were Master of Sports (aka black belts). Who knows, maybe the were white belts or blue belts... because as someone who does Sambo and Judo, trust me, they are YEARS away from being Sambo black belts ... YEARS! and remember, Rigan was a high level BJJ black belt (3rd or 4th degree at that time) VS guys who probably did Sambo for a 2-3 years at most.
@kanguesso Yap that's exactly what I am saying because this was no world championship, this was no national championships or pan ams or whatever. This was a local competition in a basketball gym and yet Rigan is an outstanding HIGH LEVEL grappler. In Sambo, there's NO WAY to distinguish or know the level your opponent is in, the uniform does not explain the level. Based on the way these guys fights, they are probably blue-purple belt (at the highest) in comparison to BJJ
A luta perde até a graça por conta do "comentriasta"...kkkkkkkk..quebra essa porra .... kkkkk " Canto tá?!?! 0 x 0 .... 0X0 ..poraaa. tão robandonessa merda... Bora Rigão quebra essa porraaa....kkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Pls dont say that again, you are only making a fool of yourself.Rigan Machado is one of the most famouse Bjj masters of all times.
But even though i train Bjj i have to say this really isnt just Bjj vs Sambo, this is one of the best Bjj masters EVER against "regular" Sambo practicioners.
@znjfl I'll say what ever the fuck I want, sorry for pointing out the obvious but this is SAMBO not BJJ. Because Rigan is a BJJ master doesn't mean he doesn't train Sambo. Its called cross training!!!
@19thaman79 His "proffesional life" is quite public,he never trained Sambo,he simply competed in all grappling championships, including Bjj,Sambo,Judo and ADCC.This is simply Rigan using Bjj in a Sambo competition under Sambo rules. All three are extremely similair so when its under Sambo rules ofcourse it looks like Sambo.
@znjfl Lets agree to disagree. I oppologize for the bad mouthing. Reguardless of the similarities or differences, I have respect for all and enjoy learning new techniques every day. I I have trained BJJ for a couple of years now and am a blue belt under 2 of Joe D'Arces blackbelts. D'Arce is one of Renzo Gracies students. I will soon be training more Judo under Joe Turchiano who trained in Japan under 2 of Kanos top students, master Otaki(9th dan) and master Kotani(10th dan). Do you train?
I train but im not at your level yet,i train for about 2 years now.In Croatia Bjj exists for about 6-7 years so its still a very new sport/martial art.I train at Werdum Combat Team. And ofcourse i agree with you, every martial art and especially every grappling martial art mix very well with each other.I also apologize for the bad mouthing :)
@znjfl I have respect for Rigan because I consider him a true grappler. He competes in ALL grappling styles and wins. A+ for that. This is a bit of a hard video to judge by. In Sambo, there are rank belts and we all know that during this video Rigan probably was a high level BJJ black belt. Who knows who he was fighting? He might have been fighting a Sambist that's been training for 1 year or 2 years or 3... still we don't know how good the Sambo guy was (def. he was not a Master Sambo guy).
@pcjudosambo Yeah i know, but considering how skilled Rigan is i wouldn`t be suprised if he defeated top level fighters either.Rigan is not a "normal" Bjj black belt.
@znjfl yeah but you know, under Sambo rules, top level BJJ black belt Rickson lost to Ron Tripp in Sambo Nationals back in 1993 (also the whole thing about Rickson not knowing the rules is false, he has competed in dozens of Sambo comps prior to the loss). So I would LOVE to see Rigan against someone that is top level Sambo in a Sambo comp (eg Fedor, Oleg Taktarov, Ron Tripp, Kurinoy, Yakimov) guys that hold major Sambo titles. I'd PAY to see this fight !!! Rigan might have some stiff comp!
@pcjudosambo True under Sambo rules he would have less chance than under Bjj rules but i still think he would do really good.He would probably lose against atleast some of the top competitors cuz its hard when you have to fight your opponent AND the rules but he would still do REALLY good.A top grappler is a top grappler,no matter which art :))
@pcjudosambo The fact of the matter is Tripp threw him and won, there was no true test of skill like in BJJ where if you though me, let's see if you can take me on the ground. You put those guys who are younger against Rigan who is older and fatter, and he would probably bust their asses if the gay ass ippon rule isn't applied,
@RightWingCon81 ippon in Sambo or Judo is not a "gay ass rule". There is a lot of scientific data that backs up the rule. With a clean throw like that not only you can shock your opponent enough to run away or take other action, but you can actually break bones & KO the guy. Remember, Sambo is "Self Defense Without Weapon", which teaches you to "STAND" and fight .. BUT if the fight goes to the ground, Sambo is more than enough to win. Want to talk about a stupid rule ... pulling guard is it!
@pcjudosambo pulling guard isn't a rule, and if you want to talk about Sambo's ability in self defense, why does it not allow chokes? Not very realistic.
@RightWingCon81 pulling guard is allowed in bjj type competitions, it's not an effective technique and sambo does allow chokes, it's part of freestyle & combat sambo, which both are part of FIAS, just like Sport Sambo. Any Sambo player competes in Freestyle/Combat Sambo, which allow chokes. On top of that, almost every Sambo player that has a "Master of Sports in Sambo" knows, practices and utilizes chokes due to having experience and rank (many hold a black belt) in judo.
@pcjudosambo Um, yes, I never argued that pulling guard wasn't allowed, it's actua;;ly allowed in judo too, it's not a "rule" as you said. you're not forced to pull guard. Just like Sambo guys trow themselves in to crazy scissor leglocks jumping under a guy, that is as useless in a street fight as pulling guard is, but it's used in the sportive type of the art. Even Arlovski has said his years at Sambo has lead to his not understanding the chokes well.
@RightWingCon81 I am a judoka/sambist and I've never used pull guard and if you read IJF rules section, it clearly states that you're NOT allowed to pull guard and if you will, you will be stood back up. But you ARE allowed to go into guard position only if you failed a throw (eg sacrifice throw) or straight into arm bar but to pull guard and remain there, not allowed. Regarding Arlovsky, is a rare case where he only trained Sport Sambo and no other forms of Sambo, 90% or more train chokes, I do
@saberman41 In competition they don't do it but in training they practice it and are very good. They have halls where all Judo , Sambo and freestyle wrestlers train with eachother and improve. Russians are very competent sportists and even though their sweat is underpaid their level of fighting remains one of the highest in the world.
@RexBaselio but since they dont work the techniques in competition its usless becuase when they get to mma where bjj guys are use2 all submittions they usualy arent the best ground game fedor is the only really good one in mma and he was just tapped out with a triangle in the first round
@saberman41 They practice their chokes in combat condition so they are good. My observation is that BJJ fighters have better ground fighting but that is logical because that is their focus 100% ne waza. They only practice that. In Sambo if you don't do anything for 30 seconds on the ground they lift you up. They force the stand up more. First application for sambo is military , sport is second. That Brazilian guy made a good submission but after that he didn't want a rematch with Fedor.
@RexBaselio he already agreed to rematch with fedor hes out on an injury right now, and for life/death military theres not gonna be someone to stand you up in a fight
