  • That's an extremely altered F1 car. A very detuned/rev limited V8 , rain tires and a crap aero package

  • F1 really? Sounds and looks more like a formula Renault 2.0.

  • its not F1...

  • its not an f1 car, so i dont know why anyone would say it is (6:00 and look at that diffuser and tell me im wrong). its not 3.5 world series car either (exhausts in wrong place for start). its a promo car like they use on the roadshows. but still over 700bhp. i want a go :)

  • It's a 3.5 world series car, with a v6. The steering wheel is excactly the same as the world series car & it looks the same too. The ws cars have some 500 horsepower or so. Just ggl world series by Renault.

  • Its the V6 world series renault.... with a F1 nose front wing...Besides there is NO WAY that engine is going (or is capable) of reaching 18,000rpm . Liars

  • The last car is an F1 car......it's from their 2003 stock with a nose from circa 2005. People who thought it wasn't one clearly have no idea about the sport or it's history.

  • The steering wheel is too simple. Also everything else etc.

  • Not F1, sorry. Renault=typical French liars. Glad they are in the midst of leaving the great sport of F1.

  • My Opel Manta M400 sounds more F1 than them, tyres r wider also.

  • it looks like a gp2 car stupid renault give us the real thing

  • It dosnt sound anything like a F1 car.

  • They have probably either limited it, or told them not to give it full throttle. The guy with which the on board camera was on was going through the gears like in a normal car. If id have paid that much I would have pinned it! lol

  • Amazing!

  • Man, I bet that is fun to try.

  • Man, I can only imagine the price tag a trip like this would come out to.

  • you want to know how is to drive a F1 car ? Go drive karts, that's the closest normal people can get... would say, 6 times slower but yet very funny... if you want to become professional - openwheel - driver, you also should start at karts..

  • youre smart to know that lol hahahahhahaha

  • jesus saves

  • If you honestly can't race a formula 1 car on a ps3 how the hell are you meant to do it in real life.

  • ps3 and reality is not the same thing.. it´s alot easier to drive a real car than a virtual car (have not driven a f1 though ^^) but the way you feel the G forces in a real car is the biggest difference between virtual and reality.

  • Driving an f1 car FAST in real life is so far beyond the abilities of even most PROFESSIONAL RACING DRIVERS that we normal drivers can't even comprehend the assault on the senses that it is.

  • Watch richard hammond tryin to drive a formula 1

  • I didnt mean that F1 was easy. Just that you cant really compare a ps3 game to reality... But the feeling in a real f1 car must be better than in a ps3 game.. that is what my comment was about.. that doesnt mean that it is easier..

  • trust me my friend,i race formula atlantic car, porsche gt3 rsr an the only thing that is the same are the graphics and sound,so does that mean if i fly a 747 in a flight sim,i can fly the real thing, not even close,i welcome alot of street driving friends to the track with 20 + years of street racing, when their in the car with me ,,the look on their face reminds me of my 6 yr old's ,first ride in a go cart, along with the white knuckles, and they all say the holy shi_ when the ride is over

  • Really who for?

  • the cars i run are my private cars,,friends of mine drive for a living,my seat time is just beating the last lap time,my trucking co , pads my pocket not racing,,,sorry

  • jesus!!... this proves how many idiots exist on the planet!! the first openwheeler is a Formula Renault... but the 2nd openwheeler driven by the entrants IS indeed an F1 2003 as ecapdeville says. "those are not f1 cars"???? which "THOSE"???? do you mean... little wonder the darwin awards have such choice each year.

  • The first test was on a Formula Renault, the real thing came in a F1 R23 (2003) with V8 engine and similar wings to 2007, its was a F1 indeed.

  • The supposed F1 is just an 2001 Prost AP05...but instead of a Ferrari engine...its fitted with a V8 engine...i believe its a Judd XV 3.4 Litres one by its sound.

Arguably is not a F1 car...as it can´t fit any recent or ancient F1 regulations. Full stop.

  • Ese definitivamente no es un F1.

  • Those are NOT F1 cars!

  • It is a F1 car, it's somewhat downgraded version of R23, it definitely looks like it, apart of missing diffuser at the back and deforced engine. And notice that headrest place is there but it's missing.

  • not an f1

  • yes its not F1 car but who would be so stubid to give so expencive car for beginner?

  • it is an f1 car !! just other steering wheel and 2004 version !!!!

  • It is a formula one car!! its the 2004 car with an altered front wing and 2007 paint job.. its hardly a fucking mini now is it?!

  • +1

    this is the formula 2004

  • You are on the money!

  • Big shit

  • what a crap this is no an F1 car

  • ha ha a select few individuals, these chumps would not know the difference between F1 & formula reliant robin.

  • "Formula1... Formula1... Formula1... Formula1... Formula1". oops, that doesn't seem to be an F1 car!

  • 2nd car seems to be a renault euro seris car with the F1 cars body...

  • thats not an F1 car

  • Its a formula Renault...

  • Drug pusher, yeah dancing down the street.

Sing that sing that weet weet!

  • thats definitely not an f1 renault engine , if it is its one that raced back in the 1960s.

  • Try watching Fernando Alonso's helmet cam lap of Barcelona. The engine is like a voice in that sounds completely different to the person it's coming from as it does to the other people listening

  • Renault V6 with some dodgy bodywork on it not an F1 car im afraid.

  • Sounds like speed limit of 13000 (dropped from 19000!) which means probably around 350 HP.

  • That's not F1

  • that wasn't a f1 car! that sounded very low powered! that was ethier a gp2 car or a world series car just with f1 logos on it!!

  • I did this in 2006. The cars we trained on were Formula Renault. Then we had 2 laps in a restricted 2003 F1. Unrestricted would be uncontrollable for novices.

Most frightening thing I have ever done. Blank outs on corners and wheel spinning in 4th gear! The car only has traction at speed and the breaks only work when hot. So you HAVE to hammer them.

The hard part is forgetting everything you think you know about driving.

    I ached for three days.

  • How much did this cost and/or how were you chosen to participate? I'd do anything to get the opportunity...

  • My creative partner Andrew and I make promotional films for Renault. They flew us back down to the track that we had filmed on earlier that year as a thank you. It was at the Paul Ricard test track near Marseille, south France.

Can't be bothered to upload proof! I am simply ignoring all these haters! They really don't know what they are talking about!

  • Search for Top Gear Renault F1 :)

    watch?v=9OgleDKfx_g

That would give you a good impression of the difference between the Formula's.

  • Sorry ... I mean:

    watch?v=-vRoRz_WWto

  • Guys,

because I know someone who was there, I can give you a few details.

The first cars you drive the morning are Formulat Renault (Renault FR 2.0), it is a single seater with a 200bhp engine from a Renault Clio Sport.

The afternoon they drove a REAL formula 1. Actually these were not Renault ones, but there was an old Prost Peugeot Formula 1 and a Benetton one with a Cosworth engine, just in Renault paintings. These two ones are limited to 14000rpm so are just a bit shy on the 700bhp mark.

  • That is a Formula Renault V6. If I am not mistaken...

And NO, it is not the real deal although as in any other decent formula, these cars are pretty fast and not that easy to handle at optimum speeds aswell.

Looking forward in doing this programme!

  • Of course there not the real deal F1's. . . you think they'd trust a bunch of noobs who've never sat in a single seater with a million dollar car like the RS27?

    I think not.

  • No but they are real racing cars. They are called "Formula Renualt" and is a somewhat middle thing of Formula Ford and GP2 cars.

  • Ooh, sorry, the first cars are Formula Renualts

But the F1 looks like an old model in Renualt's new colours.

  • This car is fake formula1 car Eggy

  • Obviously. In fact, they're not even F1 cars. They're Formula Renault cars.

  • Those are the cars that the teenagers drive in the pre race races

  • That's not even an F1 car ....

  • Renault certainly are onto something hear. It would beat going to the beach that's for certain.

On a more serious not it does make people realize how hard it is to drive a F1 car. And that even the people that come last in F1 are still some of the best drivers on the planet.

  • Awesome. I would love to do that if only I had the time and money.
