Well, i am going to give you the facts..cadet,. "Out of 150 US Army Officers on this base....you are looking at the only one with actual Air combet experinece,"I have 3 109 kills, and i have had a sphitfire and a hurricane shot out from enderneathneath me. both times behind enemy lines, and both times i have escaped," Way to go LT.
I never thought I'd say this but Thank God for the "Royal Canadian Air Force", I don't think opportunity would have been granted here had that man not had the chance to earn credentials. Change would have eventually happened but who knows how long that would've been.
I never understood that scene where walter waltz over to the aircraft with people all round him under those circumstances, and he just pulls a Kurt Cobain in front of everyone.
14 years after the Little Big Horn, the 7th Cavalry was entrapped in a box canyon, and if it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry, there would have been a second massacre of the 7th Cav.
The Buffalo Soldiers, 9th Cavalry was rewarded with Presidential Parade Escort and Guard Duties for accomplishments, furthermore; the 9th Cav. received as many citations as most of the white cavs.
Read the epic novel, "Rescue at Pine Ridge", 5 stars Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
It would be in army reports not air force. USAAF wasn't created then. It was part of the army signal corps. Gen. Hap Arnold lead to it becoming it's own branch at the end of the war. Just before he died.
it's too bad for the pilot who couldn't fly anymore and killed himself. it was kind of an honor thing, like the kamikaze...who die for their honor, and their countries honor.
Alot of people in this film are composites of real people (basically 2 or three people are merged into one person) with the exception of guys like Lt. Col. Benjamin O. Davis, Jr.
I checked not sure if this event occurred either but there is a Walter H Peoples from Middlesex County,MA at the National World War 2 memorial and a Walter H Peoples listed under the USAAF Incident & Accident Personnel List 1943 at accident-reports {dot} com
@aka4god@aka4god - No Walter Peoples was one of several composite characters in the movie. Among this group they took a couple of names and created a composite character. The actual incident is not entirely true either; my father, Walter Palmer, did buzz a Tuskegee U. football game in Michigan - he was almost thrown out of the program (the comment about being "one of the few..." was accurate, but said at his court martial) but he was instead busted down and grounded for a couple of months.
@waltpalmer2 Check out the PM I sent you.My father and yours had a combat mission together on the same date (July 18th,1944).Your dad shot down a Messerschmidt Bf-109 good job!.
