  • arriba!

  • nobody could sell like Perfect. fuckin awesome

  • 4:30 Lucky Chop

  • Santana was my Spanish teacher in 7th grade....Eisenhower middle school put that work in

  • Nice match but they had a better match on SNME. I agree it would have been a better twist having Tito win it. It was so predictable Perfect won. He definitely deserved a run but it would have been cool to have Santana take it and then lose it on SNME. In his run Santana held the title a combined 14 mos....and faced a LOT of talent Orton, Orndoff, Piper, Studd, Ventura, Savage etc. He beat all these guys at some point. He is the greatest IC champ but Savage and Perfect were great too.

  • What are you gonna say? Perfect won fair and square.

  • That belt looks like the Tag Team belt.

  • @mankyller yea it is wtf?

  • Comment removed

  • @mankyller your right that is the tag title i just paused at the end and your spot on

  • haha Jesse was one hilarious mofo

the way he could often persuade you to take the side of the heels makes me think he sold Adam and Eve some dodgy apples in a previous life

  • Love how Jesse the Body sold heels - he really made a difference in getting the wrestlers over. Also - the production value - listen to that pumped in ring noise. There is no way they were booing for real that whole way through.

  • haha Tito Santana is a spanish teacher now in my school :p

  • @TheJaykiller123 yea ems in roxbury, just got him for discovery.

  • The rematch they had on SNME in July of 1990 was better,IMO

  • Comment removed

  • anyone know what video this is from? perfect was probably the best seller in all wwf history.

  • 7:13- great ring work by Mr. Perfect. You will never see anyone sell that move better than him. Truely one of the best.

  • for anyone whowants to know the first round matches were: Perfect vs Snuka, Piper vs Martel, Bravo vs Beefcake and Santana vs Akeem.

  • I remember this like it was yesterday. I was only about 13. I liked faces and didn't like heels with some exceptions on both sides. Back then I didn't like Hennig but I still knew that it would be tough for anyone to get that belt off him. If I only knew then what I know now.

  • RIP Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig

  • VENTURA WAS THE SHIT HIM AND BOBBY THE BRAIN.....LOL LOL LOL CHICO SANTANA LOL

  • Sean Mooney don't look too good lol

  • that's too bad.... Tito would have been a great IC champ... he still looked in awesome shape here

  • I remerber this!!! Look, it's the tag team belt. I guess they misplaced the intercontinental belt. No close ups,no ceremonial hoisting of belt by ref at the start of match lol

  • @commanderinchiefpat I remember this too. They didn't have the IC belt on site and had to borrow one from Demolition. Really bad planning on someone's part, or the courier didn't make it on time.

  • Mr. perfect is awesome. and sold lika moves like a real estate agent

  • Jesse mistakenly said "Tito" vs "Chico" at the start...

  • @Derby14

Jesse was intentionally being disrespectful towards him

  • @notorioussw By calling him by his real name instead of the name Jesse knows is kayfabe but insists on calling him anyway...that's good wrestling...

  • Why the crap did the Ref get mad at Tito for slapping Mr. Perfect at 2:39-2:40?

  • @Weezing336 Great question...it appeared to be a perfectly legal move.

  • @Derby14 yeah it was very legal

  • There was alot of hype around this match and this whole tournament.

  • Two great fighters, but that year was this?

  • @patroni19 This took place in 1990. After Ultimate Warrior won the WWF title @ WM 6 in the title 4 title match against Hulk Hogan, the IC Title was put up for grabs in an eight-man tournament. That's how Mr. Perfect got there.

  • Perfection

  • Great matchup here between two of the best pure Pro Wrestlers ever

  • @FRSFreeStateNow I can half agree with that. Hennig yes, Santana no.

  • This is when the Intercontinental Title(or any Secondary title in the WWE) actually meant something. Especially at this point, being the aftermath of Wrestlemania VI(Ultimate Challenge Title for Title match). I was peeved when Hennig won.

  • Absolutely right...that was the tag title he got handed.

  • showing my age here I think but I noticed the belt at the end was not the IC belt but rather one of the tag team belts

  • these old matches earn the description "wrestling". Today its only "entertainment".

  • Eh. I hated when they used the Tag Team belt as a substitute to the Intercontinental Belt. I remember when WCW told WWF to stop having Flair use the Big Gold Belt. WWF had Flair wear the WWF Tag Team Belt and then blurred it.

  • I am what I say I am! And I say I am Perfect.

  • Tito Santana loses?! What a shock! :p

  • Congratulations on winning the tag team title!

  • @whiteshark761 I've always wondered why a tag team title was used for that match and not the actual IC title.

  • Nice match... is a shame neither of them got a chance to at least compete for the heavywight title.

  • @jamcano @jamcano Both guys competed for the WWF title during their time with the company. Before Hogan took the belt off the Iron Sheik, Tito had several shots at the belt early that January (84') and Perfect, of course, ran an entire high-profile program with Hogan, with Vince even having Hennig film several vignettes with the Genius targeted specifically at the Hulkster. Both guys are WWF Hall of Famers and I would be willing to bet were very satisfied with their accomplishments with WWF.

  • tito santana is my spanish teacher -_____-

  • @doom978 lucky or if your not a wrestling fan, that sucks lol

  • @RegaLPleX08 he quite pedo

  • @doom978 lmao so dam, hes not Tito Santana the wrestler as a teacher. Tito is not even his real name. Hes himself being a teacher. Ask him about Greg Valentine and Strike Force

  • @RegaLPleX08 alright i defiantly will :D

  • at least we have youtube! so we can go back in the past!

  • Jesse Ventura is a great announcer.

His knowledge of psychology is amazing.

  • Mr. Perfect is one of the best heels AND babyfaces of all time.

    In AWA as a babyface

    and WWE as a heel.

    REAL WRESTLING.

  • @thedawn090 ur 100% correct fam

  • Don't know why Vince made Tito into El Matador, a crummy gimmick. He was fine as Tito Santana.

  • FCW had a Young Up and comer by the Name of Lupe Santiago and he would've been the Next Tito Santana before he was released.

  • These two had one of the greatest matches in WWF history along with Macho Man vs Rick Steamboat

  • He beat him with a wrestling move, not breaking one rule, McMahon!

  • Lol, Jesse Ventura was hilarious here.

  • The full story behind the fact that they had to use the Tag Title was a simple one: The belt got lost with the crew that carried all of the gear. Rumor had it was that it was stolen. The only belt they could find was a Tag Championship.

A new belt had to be made after that for Perfect.

  • @osukdawg76

Shame on McMahon's crew for dropping the ball on such a fantastic night for Mr. Perfect.

  • @osukdawg76 If that was the case, they should have just had Heenan raise Hennig's hand, then just waited until the new belt was ready for a future ep of Superstars or Challenge. Rather than Perfect being awarded a tag belt.

  • mr perfect u dont find talent like that anymore ive always as a fan respected the sport of the business i was the kid that if u told wrestling was fake i would hit u as hard as i could because these were my heroes. but as a wrestling fan today 2011 theres nothing i can do because any body who shit talks wrestling now is absolutely right . back then they took pride in there mat and mi9c skills u dont have to be a brain surgen to figure that out

  • That tripat the 5 min mark that eventual let to Tito flying out of the ring looked like a potential messup that Santana smartly corrected in mid flight.

  • wwe fan...are you kidding not muscular? Todays guys are average 185 (morrison) to 210215 miz.. these guys are both muscular 235 to 250 lbs.

  • how are these 2 underrated? Tito in his prime was a major headliner, IC and tag team title holder. He was the worker while hogan was the face. Mr Perfect was a great IC champ as well as US champ in WCW. he is also regarded as one of the best wrestlers by his peers. just because they never won the world title doesnt mean they were underrated thats just how the company worked then. anyon who agrees they were underrated is clueless

  • Tito Santana is my Spanish teacher in nj real name Merced solis

  • well that title is one of the world tag team titles. This needs to be in botchamania.

  • @bigevil66623 I often wondered that myself. If Warrior surrendered the Intercontinental title then the WWF would have it so why would Perfect be handed a tag team title? Only thing I can think of is if you held a title maybe you keep to keep the belt you wore as a trophy anyone know anything about that?

  • @tempo1889

someone just f'ed up and brought the belt to the arena.

  • Mr. Perfect could sell ANYTHING!!!!!!

  • What is with the tag team belt in the end?

  • @TheMadStork83 that was weird.

  • One of jesse v's last wwf commentating events?

  • Even though he was a heel, I bet Henning fought McMahon over the ending in wanting a clean finish gives more heat to Perfect cause he did it fair. Also makes Ventura praise him more. But I bet McMahon wanted Heenan to trip Tito or something to give Perfect the victory.

  • i wanted tito to win but then again i wanted to see brutus be ic champ

  • long live mr.p

  • Mr.Perfect owns any spic

  • Mr Perfect - My favourite wrestler, with the best finisher too.

  • i really think youtube is a great way to keep up with such great wrestler such as mr.perfect curt henning truely one of the top 10 best techs ever 6

  • Classic old school style! Todays wrestling needs to learn a fucking lesson!

  • Why was Perfect holding up a Tag belt if he had just won the IC title? The warrior was champion for a little while at that point so he should have vince the IC Title back. Even if he didn't and just sent home shouldn't Vince have manufactured another one either way for the next champ? Call me crazy though

  • @Bull1908

Ultimate Warrior had the last I-C belt, maybe they didn't want to use one of his white or blue belts and didn't have the black leather belt on them so used an old tag title belt.

  • @Lannis31 I can't find anything to substantiate this, but the word at the time is that the belt was lost. There was an unconfirmed story that Hennig had the belt prior to this match with Santana, but lost it. With no other I-C belt available at the taping, they threw in a Tag Team belt, which Hennig wore in a squash match later at that taping.

  • @bainsey89

Yeah, the WWF definitely dropped the ball on this one. It was a great match, with Hennig winning fairly in the middle of the ring and yet the whole thing was backwashed by a title belt flub. Very disappointing.

  • @bainsey89 that's exactly what happened..I was at this taping, I was only 12 at the time, but they had filmed several episodes of saturday morning Superstars of Wrestling and I recall the squash match you speak of, when Hennig wore the tag title belt

  • ah these are 2 of the greats of the late 80s/early 90s. Too bad Perfect was injured for much of the 90s he could have been one of the true legends.

  • Jesse Ventura is certainly one of wwe's best commenter!

  • @02whitmorep

I know Jesse was bias, but saying Mr. Perfect was "the favorite" against Tito Santana who was a 2 time Intercontinental champion was ridiculous.

  • Jesse is hilarious..one of the best commentator..

  • Small package. not inside cradle.

  • @Sage80 Looks like a cradle to me.

  • Could Santana's shoulders be any furhter off the mat during the three count?

  • So much good stuff in this video. I haven't been into wrestling for roughly two decades now, but I've always loved the CONCEPT of pro wrestling, especially the kind we saw in the late 80s. Screw the coffins, the half-naked women, the ladders and chainsaws. The Santana/Perfect match focused on the art that is pro wrestling. Hennig was so freakin' good at selling moves he made everyone look great.

  • @WWEFan7786 The announcer FINK has a great voice.

  • Huh...I never noticed before, but the belt Hennig holds up at the end of the match is a tag team title.

  • @Nx76 I guess when they filmed this at the time? they didn't have the IC Belt with them. so they grabed the tag belt at the last minuet!

  • Why does Perfect have the tag team belt instead of the IC belt? 9:15

  • @gtz1975 I noticed that as well. Why does he have one of the Tag Team belts instead of the Warrior's recently vacated Intercontinental belt?

  • @Holden308 I always wondered that myself for the past 20 years. I'm guessing maybe Warrior had problems going through customs with the IC belt from the Toronto Can WM6 show?

  • Is there any actual footage of the other matches in this tournament?

  • @gtz1975 rick the model vs rowdy piper, akeem vs tito, are two other ones oh and perfect vs snuka all of these are on you tube just type some key words,, if not try dailymotion

  • wrestlers today should watch this and take notes.todays wwe tna and others suck, this was when wrestling was great!!!

  • I love these old matches, they didnt need innovative back flips or goofy gimicks to put on a show, they went out there and delievered without all that junk. Curt Hennig is one of my favorite old wrestlers, and for obvious reasons! Such a great performer!

  • I dont understand how they didnt put the world title on perfect...

  • We all know it's how Jesse always referred to Santana...but this match has to be the record for the number of times Jesse says "Chico" during a single match.

  • These were the good old day when wrestling was still fun to watch.

  • Jesse Ventura is the greatest heel commentator EVER

  • @ArticulateDon Jesse Ventura was great. Bobby Heenan comes in at a CLOSE second to Ventura. He always tripped me out when he called Tito Santana "Chico Santana."

  • @mcneal78

Yh Heenan was brilliant alongside Monsoon... & although his best days are behind him now, Lawler was brilliant during the Attitude era

  • @mcneal78 i enjoyed that too, gorilla corrected him sometimes but jessie claimed he was right and gorilla was wrong, though if you watch wrestlemania tito vs executioner jessie calls him TITO

  • I meant Savage being second generation, obviously Von Erich is. But Miss Elizabeth was so integral to Macho's character, the fans hated Savage, loved Elizabeth unconditionally, and he was redeemed through her love. She allowed us to love him despite his heel status. ,they put Liz in cause she's a looker and her quiet hope mollified the fans . She retained a silent dignity even dropping her skirt at summerslam. Randy's best days were as IC champ though. Perfect is still a better worker though.

  • Great match! Mr. Perfect beat Tito Santana fair and square. He out wrestled him. Perfect!

  • Tito Santana is one of my all time favorites.

  • i really thought tito on this day was gonna be the first man(at the time)to 3peat as ic champion. i mean a month before, perfect had lost via pinfall to brutus fruitcake so i figured he was on the way down and tito was gonna have one last run. i still believe though that Randy Savage was the greatest Intercontinental Champion

  • Savage got a run with the big strap ... Mr. Perfect IS the greatest IC champ of all time , just watch him sell.

  • oh i agree he sold excellently, but savage was a fair world champion, while he was THE ic champion for 14 months-perfect however had two title reigns and both cpmbined were 13 months. not to say that just because you hold it longer makes you better, but savage defended against different ones constantly where henning faced certain ones for a program run, then another

  • You can't hold Hennig's opponents against him, he could have a great match with a broom, which is one thing I wouldn't say about Savage ( who was still a hard worker hands down). I mean: Kerry Von Erich didn't even have a foot when he fueded with Perfect. Are both 2nd generation? Savage was the bigger draw, case closed. But he NEEDED miss Elizabeth to get over with the fans face.Savage/Elizabeth might be the greatest storyline in WWWF/E history, but Curts a better technician.

  • better technical wrestler, yes. i do have to disagree with 1 point-savage could also make a great match with a worthless half-wit-aka brutus fruticake from saturday nights main event july 1989. a great match, and let's face it, he was wrestling the #1 flunky of the immoral hoax hogan.seems like von erich did little to nothing in his wwf run EXCEPT beat perfect at summerslam 90 , which was suppose to be fruitcake winning the belt. henceforth, thank goodness for kerry!

  • @BrianMilligan1 ha ha FRUITCAKE i like it good name, oh the thought have brutus winning belt instead of texas, ugh no thanks bad enough he won at wrestlemania 6

  • NOW THAT'S PERFECT

  • I remember watching this and hoping beyond hope that they would put over Tito for the win. It was pretty obvious that Mr. P was scheduled to win the title but having him face Tito did give a lot of credibility.

  • and there he is your new...... tag team champion? mr perfect!

  • @WWEFan7786

i woudn't say they were underrated. tito was a major headliner, former IC champ and tag champ. he had a great career. mr perfect was IC champ and was always considered a top wrestler. he was a huge player in WCW too, winning the US title. niether of them had a shot at the world title because that title only changed about once a year when they were in their prime. but i agree that both of them are WAY better than amost anyone around today

  • @WWEFan7786 Both very ahead of the times

  • I think now that the roster has thinned down a little bit... they need to get rid of the US Title and the World Heavyweight Title (they're too WCW) and put the IC Belt BACK ON THE MAP as the 2nd most important belt on the show.

  • absolutely perfect

  • nice match.

  • Mr. Perfect was one of the best in the business at selling moves! The way he sold the dropkick given to him by Santana at 2:54 was SWEET!

  • does anybody notice the belt? that is one of the tag team belts, not the IC belt lol

  • tito santanas my spanish teacher.........'uhhh my name is mr solisssss

  • don't think so, real wrestling fan know the truth. Never like Mr. perfect growing up because of the good guy bad guy shit off the old days. I love how in those days the IC Title mint something. Now I sit and pray for WWE to adopt a little bit off the old school and stop looking for every chance to shock us7

  • Here in Minnesota the 93x morning show has a jessie ventura spoof show called "fish police" Where the ex gov boats around the many lakes with his trusty dog Gorilla arresting fish poachers. Funny stuff!

  • Mr.Perfect has got the best skills in wrestling. He wrestles with really great moves.Awesome.

  • BlaSt911,

You are absolutely right on the money with it comes to the IC title. It has been so watered down just like every other title. Wrestling was so much more magical in its 80's thru 90's heyday. Now it's nothing more than a screwed up reality show. Also you are right about the commentary and how name calling was OK and nobody had to worry about BS political correctness. Well we'll always have the memories, right?

  • listen to all the heat curt was drawing. and where was the real IC belt because that belt he was handed was a old tag tem belt.

  • I need to know why there was no IC Belt here!!!!!!

I know they used to substitutes Flairs "Real World Championship" belt with a Tag Team Belt and blur it out on TV

  • @simonross1977 i know what you mean. it doesnt make any sense for the IC belt not to be there.

  • You wrestling fans are so gullible. This entire fight is rigged and choreographed but I must admit these guys earn their money a hard way nevertheless.

  • Thanks for revealing that info hahahahahaha.

  • no shit?? really? its scripted? thank you for pulling back the curtain and enlightening all of us with your supreme wisdom and amazing skills of deduction.

i suppose you dont watch any form of entertainment like movies or tv shows, because that would make you gullible too, because they are of course, all scripted.

you are a light of intelligence unto the world.

  • hahahahhahahah i am a big wrestling fan and i always say the exact same thing to people when they say wrestling is a fake

  • @mysticx0 lmbo!!!

  • Jesse Ventura is hilarious. Great speaker. Its no wonder he became govenor.

  • @moelicious416 being from minnesota, I can safly tell you that He was kind of a laughing stock here. I would still vote for him because of the funny shit he said at every press confrince '"Dont make me mad becuase i once hunted man!!!!"

  • @moelicious416 I wonder does he refer to all of the Hispanics of his governed state "chico"...

  • Hold up. Look at that belt. That's the old TAG TEAM title belt Perfect is holding at the end of the vid, NOT the IC belt. They messed up here! Look closely near the end of the video. It is CLEARLY not the IC belt. It's the tag team title from the 80s/90s.

  • holy crap, very good spot!! your right.

  • You know what's so great about these old days? The commentary. The banter back & forth between McMahon and Ventura, Jesse calling him "Chico" instead of "Tito" (and it NOT being considered a racial slur) the IC title actually meaning something, etc.

  • *** out of *****

About as good a free TV match as you'll see from this era.

  • Did anyone notice that wasnt the IC belt Perfect was holding?

  • it would have been cool if warrior held both titles at the same time... Perfect was a good champ also though

  • Jesse Ventura made Vince look stupid because he was a flawless commentator.

  • Seriously was the WWF that unprepared or unprofessional that they couldnt have at least one intercontinental championship standing by for this tournament?

  • Mr Perfect the first ever wrestler to win one half of the WWF Tag Titles...

  • what year it is?

  • 1990 after wrestlemania 6, remember hogan vs warrior title for title and the ic title was vacated so they had a tournament and this is the finals

  • This must of been the Body's last WWE moments as a color comentator...

  • mr perfecet is the fuckin best

  • Mr.Perfect is the best IC of the History.

The PerfectPiece, The MasterPiece Chris Masters & Joe Henning(the son of Mr.Perfect)

  • Not that he isn't deserving of that title, but the best IC champ will always be the Honky Tonk Man. Perfect is a close second, then HBK

  • Honky Wonk is a fucking faggot. He's hated by more than a few notable industry powerhouses by virtue of his bitching and juvenile (i.e. unsuccessful due to low intelligence) politicing, and most of those whom don't quality for "hate" simply "dislike" him.

Furthermore, despite protestations to the contrary Honky Wonk seriously injured Jake Roberts with the botched guitar shot. The guitar was real. Jimmy Hart acknowledged it as well.

The far, FAR superior performer lost out.

    Fuck HWM.

  • As far as the best IC champ, Honky held it a while, sure; but it was only a single run, then nothing more. Argument could be made he defended it well, but since this is sports entertainment in reality they just had no better character to give it to. Honky was a weak technician IMO, and his reign came by way of coward tactics. Unfortunately, the heel character he sold was super fucking boring. You could consider his reign the Dark Ages of IC championship reign.

  • On to more realisitic candidates:

    - Mr. Perfect is often mentioned, moreso because of his singular technical abilities and entertaining match dynamics. A worthy IC champ, but probably not the greatest.

    - If you term "greatness" by the memorable championship matches themselves, Bret Hart is impossible to ignore. His first capture from Mr. Perfect at SS'91 is still one of my favorite matches; had some amazing wrestling and ring psychology on display. He then dropped it to the Mountie...

  • under the guise of illness, but regained it at WM8 in another terrific match against Roddy Piper--perhaps equal in quality to the Perfect match. Then came SS'92: Davey Boy got one of the five biggest pops in wrestling history when 80k fans ignited Wembley Stadium in a deafening roar after he countered Hart's sunset flip. Although Hart lost the match, he was integral to selling both the blood feud leading up to SS and the babyface patching-up after the match ended. A terrific IC champ--best?

  • - The Bad Guy, Razor Ramon. Four-time IC champ (record). One-half of the first WWF match to earn "Five Stars" from Meltzer when he went toe-to-toe against HBK in the ladder match to rule them all at WM10. While none of his other IC wins or loses were nearly as spectacular as his WM10 win, he was a strong performer, but truly shined when cutting his promos. Although HBK had the "showstopping" in-ring theatrics and execution, Razor had the edgy, antihero cool down before SCSA appeared on...

  • the scene. All things considered, Razor is definitely in contention for Greatest IC Champ. Who could overshadow Scotty, then?

    - HBK. "The Main Event." I'm bored with typing now, so yeah; he won it three times, it's fucking HBK, he's cool. Probably not quite as memorable as Razor in the IC role, but still cool.

    - SCSA/The Rock. Yes, they're two of the greatest of all time. By implication it makes their IC reigns seem more impressive. SCSA beat Owen for it twice, but the...

  • character of his reigns seemed defined by his feud with Hart. Plus, it was clear SCSA was quickly destined for the WWF Championship; IC belt was a stepping stone. Rocky beat HHH when both characters were still in transformation: Duane still had his 'fro and was pushed as the supreme babyface, and HHH was doing his ho-hum "blueblood" gimmick. His second win was a joke, simply being given the title by Austin after SCSA stated his intent to chase the World Title. Two legends, but not for...

  • The way Rocky GOT the title the second time was a joke, but it WAS a good REIGN. He built himself up in that midcard role for almost a year before finally losing it to HHH in the later match in 98 (sorry to anybody I spoiled that for, in case you didnt know) and was turned into a main eventer in the next few months.

  • Santana wasn't a classic Mexican wrestler. His style was North American.

  • I thought he was Cuban or something like that? That has nothing to do with your statement but yeah...just thought I'd put it out there...

  • @Holden308 plus he didn't wear a mask. and that separates him from 99% of luchadores.
