Try reversing the pick-ups, so that the P90-side of the pick-up is facing each other, instead og the rails. That way you will get at LOT more Tele-tone and twang, when using the ralis! The P90- and humbucker-tone should remain the same.
@idolkritiq Okay, I figured that out a couple of minutes after I posted that. I guess whatever I played was kinda in that vein. Not really intentional, just playing whatever.
how come they all look somewhat different? One looks pretty good, no gaps, but the others look badly made... you'd expect better! Are they all definitely Gibson and not Epiphone also? Make your own neck / body then lol
@11thhourreprieve construction methods and dimensions changed over the years. Bad stuff. Those are all Gibson. If you check out my other videos, you see that I'm doing exactly that! (making my own).
@jsullysix yeah I've seen some, the firebird in particular. I meant for LP contour job you wanted... is something in progress there? ya got too many vids man, easy to miss stuff :P
@11thhourreprieve Not specific to a Les Paul, but the things that I don't like about the Les Paul will be incorporated into my own model (called the Sully '71). Yeah, there's a lot of videos, I need to figure out a better way to organize them. Perhaps there's a playlist function that I can find.
@11thhourreprieve Thanks! funny thing is that after I finished it, I realized that I like looking at Les Pauls more than playing them. There were some things that I wanted to change about the ergonomics of it, but I didn't trust the mortise/tenon joint. I didn't think that it'd be air tight, and the last thing that I needed to have happen was to remove too much wood from that area. That said, I've got a design that I'm working on that I think will appeal to the LP fans. So stay tuned!
@jsullysix let me guess on the ergonomics... the square corner in the back of the cutaway? Kinda rounding off the back of the neck / body to aid higher fret twiddling? Where there's a will there's a way. TBh I dun think there's any guitar with the beauty of an LP where it's lines and overall form are concerned. I love this black beast you've resurrected, sounds great and that hardware looks so right. hmm do I prefer my green flametop STd... have to say yes lol
@11thhourreprieve Yep, I was gonna totally sculpt the back of that neck/body joint out until I saw some LPs cut in half, lengthwise. There's some air in those neck pockets, and that's the last thing I'd want to uncover. I was also planning on putting some rib contours in as well, but never really got to it. I agree that the LP design is hard to beat, and I'll never say that I've beat it (heh), but the design that I've been working on would appeal to open minded LP fans out there. :)
@jsullysix I better sub so I dun miss it then lol. I don't understand why there's air in there frankly, not that I've seen, but shouldn't it be a wood on wood glue seal. no wood on wood jokes please haha. you got any vids/links showing them joins laid open?
@11thhourreprieve By all means, please subscribe! Tell a friend, too! :) If you google "Les Paul cut in half" it will come up in the image results. It's pretty ghastly, not to mention poor design. Believe me, I was good to get sculpting until I saw that pic.
@jsullysix well i understand a hell of a lot of work has gone into this guitar, and the parts etc, if it ever comes to sale i would definitely consider making an offer....
@SoulStatement Fractal AxeFx set to a Soldano, I believe. Kinda ironic, considering I was filming all of this in a room filled with Bogner, Soldano, etc.
@SoulStatement pretty sure the clean stuff was done on a Roland Jazz Chorus setting, but Pete was the one dialing in the tones so I can't say for certain. You see, I'm just the gorgeous host and can't be bothered with those sorts of details. ;) Kidding, of course, but yeah, it was all digital processing with the exception of the piezo stuff; that was just straight through his PA system into the recording module.
awsome collection of music equipment jsullysix!!!! what kind of effects do you use to get that kick ass distortion at 1:58.... i know most amps just plugged straight in don't get that kind of distortion....
@TheBGrogan This wasn't filmed at my place, this was at my friend's home in Oklahoma. I was plugged into a Fractal AxeFx and I believe that Pete had me on a Soldano SLO100 setting.
very nice and impressive guitar collection ! I can't stop imagining myself playing all the songs I know to the appropriate guitar :O pretty nice Les Paul renovation! thanks for sharing !!!
@xxfroobxx Thanks for the kind words, but as described in part 1 of the video, this was not shot in my house, and all that gear is definitely not mine. It's guitar heaven, though!
Man, what a versatile Guitar You created out of a wreck! I love your laid back style, yet I know what You do isn't as easy as you make it look! Awesome job!
@sean1985n4 You mean rout a P90 cavity to fit a humbucker? Yeah, but you'd need a slightly oversized pickup ring, or dowels in each corner for the mounting screws.
@sean1985n4 A dowel is a wooden rod. You can cut them to size and glue them in the corners to give the pickup screws something to screw into. Not sure what someone would charge for it, I'd figure somewhere around 80 bucks.
@SoulStatement since it's a stereo jack, you put the cord in until it stops at the first point. That's the piezo part. putting the cord in all the way will give you the magnetic pickups. there's a way to blend them all together without getting cord crazy, but i didn't want to drill another hole to allow for that control.
@jsullysix does the piezo play through the eletric pickups or does it pick up the string voice itself? but that is one great sounding guitar. I want one
@guitarheo3 y'know, I was thinking about that and had some buyers remorse until I plugged it in. I love super gain and that sort of thing, and I'd say that this cuts it pretty well! I'd almost be afraid to hear the hotter version! :)

Nice to see someone demoing a guitar without noodling/showing off their chops. You can actually hear the tone of the pickups.

@MrGamingGuitarist That was Pete's handiwork. His mixer also records. I then had the audio of all of what I played, so I did my best to sync it up.
