  • Interesting video, Hi I am running my heating on oil with a woodburner in the lounge and thinking about upgrading/changing my heating system, would this heat pump be any good in temperatures below freezing? I heard something that heat pumps only work well in temperatures above freezing.

  • There is less to gain in running a heat pump when temperatures fall to freezing but you can still get a COP of 2 if you can use low temperature outputs such as underfloor heating in a slab. the best idea is to grab heat during the day and store it in a concrete floor and let this emit the heat during the evening. The more insulation you put in the building the better it will work.

  • Thanks for your comments and you make a good point it would be better if the tappings were bigger and I mentioned it to the manufacturers because 15mm seems small. I originally piped it up in rigid copper but there was noise transmission. The flexis are the shortest I could find and the bore is more than 10mm. There is a good flow rate through the system and the heat pump works well. I am happy for anyone to come and see it working.

  • An ASHP relies on a good flow of water, any restrictions reduce it's efficiency. It's pointless him speaking about plumbing it in 22mm when the two flexibles he puts on the pump itself are quite obviously just standard bath or sink connectors which have an internal diameter of 10mm. I got a couple of 22mm full bore flexibles for my ASHP and they look huge compared with the ones fitted here. No point in using 22mm copper and then restricting it to 10mm as it leaves and enters the ASHP.

  • I found this a very informative video and bought an Activair soon after.

I was a bit sceptical at first because of the low price for the unit but I have been pleasantly surprised by the performance and I am already starting to see a saving on my heating bills.
