  • Mat yup I'm buyin it nom

  • Thumbs up if you only came here to see mat! :D

  • I had no idea Joe Meek was a small Irishman with a squeaky voice....

  • Only bought this film because of Con O'Neill but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • I am not kind of those who get overly excited about everything they barely see, but that movie was particulary good. Though some things appeared cliched, such as childhood/madness sequences and the ending pictures, the characters were very well adapted, historical accuracies were 100% pure, and the humour was fun. And its rare people make movie about such themes, but they should have.

  • So it looks like the song is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

  • Ok what do I have to do to get a USA watchable copy of this? Don't I have a certain # of Euro plays on my Macbook?

  • tell me that was not a pentagram that Joe Meek was dancing in the middle of ? I still hope to see this movie one day.

  • In this film Heinz drives a smallish feminine red Ford Consul Capri Coupe. In reality he drove a big masculine blue Ford Zephyr 6 estate. It's a good film but it plays fast and loose with a lot of the facts and the detail. On a Tornados website there is a newspaper cutting showing the Zephyr after a crash. One of my friends was on the tour featured in the film- he remembers Heinz's Zephyr and said they put a fish on the engine of the band's van that smelled disgusting.

  • @NickRatnieks yeah there is a few bits of Poetic licence written into the story. Such as the John Peel writing for Melody maker. I dont think so . As im sure John was either still at Boarding school. Or was then in America. also he would have still gone under his old name of John Ravenscroft. And peel never wrote for the M.M

  • @skawashers- funnily I watched the film again only last night. I wrote somewhere that Alan Caddy played a Gibson 335- and not a Hofner- in the film it's a Burns. One of my best friends played that Gibson of Alan's and he also played the Gibson 175 that Joe Moretti played the solo on in Shaking All Over ( he used a cigarette lighter as a slide) which Alan must have played on as well- Johnny Kidd and the Pirates. Moretti brought the guitar into Sound City in Rupert St where my friend worked.

  • @NickRatnieks

I to watched the film again last night . As i brought it for my Girlfriends Birthday. If you dont know anything about Meek and his work . Telstar isnt the place to Start. The whole Heinz & Joe Fictitious Love affair, Angered Heinz Ex wife. And i cant blame her getting damn angry at nick moran. And alot of main song writers for Joe was missing from the film. As it wasn't all Geoffs work.. Not a good film

  • @skawashers The funny thing is on the TV interview the guy who plays Chas Hodges said the film was so true to the real story. Like any film it has to condense things and get the drama going but this film as you write really does take a few liberties. In terms of accuracy so much was wrong for no reason- the hearse was a Daimler DS420- the first one was made in 1968- Screaming Lord Sutch had a very old hearse at the time 91963)- not a brand new one- or one yet to be made!

  • @NickRatnieks But then again its a Bio picture film. And not one Bio Picture is any good. Every one ive ever seen has been dreadful. betty page, Jerry lee lewis, The Doors, 3 stooges, Numerous Charles manson Bio pics., Im just keeping my fingers crossed that the Rumors of a Jimi Hendrix Bio pic is just a Myth . As my knowledge of that guys life . i will just sitting in the dark picking great big holes in the seat and the film .

  • @skawashers You are right- Walk The Line- Johnny Cash- I don't pretend to know that much about him but that movie was just full of nonsense- the funny thing was that his life was full of very interesting facets- nothing needed to be made up or messed with- but it was utterly compromised. It kicked off in Germany circa 1953 with Fender guitars in a shop! You couldn't buy Fender in London until about 1960- Cliff Richard ordered that first British owned Strat direct from the USA!

  • @NickRatnieks i take it you know a thing or two about Guitars. and can pick holes in most films that have a band and can work out the dates Circa to when the film is meant to happen...

One thing i would like to know. Was the Stage play of Telstar W hen it was in London. The same as the film. Or was the whole thing changed and new scripts written.

  • @skawashers . I never saw the play although a friend id. That BBC interview mentioned that the play and the film are both the work of Nick Moran. I imagine the film would have many more facets than the play although the central story would be the same- I know my friend said that there was the Gay romance in the play-Meek & Heinz which is disputed. I wish I could get a job sorting out film detail- that current BBC series"The Hour" set in 1956 is full of stupid mistakes that should not be there!

  • Is this film available in US Region 1 format? Amazon has only the European PAL version.

  • It was a half decent and mildly entertaining film, no more no less. What's the point in coming on here and giving it fucking this and shite that. Grow up.

  • Not many people from Newent have had a film made about them, not perfect film , but best you have at the moment, PalmDoor Films will release a documentary about Joe Meek very soon.

  • was an extra in this film, loved dancing 60's style! :D

  • wonder how much Spacey got for this film.

  • This movie was fucking stupid. That guy doesn't look anything like Joe Meek. He looks like a fucking clown. Joe Meek was actually kind of handsome. This movie is going to flop hard in the long run. It won't even have a cult following ten years from now - that's how bad it is.

  • fuck off, this film is amazing an Con is now one of my fav British actors thanks to this film, so do one.

  • @semuk you are joking?...this is quite probably he worst film I've ever had the misfortune to sit through in my entire life. Atrocious acting, directing and no comprehensible script... although they had a fascinating story to work with. Utterly pointless venture. Fail on every single level. Shite.

  • Shame about the rubbish singer over the credits

  • this was actully pretty good :)

  • Im going to see it on Warsaw Film Festival - cant wait! :)

  • if your new 2 joe meek by the albums joe meek the alchemist of pop 2 cd set from amazon then move onto the box set the genius of joe meek the rgm legacy 4 cd box set the joe meeks girls amazing stuff the box set is for collectors mainly but alot of ges there 2!!!!!!!!

  • this film is amazing i have the dvd love it joe meek R.I.P

  • What Song Is This?

  • crawdaddy simone by the syndicats

  • i didnt think clem cattini was the drummer in the backing band that included richie blackmore and chas,i thought it was mick underwood and they were called the outlaws

  • well i think the film is fantastic as to the few incorrect things listed below, im suprised no ones mentioned that the " oh boy" show ( heinz sings just like eddie) had finished back 1959, as for heinz being " poof" cant say but i had few so called str8 guys who still claim to be str8 lol if someone had offered me all this fame ,wealth etc id been temptered and back then it was illegal so you wouldnt have openly shouted it out, get married and live a lie...

  • @joemeek304 Hey how you doing John Yes your very right about Heinz

DISAPPOINTING Biopic of Joe Meek, most off the film is historically inaccurate...

Most of the film is about the relationship between Joe Meek and Heniz..Heinz is portraid as being a poof,he was not, even his wife Della Burke and his son Simon Burt have spoke out about there discuss and anger about this...see the link on my channel and a fall list off all the Historical in accurates...

  • ok im sorry to anyone i may affend with the poofs comments but i know for sure heinz was no poof as i know his wife and his drummer from the saints as they were back in the 60s

  • saw it last night, had to travel 25 miles to see it :-/... was well worth it tho =]

  • 0:23 Justin Hawkins from The Darkness

  • parts of the film are factually incorrect

why was John peel in the film

John Peel didnt even work for the NME or any Music publication

At the time of Joe Meek he would have been doing his national Service then after would have been in America

Also at the time of Meek, John Peel was still using his name John Ravenscroft

  • John Peel wasn't in the film or did i miss it?

  • I think you find that whn Meek was in a studio maybe a radio studio, behind the glass was a couple of reporters, one introducing himself as John Peel and then giving the publication he worked for. So it is factually incorrect but dropping in names to boost the story etc But Peel would have either been still at school or national service or America. so its a bio pic But not to the letter

  • Find it in a cinema and travel to the cinema to see this film!If it is the last thing you do go and see it it is absolutely amazing!I was lucky and only had to travel 30 miles to a cinema in manchester that was showing it and there were only 7 other people in there with me.I guess the vast majority of sheeple were too busy watching fucking night in the museum 2 or something equally as brain numbing.

Telstar is a quality film.Honestly travel if you need to but go and see this.Peace,

  • I agree, one hell of a good film! The cinema was half empty where I saw it too! Wtf?

  • @arpquadra you are joking obviously! I almost believed you for a second!

  • I hope Glenda Collins is in this too. When will this be released in the States?

  • Comment removed

  • Its not available for download yet,as far as i know its not coming out till october

  • Does anyone know when this film will be shown in Canada?

  • Where the hell can i watch this film, I wanna see Carl Barat

  • I also saw this film. Well worth seeing, so go now!!!!!!!!

  • Saw this film last night and its f#ckin awesome!!....and the cast were brilliant!, good luck With "The Kid" Nick!!...had an extra part in this one!

  • can't bloody wait!

  • Brilliant film & great cast, particularly O' Neill. Cameos from Clem Cattini & Chas Hodges are a neat touch.

  • who did cattini play? i noticed hodges.

  • very discriptive ad

  • Saw it last night at an advance screening. At turns v funny and v dark. But essential viewing for musos, and great nostalgia for everyone who remembers the 60s. Who the hell were Heinz and the Saints? And where did Chas from Chas n Dave start out? Find out here... Plus great cameos from Jimmy Carr and Justin Hawkins!

  • justin hawkins and kevin spacey both in this movie. only reason i've heard of this

  • I can't wait to see this film as a friend of mine, John Repsch, wrote an excellent biography - The Legendary Joe Meek: The Telstar Man. There was talk of a film ages ago, so I don't know if John's book was used for this movie. It's well worth a read!

  • Carl Barat and James Corden in one film-I'm going...

  • People here need to realise that you shouldn't stop listening to music after a certain period of time.Ignore the radio which spews forth rubbish from America and seek out the bands of today with the spirit of times gone past. There are some bands that you would think are from the 60's.Plus,there is a huge amount of bands around that sight 60's garage as a great influence.Never turn your back on new music.

  • telstar the first british number 1 in america.

  • my god i was an extra in this iv been waiting so long for it to come out, it was made liake 2 years ago, so glad its hitting cinemas though :)

  • Will definitely make time to watch it;Music featured;CRAWDADDY SIMONE by THE SYNDICATS,with that truly extraordinary guitar solo by Ray Fenwick.Have spoke to Ray a few times and he's a really nice bloke.Hope CRAWDADDY may get the credit it deserves with it's inclusion in this film.

  • I hope they make a movie of his son (Matthew Bellamy) +D

  • they wont because nick moran has spent the last 7 years researching the life of joe meek and what joe achieved, and nick is very passionate about joes life, i cant see it happening, btw whos matthew bellamy apart from being the son of a tornado

  • ARE YOU MAD!!! are u insane>>>????

Matthew bellamy the leadsinger of the Brilliant band MUSE!!

  • ah ok, i dont listen to a lot of music thats out now, iv grown up listening to 60s and 70s music, but muse are cool.

  • Is there a clip of The Konrads in this?

  • glad they didn't

  • just thought people would make more fuss about all this stuff with Matt's dad and telstar song....koc

  • prea tare :))

  • one of the guitarists of telstar is actually matthew bellamy's dad right?wow...if he is, then music and playing the guitar runs in the family.^^

  • Yes, George Bellamy...

But Telstar is the song, not the band. The band is The Tornados.

  • @mau345 3 of the songs used in that film were written and performed by my late father! Rodney Wiliam Freeman of rod and the blue men! I'm 34 now and he died when i was just 7. Joe meek used to ask my dad to stay behind! Guess he fancied him a bit!!!

  • @ashbash6969 I have that album! Im currently writing a case study on Joe meek at uni right now :O

  • Great cast, Cant wait to go see this just 3 more weeks :)

  • More 15yr olds such as myself should be taught about the legend that was Joe Meek.

  • Agreed. And more 15 year olds outside the UK like me, should know, at least, who that genius was.

It seems a great movie, I wish I could watch it in my country.

  • Pirate it.

  • Thanks to Nick Moran and crew, this is a great tribute and reminder on the utter genius and struggles of Joe Meek and we all sincerely look forward to seeing this unique slice of pioneering british music history revived in this homegrown film...rock n roll! 10/10 from us just for underlying the importance of this groundbreaking period and the great Joe Meek.

  • Waiting to see this.

  • I never thought I'd hear Crawdaddy Simone in a film trailer! Does anyone know if the Syndicats are represented in the film?

  • 0:30 justin hawkins hes awesome

  • I'm in this film as a shop assistant!!!

  • woop!!!

    bout bloody time lol

saw the stage sgow and have waited agess for this to be released!!!!

    roll on june!! :D

love joe meek and stuf he produced...n im only 19 lol

  • This film is going to be shown nationwide from June 19th -AT LAST! If it is as good as the play then it will have been worth the wait!

  • what's the song in this trailer??

  • The song is one of the best garage tracks of all time.

    "Crawdaddy Simone" by The Syndicats

  • thanks so much))

the song is awsome. just loveit!!

  • You mean Freakbeat ;)

  • Ummm,No.

  • Maybe you don't mean it, but it's not garage rock.

  • I can see where this is going already.

  • I think i'm gonna see it. Just for the pleasure of admiring Carl Barât as Gene Vincent.

  • When is it being released on DVD. My most eagerly awaited film for years, can't wait to see it

  • This is going to my film of the year - trailer looked good

  • just like everyone else i am thinking the same thing when the hell is this movie going to be released, last time i heard it had no distributer, its in the can edited and everything, if george harrison was about he would do it, its a low budget as far as £6million or so would stretch, maybe april 5th, Joe Meeks 80th birthday would be an obvious date.

This could do for RGM what brad pitt did for Nick Drake, a rebirth of a great british talent.

  • have you read the book? or bought the cd's?

  • I've read the John Repsch book, if that's what you mean, but rarely subject myself to the bridled sonic underwhelment of CD's. Why do you ask?

  • just from ya comment it looks poxy wasnt sure if you ment as in general film way i.e shite or the story its based on no offence intended with the comment

  • No offence taken. I think doing cellulloid justice to a story like this a real tall order and I don't hold out much hope for it, frankly, but as I said, I'm prepared to give it a chance.

By the way, nice channel, John.

  • well i guess it be bit over the top / dramatised but as im a massive meek fan im drawn to it i just need a phil spector film and i be in heaven... thou concerned as both my fav producers were crazy and used guns resulting in deaths lol best keep taking me tablets haha

thanks for nice channel comment not sure what u mean but guessing me video bits on here, :-)

  • I think: rock bio-pics are invariably disappointing, 'cause it's impossible to replicate the personal charisma of the artist, which is the main thing you want to see in the film. The best you can do is stick a pair of Buddy Holly specs on them or whatever and hope for the best.

Spector and Meek are both typical promethean sonic adventurer types, they usually go bonkers or die young. Hendrix, Barrett, Wilson etc.

Re: your channel, the b.vocals only version of River Deep on there = Mind-Blowing.

  • how long we meek fans gonna have to wait for this to hit uk screens or dvd im impatent lol

  • I only plan on watching it for Carl Barat. <3

  • I think that's why 90% of people, including myself, plan on watchin this film

  • I hope that this movie will introduce a few of the younger generation to the semi neglected genre of rock instrumentals. The rock instro was very much in vogue in the early sixties before the Beatles changed everything and it has never properly been revived since. Apparently some radio stations don't play them because they assume that no-one is interested!

  • im of th eyounger generation and would like to say iv grown up listening to music from the late 50s to the 80s i dont actually know many bands that our out now to be honest so as an extra in this film i loved it.

  • God, I can't wait for this film to come out - thanks for putting the trailer up. :)

Is it getting general release in the UK, do we know?

  • is the song "i hear a new world" in this film?

  • Films actually suprisingly good. i wasnt expecting to like because i had never herd of joe meek but it was really good.

  • Yes, thanks for sharing. Looks brilliant.

  • Thanks for sharing !

  • thanks for reposting this. :) any news yet on the u.s. release date?
