  • 00:20 i met him in a shopping mall his father was known as mr. nice guy he would give you the shirt off his back when an engineer at the stations car broke down he said you can borrow my car you can sleep in my apartment what ever you want

  • 00:04 BARBARA WALTERS [ she didnt like wa wa] was the reason why grimsby was fired becauase it wasnt the huntley brinkley report anymore with a woman anchorman on the national news which was what the new york news was imitating

  • So good that this is on YT! Hey- does ANYone who lived in the NY tri-state area in the 70s recall a tv commercial (forgot the product), where a guy leans over a sleeping guy named Stanley? He says- "Stanley...Staaaanley...GET OUTTA BED!!"

    What WAS that??!

  • grimsby was a funny, sad faced maniac. i believe he was caught cursing on air once or twice. "precursor" to sue simmons, who was funny as hell i thought, in her famous verbal bloop.

  • @brainsareus he called ursulla andress ursella undress on mike grimsby was given up for adoption he hunted for his mother as many orphans do and he finally found her don pardo was the annoncer on live at 5 with sue simmons when belushi died he was interviewed because he as the announcer on saturday night live he said belushi never did anything wrong on or off the set but a director at nBC said they used to take the mirrors off the wall to cut the cocain it would take hours to get

  • @spacepatrolman him out of the dressing room

  • Larry Kane came to WABC in 1977 after a few years at WPVI in Philadelphia, and when he left in 1978, I believe he was replaced by Ernie Anastos.

  • this was my favorite News show back then

  • Anyone have a clip of John Johnson reporting the death of Phyllis Hyman?

  • Channel 7. The only news channel my family would watch.

  • Roger Grimsby was awesome, he never did crack much of a smile but I remember when he commented at the end of a news cast , that he came back from doing a story and security asked where he came back from. he said Etheopia and the guard replied "smart ass"

  • Does Anybody have any clips of Roger Grimbsy doing KGO-TV news scene with Bob Young from 1965-1968 before ABC Moved him to NY to do WABC Eyewitness News with Bill Beutel. I always wanted to See Grimsby as the Bay Area Anchor until ABC put Jerry Jensen and VanAmburg to take Grimsby's San Francisco desk.

  • Larry Kane would've been a great permanent fixture in NYC. But things happen for a reason, he is better known in Philly.

  • RPN-9 used the Cool Hand Luke: The Tar Sequence theme music for "NewsWatch" in 1969-1993, succeeded the News Series 2000 theme music for NewsWatch in 1993.

  • Roger Grimsby along with other New York News Anchors made cameos appearance for the 1985 movie Turk 182.

  • @DC322 : Grimsby also popped up in a couple of my favorite flicks: Woody Allen's BANANAS from 1971 and in GHOSTBUSTERS from 1984. He was like the hardboiled newsman from Central Casting except he really was a newsman.

  • Roger Grimsby was the most aptly named newscaster who ever lived. The man almost never cracked a smile. And I also liked John Johnson, or as he pronounced it, "Jawn Jawnson."

  • Behind the scenes, to poke fun on Roger Grimsby and Chevy Chase, John would say, I'm Jawn Jawnson and you're not!"

  • If you knew Grimsby, you'd have found him to be one of the funniest people you knew. And yes, he did it without smiling!

  • Larry King? I don't recall him being an anchor on the news in NYC!

  • That's because he wasn't.

Larry Kane was what was said.

  • Nice hair for 70's

  • Paul Newman's theme and his life will be missed!

  • ITS RON BURGANDY!

  • Wow... Haven't heard that closing theme in maybe 15 years!!!

  • Closest thing to that would be NewsSeries 2000 from a 1993 clip via KABC in Los Angeles.

  • More specifically, "KABC 1993 Eyewitness News AM Open."

  • Once I was sitting in the Prince Street Bar when all of a sudden in the back door leaps a SWAT team with flac Jackets machine guns and JON JOHNSON holding up the rear. They went up that elevator, I waited, but never saw them return.

  • That sound was an ending of a Joel Siegel film package.

  • Ah, makes sense.

  • What's that noise in the background?!

  • Must be the CHL Theme

  • I think they meant the gunshot sound prior to Mr. Grimsby delivering his famous sign-off.
