Gearwire have a habit of hiring the stupidest individuals in the known universe to destroy any desire for any product they get their ignorant hands on.
hey could you do a longer test session where you compare the different settings [like AGC etc] and with the wind covers on / off? that would be extra cool..
That was a complete waste of everybody's time. If you haven't finished it yet don't bother watching the rest, its completely irrelevant. There's nothing in there that would reliably inform my decision to buy anything, besides possibly a bad journalism filter for my internet....
Hi there, I want to record heavy metal concerts with Sony PCM-D50. Can you recommend it because I filmed with a camcorder Sony HDR SR10 and the sound was really bad. Thanks already.
Boy that shootout was pretty much worthless. You need to turn them all on and record the same thing at the same time, with the recorders in as close to the same place as possible. Then compare the recordings. Recording wind does nothing to test a device. You maybe could have used the wind muff on the D50. People are looking for record quality. Put them in a studio with a cymbal, guitar, piano, band -then A-B-C the recordings. The wind and noise variables only defeat the test.
ah...gearwire...i didn´t realize. again and again i get to see your "tests" when i´m interested in products. and again and again i ve got the feeling you´ve got really no idea
how to use all that stuff. you should do your homework first before explaining equipment. you just behave like a beginner, whatever you touch !!!
the marantz PMD620 doe not have phantom power like the other ones. It has power for condensor microphones who themselves run on batteries. so...basically poitnless.
Yeah?? whys he not using the wind cover??? ive heard the unit with different settings with cover on! and it sounds great! this review makes it look bad!!
OlviMasta77 you can read all that in many places, but hearing the thing is more difficult to find. BTW all reviews say that using windshield in the field is MANDATORY for the PCM. gotta agree after the failure i just saw.
I this review is like the other gearwire video reviews I encountered last year. They dont really test drive it, and just ramble about some thing, their mistake amongst others. I want to HEAR the difference, and know know what options exist and get some samples. This review didn't give much.
Thanks for doing this guys! Appreciate it!

Check out the ultra-effective WindJacket for hand-held recorders like the Zoom H2 and others. Available from TheWindCutter website.

so i guess the much cheaper zoom is much better than the others, but for future podcasters i would have liked to see recording done in a quiet room

I've started a user group for owners of the D-50 and the d-1. Go to w3dotningdotcom and search for pcm-d50 or pcm-d1.
It's free!

The latency in the PMD620 is solved in version 2.04.

if it is so windy, why doesn't he use the mic-cover that follows with the H2? and then raise the gain so he can actually hear something.
