Backbone and Digital Eclipse are the same company. Or at least part of the same company. The XBLA Genesis ports even have a Digital Eclipse logo below Backbone's.
Also, FF: Double Impact is on PS3 too, but it's got some rather nasty DRM: you always have to be connected to the Internet to play it. Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 on PS3 also has that.
Anyway, as for the episode, it was really good. And I didn't think there would be a Shite of the Show on this one.
So, Backbone and Digital Eclipse are the same company? That explains why they both make nothing but crap.
Good old DRM, always there to make life harder for you. I'm so glad the Xbox360 does have much DRM. In fact none of the 360 aracde titles have it as far as I know.
@Yakumo1975 Yeah, I don't know why more recently they started to give less of a crap about good emulation. The XBLA version of Comix Zone has some awful slowdown. Back when they first started out and up until the mid-2000's they used to make some pretty good stuff. Their Midway, Atari and Capcom compilations are still great, and back in the day they made some emulations of games like Defender and Spy Hunter on Midway's site.
Some former members founded another company a few years ago (Code Mystics) and so far they've done some DS/DSiWare and iOS stuff. Judging by two DS Atari compilations and a port of Dragon's Lair on the same system, they're doing it pretty well.
As for DRM, it's great that there's none of that on the 360. Still, what Capcom did was a little douchey. Ubisoft tried to do that on the PC and failed.
Thanks. I was wondering if covering retro games for a modern cosole would go down well but it seems that people like it. Next show will be back to using classic consoles and the great X6800 computer from Sharp.
I did have one many years ago but I had to sell it. My friend still owns one. Basically, a few weeks ago I took my laptop around to his place and videoed many games which I'll be adding to the show throughout the series. The X6800 is an amazing machine and at the time blew away EVERY console and home computer out there when it came to arcade conversions.
The second Dreamcast Death Crimson game (Death Crimson OX) is actually not that bad. The first DC game is crap and the Saturn one, well. that it total wank. I have featured it on Retro Core in the past though. Maybe it's time to brink it back?
It seems Sega finally turned around once again. Daytona USA finally got an arcade-perfect conversion on the XBLA and PSN. Now if only they ported other classics like Sega Rally Championship, Virtua Fighter 2, Scud Race, and Daytona USA 2.
It's unfortunate that the Japanese intro and ending themes were replaced by instrumental versions; not only because of licensing issues but Casey Rankin (who wrote the lyrics to both songs) passed away in 2009.
Ah, that would explain why the vocal tracks are missing. I wonder if it's possible to inject the original music tracks in to the game file like you can do with Dreamcast ADX files?

@Yakumo1975 Would you happen to OWN an X68000? I've never seen video of one by someone who could speak English that could show it off.

@Yakumo1975 Well, if you ever have the time to film the system itself for a hardware segment, I'd really appreciate seeing it.

Nice video ! I wish that Sega will release soon Daytona USA 2 and Scud Race on the xbox live and PSN...

@ixindamix
Oh man, Scud Racer is a game that NEEDS to be ported to XBOX Live. It's a no brainer but it may not happen. At least we got Daytona.
Yakumo1975 2 months ago
@Yakumo1975
If enough people buy Daytona they might. If for no other reason it's that SEGA might run out of games to reissue soon.

Speaking of shitty games, will Death Crimson join that section too? I just can't believe that "game" existed.

Plenty of nice games you showed here.
I have Space Channel 5 on the DC but I have no idea how to play it.

@AdyShearer
it's really quite simple, just repeat the rhythm that the challenger does.
Yakumo1975 2 months ago
@Yakumo1975 I tried to do that but I failed.
