I believe Coulton said on his website in response to this video that he gave spike permission for the video without thinking, not knowing there would be advertisements. This of course was a problem because the pictures were under a noncommercial creative commons license as well as the song, and neither JoCo or any of the Flickr uploaders got any money (as far as I know).
