Many mediums of media attempt to be "deep." Babylon Five was deep in it's worst episodes (TKO being the arguably worst, yet still with a deepness of concept which most media could never hope to acheive); and mostly the depth acheived was by keen observation of everyday activities as much as of galaxy-shaking events. Straczynski has not acheived the same level in his later works, but that is unimportant. That he acheived once is enough.
This series was WAY BETTER than anything we have in the science fiction / fantasy genre currently. Even RDM's revised Battlestar Galactica wasn't as good in character & plot development as Babylon 5, even though ** IT ** was better than most of the series out there currently.
