hopefully you can answer me ASAP bud!! Tomorrow I might be getting my new ludwig 8x14, but the Jim Riley edition. Pretty much is the same identical drum right, well obviously Riley's has some graphics, but it should give me the same sound right. Please buddy answer me as soon as you can. Before I get my new snare. By the way AWESOME sound, and great drumming technique of you.
@99saleen87 Yeah man Should sound relevantly alike depending on what heads you use I have the same snare and use Remo Controlled sound on the batter side, and remo hazy ambassador on the snare side, Either way you wont be disappointed.
Nice smooth playing, thats a sick snare, this video is why I will be adding it to my collection as soon as it comes in and I already have a Evans st dry head I will try out on it. thanks so much for sharing!
After having this for the past few months, I can safely say it's an incredible drum! Brilliant to record with, although I couldn't get anywhere near as good a sound as here with the mics at my disposal. Live though, it's ridiculous. Miked up professionally and through a PA it absolutely destroys the room. This was louder BEFORE the mics went on than the snares other bands were using when they were miked!
Just bought one man. Your video helped me make the choice. Was wondering if you could tell us what your mic setup is ? Are they 57's ? What else do you have ? Thanks again for the help. Legend.
Sorry I have not had much of a chance to reply to all the great comments on all of my videos. I'm currently using SN57's on my snare and toms, I use an AKG D112 on the kick and Sterling Audio ST31's (which are made by Groove Tube) for the overheads, I also use a SM7B as a mono room mic and sometimes I mic the bottom of the snare with an Audix F15. Sorry about all the reverb!!!! I like to use a lot of verb on drums sometimes with some of the bands and songs that I engineer. This is wet though!
Hey, would it maybe be possible for you to do a video of your mic positions and mixer levels and your settings? I really like the sound you get out of your kit in this video, but I don't have much recording experience.
@Zachariasfisken I just got one of these as a Christmas gift (well, halves on price). Just in the shop's drum room it sounded incredible, unbelievably explosive with a ton of fat body, and yet sensitive enough for amazing ghost notes and buzz rolls... I never thought a 14x8 could be versatile, but this baby does it ALL. I found it to actually be more sensitive under the stick and better for more styles than the 6.5"!
@Mp5Drummer Congrats mate on your snare! Sadly the 8” isn’t sold in my country so I can’t try it out for myself so I’ll probably go for the 6.5” if I like it (will try it out in person in this week). But if I like the 6.5” but feel I need more body out of it I’ll maybe buy the 8” online. We’ll see…
I watched some of your videos, nice playing. Looking forward to some new videos where you bash your black magic snare! To bad you don’t have any good drum mics. But I understand your priorities.
Hey Aaron. That snare sounds amazing mate. I was wondering if you could tell me what eq and compression you are using. Also what DAW or recorder you are using.
I would love to pull a snare sound like that. Thanks.
Theres is TONS of reverb on your kit. I want to hear just the raw audio. Just a simply placed mic at each drum so we get the sound of each drum, not reverb.
did you mix this at all? i'm really looking into this exact snare, could you maybe make a short test video for it? i'd love to see its versatility but I don't see any other videos for this size!
Dude that snare made me Jizz! What a big huge fat snappy sound. I watched many of your other videos and it's nice to find a drummer with actual soul when they play.
@AaronDrums1 Would you say that this snare is sensitive for its size? I mean, are ghost notes picked up fairly well by the snares, or do lighter hits sound like all head and no snares? I ask because my main snare just broke (lug casing snapped off) and I am looking into buying this snare drum.
lot of reverb, but im not complaining. my fav snare ever

Would you consider this as a versatile snare? I'm planning on buying one but can't decide weather I should choose the 6.5 or the 8.
I assume the 6.5 is more versital but good do I love the sound of the 8.
If only one could buy two...
