  • Holy shit, without straps? This guy could crush rocks with his hands!

  • NANDROLONIII

  • @hampuusi if you cant spell it, dont say it

  • i read his best PR deadlift was like 402.5kg...crazyy and he only weighs like 265lbs

  • German merc from Kingdom of Heaven

    so BadASS

  • jouko is my favourite of all the strongmen there have been because he is the smallest of the champions, although he was big 6'1 and around 280lbs, compared to the 360pound+ monsters he was very small yet he still beat them and won worlds strongest man twice. i salute you jouko.

  • one...tough...motherfucker.

  • This man is a legend

  • Wow, bleeding out of your nose? That doesn't seem healthy man...

  • Hardcore

  • no ahola isnt big at all compare to other strongmen or what but still hes great

  • @masterofumpalumpa I think at 6ft 1 and carrying that kinda muscle mass the guy can clearly be described as 'big'.

  • skäms för att vara svensk när jag ser såna här sköna finnar. han har gett mig motivation som fan! inget mer pass utan näsblod!:D

  • F this and F that.

Sinun on toisaalta se suomalaisille, ne ovat luonnollinen vahva mies luokka

  • i think all the negative comments ppl post in strongman vids are just jealous, but this is just my opinion

  • -When your nose bleeds we know you are on high doses of Deca .

  • @indieKook what is deca? what does it do?

  • @hagenhammer deca= deca durabolin, its an anabolic steroid which gives you plenty of unhuman strength and muscle mass after using-cycling it with other anabolic drugs for a couple of months.

  • I know of guys not on steroids bigger then him, but this man is a sampson.

  • @andrebishop22 honestly; roids or not, 360 kg is still 360 kg...

  • I bet that all strong muscleman have a small penis...

  • @jupetzku why? steroids only shrink testicles. cigarettes shrink penises. thats been the only proven thing to shrink the male area.

  • @jupetzku I bet you are jealous and btw the penis doesnt shrink of steroids, its the nuts, so I dont think they have small penis XD

  • does anybody know how much jouko ahola can squat?

  • When your nose bleed's. You know youre from Finland. SISU !

  • nose bleeds are quite common in strongman and sometimes in bodybuilding

  • His one rep max is 402.5kg.

  • Dude is having a nosebleed.

Makes me wonder what Anime he was Watching. -.-

  • This is a good example of how the size of your muscles isn't equal to your strength. Ahola's got a much smaller build than most of the professional bodybuilders, but still he could lift almost 800lbs twice. That's almost as much as Ronnie Coleman can DL.

  • @Arpapala Ronnie Coleman can deadlift 800lbs 2 times also but i love Jouko

  • @SAkarkki but Ronnie used a suit, straps and bounced the weight lol

  • @Feon2 agreed

  • @Arpapala yes I agree , but I am pretty sure he hasn't used even close the amounts of hgh , anabolics ,.... as ronnie coleman .

I'm not even sure if he ever has used any roids

but anyway ,you know its brutal if you have a nosebleed xD

  • powerlifters stop hitching when the judges tell them to, jouko ahola stops hitching when jets from his nose bleed starts splashing his chest. ;)

  • Fucking badass!

  • bleeding from your nose has got to be a warning sign...

  • @JoeJC In russia, red means go

  • @JoeJC BLOOD POURING OUT OF YOUR NOSE WHEN DEADLIFTING IS A SERIOUS WARNING THAT NOT ONLY IS THERE TOO MUCH WEIGHT BEING LIFTED, BUT THERE IS A SERIOUS POSSIBILITY OF ONE LIFT TOO MANY AND A HEART ATTACK HAPPENING WHILST IN THE MIDDLE OF A DEADLIFT, WHY IN GODS NAME IS THERE SO MUCH BLOODY PEER PRESSURE TO ACHIEVE THE ULTIMATE LIFT AT THE EXSPENSE OF ONES HEALTH, THE IRON GAME IS A SPORT TO ENJOY, IT IS NOT ABOUT SILLY CHILDISH TEST WITH HOW MUCH WEIGHT ONE CAN LIFT TO PROVE A POINT.

  • That dude is one powerful man. Thats why he one the worlds strongman 2 times

  • Jouko has said that the reason why he uses this type of technique is because he has long arms and his back is alot stronger than his legs. And he knows that this might not work for everyone but it works for him.Atleast thats what he said in some interview...

  • Jouko is one of the main characters of a film called ''MAL DIA PARA PESCAR'' check it out as the film is just GREAT. He is not only a bunch of muscles :)

    XX

  • all u ignoramuses out there talking about how to do proper DL, stfu, ok. None of u assholes have never even been near, or lift, this amount of weights in you lifetime, with brute strenght, and having the nerves to advice Jouka or other strongman, is just pathetic. He's not a a powerlifter. The only goal he has is lifting as much as possible. Whether if he arches his back or not, he still managed to lift nearly 800, solid ass, lbs, twice. somehitng u assholes will never achieve.

  • DejanDancu,

I could not agree more with you. Everybody on youtube purports to be an expert in whatever the fuck they happen to be watching at that moment.

Any body who is serious about power lifting knows that in order to lift tremendous weight, one cannot have a perfectly straight back. The lower back muscles are essential in completing the movement. That's why advanced lifters train their lower back with Romanian dead lifts and Good Mornings.

This guy's technique is almost flawless.

  • so hes suposed to have a nosebleed ?

    awesome.

  • Yeah Yeah, this form is never going to work, the back is not straight, whatever, but he won the strongest man 2 times, i think he knows how to deadlift better than you.

  • he is a mean machine

  • 1:01

  • jesus christ that guy is strong, wow he looks like hes around my height but at 250-270 lbs ;O

  • this makes me want to go deadlift. except without the bloody nose...this guy is an animal. my favorite strongman.

  • thats a pretty high incline on thaqt squat machine.

  • 423kg is the RAW Deadlift WR by Any Bolton.

  • actually konstantin konstantinov just got a RAW deadlift of 426kg (didn't even have a belt!!!)

    watch?v=wh-ikyBAQr8

  • @deemfingtee konstantinov is a beast !

  • how do you know that? i didnt even know there was a raw deadlift record, no one seems to give a shit.

  • It's not uncommon among guys who lift a ton of weight.

  • I never did it at all.... on my last three attempts at 1 rep max. i popped a nose bleed... Its actually inspiring both to myself and to others in some ways... I belive physchologically it helped me on my dead lift.

  • rounded back though. could lead to injury. an awesome pull nonetheless

  • deadlifting 800lbs is not weak ever.

  • hahah hes bleeding

  • This is just so... fucking raw!

  • don´t be fool!!!!!!!!!

  • what did I type?

  • can you lift 360 kg many times?

  • No just once atm... Almost 2 times.. But one whole time...

  • i can lift 250kg and 200 kg in squat!

by the way congratulations and sorry for my posts.

  • its alright! I don't know how much I can max to be quite honest. Congratulations to your abilities!

  • he had done two sets of 3 with 320 and 340 earlier

  • did he have a anurisum

  • Finnish ''SISU'' !!!

  • Haha, He (Jouko) was in the gym today with me :D Couple hours ago @ Hämeenlinna Finland Swimhall gym :)

  • cool :D

  • you're sooo lucky!

  • That's Aholatta awesome!

  • o kurwa!

  • when i was little juoko was my favorite strongman and he still is

  • YOU FAIL!!, IT'S JOUKO

  • Juoko Ahola?

  • In the dictionary there is link to this video to explain meaning of HARDCORE. Definition of Harcore. The Most Hardcore!

Jouko was the Best strongman in the late 90's.

  • Yeah and he was only in his mid 20's and like 20kgs lighter than a lot of his competitors! I dunno why he quit strongman

  • I'm guessing it's because he already was at the top of the mountain twice (no IFSA back then). He was relatively healthy and hadn't suffered major injuries and I'm sure he wanted to keep it that way. I'll bet he misses competing though, sometimes.

  • lol

    \/

  • Bleeding from your nose is not dangerous. When under a lot of effort, you can easily pop a smaller vein in your nose, not worse than ordinary nosebleeds. I've got it several times in the past, it has stopped now though.

  • It's when you bleed from your ass that you know you're overdoing it!

  • or you need a new training partner

  • I love it how guys like you give training tips on safety and how to succeed in their sport. When he has already been the WSM twice. I think he knows how to train.

  • Fair Enough. I wont argue with that.

Blood leaking from your body when you lift something cant be the best thing for ya. Thats my only point.

Either way his feats have been and are pretty impressive to say the least.

  • "blood leaking from your body"

...lol it's a mild nose bleed

    perfectly fine to get one

    especially when deadlifting

  • How much was this lift?

  • If you watch the clip it tells you 360kg in big numbers right at the start

  • 792lbs...to convert kg's to lbs multiply the kg's by 2.2.

  • yeah everyone complain about his form, its obviously not working for him (sarcasm)

  • beast

  • Steve Bechler from Baltimore.. well we could go on for ever.. this is sport, no game I agree, I'm just concerned because my heart is not that tough and I'm sur that so much pressure can bring some troubles as you can see

  • we could also talk about Jesse Marunde at age 27who collapsed and had a heart attack

  • I'm refering to "Surpassing the upper limits of physiologic concentric left ventricular hypertrophy: atrial fibrillation in an elite power athlete" by rob dickerman but Reza Azizi the iranian competitor had this type of problems too I think(not so sure)

  • lock it out Jouko you mad fucker!!!!!!!!

  • common..not in my sports lol, don't know that's quite frightening it makes me think of suden deaths

  • How many documented sudden deaths in powerlifting do you know?

  • Jesse Merunde and a big Icelandic fellow a few months ago kicked it right in the middle of a workout

  • Yes, that's two. How many more? Let's take those two plus all others that had sudden deaths while workionit out in the last 10 years and call it N.

Then compute the probability of dropping death during a powerlifting workout at an advanced/elite level.

We can take a % per capita (N / the total number of people that have been training in the last 4 years).

Or a % per workout count (N / the total number of workouts performed by all in the last 5 years.)

Is it really a high risk sport?

  • And this is what it says about Jesse on wikipedia

"On July 25, 2007 Marunde died following a workout in Sequim, Washington. The cause of his death was a genetic heart defect, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes."

  • is that blood?! comming from his nose?! wow stop I love sports but when THIS happen you sit down and think about being still alive in one year...

  • wow, its just a blood vessel popping common stuff...

  • amicka75, you are a wimp. blood coming through the nose is common stuff in most sports. And people don't die within a year.

People who get scared of that and don't push themselves physically, those are the ones that die early (or at least live crappy lives by being overwheight or underweight.)

    Seriously.

  • actually I'm national level in gymnastics on floor and pommel horse, who are you to call me a wimp? when you put so much pressure there is nothing good in it, don't tell me there is no vascular accident in this "sport"? in mine if you execute it perfectly you don't get hurt that's all, I respect this man but honestly I don't see why going so far for few reward, unless you think big muscle and strengh is enough as a reward..don't call me a wimp again I didn't insulted this guy.

  • My apologize for the insult as it was uncalled for. Maybe in your sport it isn't the norm, but that does not make it the norm in others.

It will be great if you can quantify/qualify how bad pushing it they way he can be.

That is, how exactly this is damaging? What about the sudden deaths you referred to?

What medical, documented cases do you know off that lead you to the educated conclusion nothing good can possibly come off this?

  • Thats what i call going heavy.

    Great video.

  • remember the days when Ahola and Samuelsson ruled the strongman competitions..!!

  • terrible form.. his back is an arc..

  • Excellent form. This puts me in mind of myself when deadlifting- although my PB is somewhat lower at 440lbs. However, this PB was achieved completely natural without the use of steriods or any other supplements.

Jouko is a legend amoung strongman and those of you calling is technique have no idea- for there is more than one way to skin a cat!! I have personally met jouko at Britains Strongest Man and he has been an inspiration. The guy sets up and tests all the equipment and he's still v strong

  • without steroids? wake up you nonce-artist..

  • What i meant is that my personal PB of 440lbs was with out the use of steriods or other supplements. I never have and never will take steriods.

  • take steroids they are good for you

  • Very strony, excellent form - it puts me in mind of another deadlifting sumpremo Dan 'The Danster' McLoughlin. See my vids of him in action, almost identical technique on the deadlift. The only real difference between The Danster and Jouko is when it comes to the grip, where The Danster reigned supreme in a grip contest between the two of them at Britains Strongest Man 2007 where the Danster closed the Captains Of Crush number 2.5 where Jouko failed and looked in amazement!!

  • Bad position

  • where is the turd and toilet flush?

  • that shit is hard

  • You guys sound like a bunch of fucking dumb asses.

  • His nose is bleeding because of his blood pressure. He is performing the Valsalva maneuver nad his blood pressure is already elevated because of the steroids(i´m not against it!)

  • When thinking about neurologics and biomechanics, the talk about "bad form" almost becomes ridiculous. Why ? It's because the brain neurologically compensates when you cant manage to lift/hold up a weight. When you strain your body to a limit that you cant manage to keep a certain posture other muscles kicks in to try to stabilize/aid your lift. This means that almost all the time you wont see any good form from anyone trying their best. Form could avoid injuries and keep you doing saner lifts

  • his form is terrible and on the last one he was hitching

but that deffinately doesnt mean hes weak he could just probably do more with better form

  • how can you say he is weak i'm sure you cant even deadlift 300 pound

  • bub...are you retarded. He clearly said "that definately doesn't mean he's weak". Is English your first language?

  • 300 kgs

  • sickness

  • in case you idiots haven`t noticed-he lifts from an elevated platform which make it even harder.

  • My God!! :O

  • Holly shit!! He had his nose bleeding over that!!!!!!!

  • haha that was funny

  • deadlift is funny to watch on here. everyone has terrible form.

  • Yeah, you must be right, I mean the guy has only won World's strongest man, and probably spent half his life in the gym! Sorry, what was it you won again with your perfect form?

  • being strong doesn't mean you have good form. he can win WSM 458732405 times and his form still sucks. his back looked like an overpass. i'd rather deadlift alot with good form than bad.

  • Or, maybe he knows a little bit more about deadlifting than you do.

  • this is unhealthy.

  • this is hardcore

  • hell yeh

  • WHAT THE FUCK....He strained so hard his BRAINS started leaking out????

  • now that was a tough lift

  • That's all back.. pretty dangerous.

  • his back looks really really rounded... is it just the camera angle though?

  • One of the greatest Strongmen ever websurfers! easy to make dumb comments tough to really do something of merit!

  • Why doesn't he lift with his feets? that's crazy. :O

  • die

  • you most bleed from your ass

  • WARRIOR!

  • Fierce!

  • attana rautaa nousee äijjällä.

  • Is he nose bleeding? omg..

  • it's bleeding and he's licking it. 0:36

  • Haha, holy SHIT it looks so bizarre.

  • i'd hate to be his lifting partner...need a damn hiv test after every workout session...

  • Ive seen him deadlift 425 Kg in competition, very strong back!!!

  • I was told that its better to live like a tiger for one day then a thousand years as a sheep!!!

  • very impressive but the dude is crazy to continue after blood shot out of his nose.. is having a heart attack really worth another rep LOL

  • i pop blood vesils when i sneez it all depends on the person and it has no affect in the long term when you can do what he did then say shit about him but until then admier what he has done

  • No i would advise against ever using straps for any excercise. Seems like our guy here is pretty strong, was an excellent first lift, then it kinda goes a bit downhill, his high BP kicks in and his face starts leaking then he appears to be raping the bar in order to lock out his 3rd lift.

  • intense vid.

FSI dont do deads with straps. they make ur grip weak and overall will turn you into a woman

  • i dont think it matters if you lift 300+

  • of course it matter. doing deads without straps builds your forearms like no other movement. plus u cant use straps in competition.

  • Forearms have limits.. lower limits than back and legs. sometimes you have to help em a bit with straps.

  • you are only as strong as your weakest bodypart.

  • the only time you should use straps is when your doing strong man or the bar is to slipery otherwise tuff it out or lower the weight

  • or if you're at the end of your week and you still have an exercise like shrugs to do and you really don't have any grip left in your hands come thursday or friday...

  • i agree

  • Not to be a dick but it depends on the competition, Powerlifting no wraps just chalk, Strongman it is up to the head of the contest and what you are deadlifting.

  • moron, 360kg is 792 pounds!

  • bluer32 thats why u shall never succeed in anything. u wont even get an employee of the month at mcdonalds.

  • You are right there jack. I will never be caught dead working at a McDonald's. I might consider owning one, but not working at one. Too much work, not enough money :P

  • why is his nose bleeding?

  • its becouse of the preasure in his head.

  • Mitä helvettiä=What the fuck verta=blood nenästä=from nose

  • Damn thats heavy -Finnish Power!
