If a suspect has a weapon at 21 feet or less and the officer has a pistol the officers have a great chance for great bodily harm or death before that officer can stop the threat. When the 2nd, 3rd and other following shoots were fired they were fired by other officers not just the first cop.

What difference does it make how many rounds were shot. 2 cops shooting 5 rounds each takes a split second. ALL cops are trained to aim at the body mass. They shoot to stop a threat. The guy also made a move backward toward the one cop while maybe intending to swing the pipe. I just don't think they were in fear for their lives. The better decision would be to tackle the man.
