@diarmuid998 - I wouldn't agree with you that "the best hurleys are mike fitzgerald from cork"... The Star Hurleys by the Dowlings in Kilkenny (66 Upper Patrick St, Kilkenny - Telephone: 056 77 22777) are by far superior IMHO. But everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Google search "Dowling Hurleys | Irish Guild of Ash Hurley Makers" to see the making of the Dowling Hurleys. They show some nice repair work there also.

I would recommend using a band or 2 tho cuz it makes it stronger. If your looking for hurls I would say you should use FRANK MURPHY from Kilmeaden co Waterford. Also do not use bolied linseed oil. Instead use raw(Dj Carey said that anyway)and use a brush to even out the linseed. does a much better job!!
Why not boiled? Also, a brush does no better job than a paper towel. There's no need to spend the extra money. A thick coat of oil on the surface will be thick whether it's from a paper towel or a more expensive brush.
Is it hard to come by hurls in the states? Are they expensive?
A glue that i use, but i'm not sure if they have it outside of ireland, is silkaphlex which is used on car windows. But that epoxy looks fairly strong now. does anyone know if it can be bought in ireland?
Our club imports them. It seems we've always got someone going over every month or so. The cost is about $50 a hurl. (not cheap)
We have a few people who use the black windshield adhesive also. But it remains overly flexible and I've been unimpressed with the results compared to a good epoxy.
I'm in Brown Deer which is a suburb of Milwaukee Wisconsin USA.
I do fix hurls fairly regularly. My son breaks them and I used to break them. That being said, I've never had one break in the same place twice so what I'm doing is working.
stupid Americans all of them want to be irish !!!!! RECKS ME GAFFF

is epoxy a good water proof glue
can u get it in ireland

Epoxy is completely water proof. It hardens into a plastic but maintains a very minor amount of flexibility when used on wood.

I'm partial to the torpeys for most positions. Fulls should be using Burkes. That being said, I don't know where to get a Burke anymore.

You look like you're a total pro at it. I'd love to be able to do that some day. Where are you situated? Do you piece hurls regularly?
