@agwhitaker To resolve any misunderstanding with other posters, World War II is generally accepted to have begun on Sept. 1, 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Germany. The U.S. declared war on Japan and the Axis powers immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor two years later, on Dec. 7, 1941 (Source: Wikipedia). Until then, our participation in the war was limited to the Lend-Lease Program. Master Chief James Taylor (Ret.), who was interviewed, obviously misspoke.
Truly inspirational. RIP all the men and women who died on that day of infamy. May we learn the lessons of war. Thankyou gentleman for giving up your lives for freedom.
I remember when my dad was PCS'd to Ft. Shafter and he moved us to Aiea Heights in the foothills overlooking Pearl Harbor. It was an ever-present reminder. RIP
