Saying to not buy from AutoZone is pretty ridiculous. It's the brand you buy that matters. If you cheaper out and bought a store brand clutch, Thats your fault. Not theirs.
Man, did someone at AZ corp send the minions in? haha In addition to the terrible clutch, there was the time where I was going through AZ lower control arms like Scooby snacks, one every 2-3 months. The lifetime warranty was great and all, but AZ doesn't pay me for the time that I wasted every time I had to replace that arm. I finally said "f this" after the third replacement, and bought new arms from another local parts house. 5 years later, and the new arms are still good. Just sayin guy.
As someone that works auto parts, the generalization that one store has a crappy lineup is absolute rubbish and ignorance.
Believe it or not, the parts that you buy at one company probably go through the same vendor as another company and they just slap their own labels over the package. Duralast is AutoZone brand, but the actual parent company may wind up being factory. You just never know.
Cardone, Fenco, Johnson Controls, Wells etc.- you'd be surprised how much isn't actual store brand.
Did you replace the pressure plate? Did you have the flywheel milled? Did you you take accurate measurements and make sure there isn't too much of a gap?
@DarkGemini1979 Could be that you just got a bad one; that could happen with any manufacturer. If this happened on a large scale, Duralast would go out of business, so you probably just got a bad one. Also, it is very important to break in a clutch before bringing those RPM's up. If you rev it up right after you install it, you can damage it. Of course if you're going to be racing with the clutch, it makes sense to buy one that is designed for high revving.
literally went to autozone today for an inner tie rod for a 2000 tahoe and they handed me an outer tie rod for an old ford bronco....I just about slapped the dumb ass working there.
Not being able to shift at HIGH RPM's is most of the time from clutch drag, that would also have signs of the clutch sliping. clutch drag can be vary bad for your trans as well, with the clutch draging you will be riding your synchros and end up burning them up.
dont buy clutches from autoparts stores period. if your clutch goes out put something decent in there and be done. same goes for everythin. dont just replace, upgrade
agreed, if your going to spend the time/money to have a transmission removed for the clutch spend the fuck all extra and get a good clutch put in. Autozone is only there for gold windshield wipers, fart cannons, neons, giant 15K tachos WITH neons and playboy seat covers.
i dont want to sound like a dick, but i think everyone knows not to buy clutches from autozone. auto zone is for oil and car cleaning shit, in my opinion
seriously dude...i work for autozone. for your cluch 2 slip nasty style like that either the car is highly modified ( over 300-350 whp)...or u didnt follow break in instructions and u glazed the clutch meat. our clutch are VERY reliable and carry a lifetime warranty. a friend of mine is running a stock duralast cluch and pressure plate in his 7second awd talon....(no slipage)!!!
I would recomend Weber clutch its double friction and it works great the only reason it slips now is because I dogged the poor thing on drag radials and nitrous launching at 4k
i don't think autozone was your problem it was the company that made the clutch, if autozone was the company that sux 4 u but i ordered my twin disc clutch from there for my mustang and my short throw shifter and everything is fine
Shit thats nothing. My clutch just went out in my yj wrangler. I cant even get to 5 mph on flat. I had to put it in 4 low just to get home. 5th gear does about 7 mph! lol
before i actually started beating on my car, the clutch feel was always dramatically changing. Anyone know why? its a huydraulic clutch and is NOT low on fluid
Yeah, that sucks. I got a clutchmaster's/fidanza aluminum flywheel on a mocha '91 that did that at around that speed and rpm. It's like a relapse of a horrible nightmare...
That stinks, I've got a stock clutch on mine with over 45k and it still has a very heavy pedal feel and firm quick engagement. I can beat on it all day and it never slips, although I try not too :-). I don't know where I got mine from as it was in the car before I bought it, I just know it's stock from what the previous owner said.
Haha, smart ass. Yeah that'll fry a clutch in no time. Oh by the way, why the hell is this guy revving the motor at 6 grand when it's got 160k miles on it. Are you nuts?
@palebeachbum Hahaha. You're an idiot. I'm not driving a Model T. I'm driving a modern car with sintered connecting rods & forged crankshaft. I have done extensive work on my car, including a manual transmission swap. There's no reason not to spin a well maintained engine past 6,000rpm, you stupid fuck. I bet you're just a troll who can't even do an oil change.
@paulmerz Seriously? Wow, there's so much wrong with what you said I don't even know where to begin. I'm might be a faggot, but at least I'm not dumb white trash. Congrats.
@palebeachbum dumb white trash? Excuse me? You are the troll talking mad shit when you don't know what you are talking about on youtube. I think you are the fucking idiot here. You can't counter anything I said so you got all butthurt about me saying faggot.
Again, with a properly built car with forged internals and tight tolerances will be fine to drive the snot out of after 20 years or 200,000 miles. I would kind of know, due to experience, working on and driving such cars.
Just for the record did you do the 500 mile break-in period? Just wondering because that could be a reason as to the slipping. Btw, how many miles are on the clutch? Are you on the shoforum?

The clutch should last for over 100k miles, unless it's just a poorly designed trans or your ride the clutch hard.
