  • "Do I have a rotator cuff?" I should hope you have two! Not sure if the left one was ever a problem for him.

Good to see he's doing all right now.

  • He seems down to earth with a great sense of humor. Thanks for the great memories, Vida!

  • Hey unc

  • Vidas 1971 season......All-star, A.L. MVP, A.L. Cy Young, 24 wins, 1.82 ERA, 301 k's

    As good as it gets.

  • He looks good.

  • does anybody know his specialty pitches???

  • If memory serves he had that fast ball, but I believe he actually had 3 types of fast balls. Then there was the curve, and lastly a slurve, which was a combined slider and curve. He had great movement on each pitch. That's what really made him effective on the mound, especially in the early 1970's.

  • FASTBALL - remember the 'blue blazer'?

  • I remember Vida Blue when he broke into the major leagues back in 1970, or was it 1971 with the Oakland A's. He was one of the big reasons why the A's became a 3 time world series champ and a lefty too, a great guy indeed.

  • @Zippertheslipper

Actually he made is debut with Oakland in 1969 at age 19. And yes he was brilliant for the A's and definitely contributed to the Mustache Gang's 3 back to back world series titles.

  • He was one of the hardest throwers in the early 70's after Nolan Ryan.
