A lot of this is because Gene said he don't like jam bands and doesn't care for Phish's music. However I like both and the one thing I can say is Phish had more complete albums that I'd listen to from START TO FINISH unlike Ween that have a lot of weirdness between the greatness.

Phish has covered many songs....Boogie on Reggae Woman, Frankenstein, Loving Cup....Its what bands do. Each song they cover has a distinct Phish vibe to it. I'm sure Ween has covered plenty of songs in their time.

It is a simple cover song. Phish has only played it 14 times. Both are good bands and I don't understand why people are arguing over this. It's a good tune and Phish played it a few times, so what. This version is much more laid back compared to Ween's. Both are great, but it is a 'when and where' kind of thing for each version. Ween's would be great for an upbeat jam, whereas this is better for a relaxing trip.
I grew up with ween and i love them to death. I however did not grow up with phish. Ween's version is alot more upbeat and fun. This phish version sounds like monotone singing robots with instruments. That is my observation.

actually (locozito), this was one of the first times phish covered this song.. less than a year old in their repertoire... it takes a while for phish to make a cover their own through trial and error... listen to Roses are Free 1/1/2000 at Big Cypress ("The Show") to hear a truly epic, original masterpiece Phish is usually not centering their performances around lyrics either.. They express their "vocal style" thru their instruments... ween and phish r both different and both great bands

It is a simple cover song. Phish has only played it 14 times. Both are good bands and I don't understand why people are arguing over this. It's a good tune and Phish played it a few times, so what. It has nothing to do with who is a "better band." So you are a Ween fan (I am too) and like that version better, good! I dont think Phish tried to improve the song, they just played it. It made me discover Ween. I think that is a good thing. Just enjoy the music.

I've never listened to Phish much before, but this is really enjoyable. Fuck the rivalry, this is a great cover of a great song (though the best video of this song will always be the dancing robot version of Ween's original album version)

This version is much more laid back compared to Ween's. Both are great, but it is a 'when and where' kind of thing for each version. Ween's would be great for an upbeat jam, whereas this is better for a relaxing trip.

I grew up with ween and i love them to death. I however did not grow up with phish. Ween's version is alot more upbeat and fun. This phish version sounds like monotone singing robots with instruments. That is my observation.
