I've read talks with RAMANA five times or so over the years. You have put it out on the table so plainly for all to see, but I'm afraid most people will try to figure out what you're saying with their mind.......going up against the mind is a battle royale....when the mind stops there you are................... thank you john
Pleas can anyone answer me? John Sherman tells this technique to those who are searching and cannot stop. What about me, I am not searchig at all. I just meditate to enjoy it. I do not wanna be enlightened,. Does it mean that poeple will use Ramana's method just to be like me?
If that really is true MrCuteBlackie, then why the question? Is there any problem? If you only meditate to enjoy, then that's the end of it and you don't need any answers from anybody, surely? Or perhaps you're secretly seeking some kind of validation / confirmation at some level, in what you said? Shine the light on it.
I've been thinking about this for some time (3 years?) I came as far as this:
You are one that hears your thoughts. You are the one that is looking at the images of your minds eye. You are the one that is fead with emotions. You are the one that is in silence all the time. The rest is called reality. Why there is a reality remains unawnsered. For reality only exists in the present and its goal cannot be seen.
That is a greate understanding REALITY remains unanswered becouse everything in this world is madeup of somthing else, no distinct object is selfsustained. Simmilary in meditation what is experinced is chain of thoughts and body sensation. The paradox is the mind and the Relative world seems to be fluctuiations or movements and what remains is the knowledge of this, both are mysteriusly real and unreal. .But also all words are man made so what remain is THIS,AWARENESS,EXSITENCE,BRAHAMAN,GOD,LOVE
" What we are looking for is what is looking ". This quote from Francis of Asissi is the most succinct explaination of self enquiry I have found and explains the seeming paradox in the video. What is conscious of the question is ,in fact, that which is sought.Mistakenly, some think" Who am I?" has a verbal or conceptual answer, rather than pointing to the pure awareness behind thoughts. The answer to the question is not an idea or concept but the EXPERIENCE of pure awareness.
Ramana did not do anythng--some very huge transformation fell on him like a ton of bricks.Like two tons of bricks.I guess the only thing for it is to go to a country where bricks tend to fall out of noplace in ton lots.
Hi, thanks for the comment, sorry about the late reply, I ain't been paying attention to my Squidoo site. Yes your suggestion would probably work. Ramana was certainly unusual, he saw the ton of bricks coming his way and decided to stand still and see what would happen. As a child he was known for his fearlessness. The last time I saw a ton of bricks coming I jumped out of the way, but I guess if we buy into duality we all have our own karma to work out.
To see, hear, taste, smell or feel no effort is needed. Why are we then applying so much effort to... simply be?
Ask your self: "how do I view myself right now"? ...Ask again, and again... and the falsehood of ideas will reveal it self to you.
Namaste :-)

At first glance, he seems much better and clearer than most of the neo-Advaita quasi-Gurus.
