  • meine zeit die 80er da gefällt mir fast jedes lied wahr einfach eine super zeit alles

  • from Wikipedia:

"Such a shame" was inspired by Luke Rhinehart’s The Dice Man, one of composer Mark Hollis' favourite books.

The Dice Man is a cult novel published in 1971 by George Cockcroft under the pen name Luke Rhinehart and tells the story of a psychiatrist who begins making life decisions based on the casting of dice.

  • @TheViralSBK I have to Thank You for this Information about The Dice Man! Now I understand it all. Great Song, I love it from the Beginning. I was born 1971 like the book :-)

  • @TheViralSBK

Thank You for this Information about The Dice Man! Now I understand it. I know the Song from the Beginning, I was born 1971, like the book :-)

  • @TheViralSBK Now THAT, if true ( and I dont doubt it ), is a POST worth `Posting`. Thankyou whoever you are friend....Makes a change from the petty arguments we normally get. TALK TALK are a classic....dont bitch on their site folks, argue elsewhere. They`re WORTH so much more.

  • @duran9418 Thank you, I wrote that comment to encourage the use of Wikipedia. I know that Wikipedia may not be 100% reliable, however I clearly remeber watching on TV an interview of Mark Hollis back in 1984 where he explained the meaning of this song, and though the details got a bit blurred in my memory 25+ years later, I remembered about a man using some dices - so I went to Wikipedia and got all the details. Wikipedia is really cool if you want to know things about songs

  • mark hollis you fucking creative genius xxxxxx

  • Nouvelle Vague's cover of this song brought me here. I like this original better.

  • 27 years ago, and still a DIAMOND! Mixed in disco with Pet Shop Boys' "West end girls" and Matia Bazar's "Ti sento"...unforgettable!

  • Énorme l'intro... et tout le reste du morceau ! merci ColourOfSpring de m'avoir renvoyé à mes 18 ans :)))

  • That was real music!Today there're 99% of cheap covers, which are released every 2 months new.

  • 27 years later and its still powerfull and a wonderful refrain! wow, that was real music!

  • I love this song.

  • the beginn is crank!!!!!!

  • i want everyone to listen up right now to the 2 things i have to say...1) i fucking adore this song. an 2) you all have good taste in music!

  • This is like the greatest song ever composed.

  • @WhoAmI4631 quite possbily...at least 1 of the best for synth pop.

  • @codern Heart of Glass by Blondie is also one of the greatest songs ever composed.

  • East or west, British pop is the best

  • @universaliss damn right!

  • @universaliss You're right. Tears for Fears...Spandau Ballet...Pet Shop Boys...Bronsky Beat...Talk talk...Roaring boys...and many many others! You made '80s unforgettable! Ciao from Italy.

  • Tu rajoutes un "Y" et c bon : t'as compris là. Spanish/english.

  • Talk Talk is sheer genius!!

  • I used to come home from work at the bar I was a DJ put this album on and play mario brothers...lol

  • what a fucking awesome band...why are we as a society so passive ...we need another revolution against the rubbish we call music that is being churned out today catering to our oblivious youth..talk talk about a shame!

  • @codern thats what my band has set out to do, and i am part of the 'youth'

  • @deadfredshead well thats awesome and i wish you success with that. what kind of band are you in?

  • @codern well we're a mix really between my funk inspired bass, a metal drummer, classic rock guitarist and a pop/rock singer, i think its a great combination of people who all hope to change the direction of music

  • @deadfredshead sounds like my kinda band. Well let me give you some sound advice. Dont set out to change the direction of music. Set out to be great musicians and a great band that creates great music. As a positive byproduct of that, change would be great. But remember, there are tons of great musicians out there, today however, they are underground, the shit gets to be on top..so does it really matter if you "change" the direction of music. It may be ideal, but just be proud to be an

  • @deadfredshead underground success, becuase by todays standards, that is the greatest unfortunate compliment a musician can hope for.

  • @codern i suppose creating good music is ideal, thanks for the advice

  • That is Pur 80s Atmosphere...This Song is a Symbol from the Lifestyle of the 80s!!!

  • mark hollis you genius

  • More people need to hear this music

  • ok talk talk is great, but that picture looks like a trapper keeper cover. not trying to start a fight, theses are just words. trapper keeper!

  • @ThePopadopolous gee whiz spelling is hard! these, not theses! im a goof.

  • greatttttt !

  • Man, when that Bass comes in............jiggle them toes and eat a sugar sandwich!!.

  • It is a shame, all we got today is shite music!

  • Great cut, I would NOT call them ahead of their time but just just very good. Agree or disagree respectfully. There were a handful of bands form this period that had awesome alternative music - a super time for music (especially dance club stuff). Its a long list.

  • yes indeed very much ahead of there time...

  • its a shame

  • Why aren't my headphones louder?

  • This is all I ever want to hear again.

  • Translations of udor and tubegoods comments on a postcard please....

  • Talk Talk have next Prog Rock make - than no more believed for the capitalism disc industry ...

  • This version with the nice rhythmic intro is the best. Do you people the New Wave of the eighties? Brilliant song it's got the atmosphere of a very produtive British decade.

  • bellissimaaaaa!!

  • Good stuff but their ultimate masterpiece will always be spirit of eden.

  • einfach nur genial

  • Such a Shame Talk Talk very nice Song!!Tank You!!

  • still amazing

  • Una canzone, una storia, fantasticaaaa!!!!!!!!

  • the best intro i've ever hear;mark, you're the ONE!!!

  • Bonne chanson

  • che meraviglia!

  • vecchi ricordi molto bella la musica e le parole ciao.

  • Typical of good bands. Unless you paid off a DJ like Madonna your music would never be heard on the radio while other bands are so overplayed! This is the first I've heard of the band, after seeing another YouTube video "Life's what you make it" They're really good!

  • not much happening in this video, anyway good music

  • those puzzle pieces are moving holy schmikey

  • A great song. As good as, if not better than, what Duran Duran were doing at the same time; yet Talk Talk never seemed to get the same exposure as LeBon and co. Such a shame (no pun intended). I'm 29, and first heard them, by accident, on Arrow, classic rock radio.

  • @saintsouleyman the only thing i know is that mark is retired and spending his life with his family now, he doesnt make music anymore, paul webb and lee harris? dont know.

  • if you released this today the kids today would have a cerebral meltdown , music has deteriorated so badly since the 80's and early nineties their minds ever full of needy rubbish would dissolve

  • I Love this song ! I love the beginning ! Just perfect !

  • ONE MORE WORLD TOUR... PLEASE!

  • Yeah, ":It's a shame we don't have great music like this coming out of the radio these days. Were force fed autotune garbage. you can take all the artist today and plug-up the oil leak in the gulf!

  • @MrMusicman488 well put!

  • @MrMusicman488 Actually we in holland have this music coming out of the radio ;) on Radio Veronica, its great! All kinds of old music. But sometimes i'd just pop the talk talk cd into my player :)

  • @MrMusicman488 Chill... you can find good music, just not in the mainstream.

  • @MrMusicman488

out of the radio usually not that's right, but there's still great music made - just in other genres

  • Maxis maximal!

  • the great part about htis song is the stuck record thing at the end, reminds me of my life at the mo, someone give me a kick, cause im dying slowly!.

  • @MrThornton23

Cease being under influence of narcotics when on youtube. :L

  • clearly to see where kanye west got his album cover inspiration from

  • great stuff

  • I played it round and round on my Walkman in 1986

when I was on the streets of the West End as a sales rep

I loved it then-and still enjoy it now.

  • man a nice comment..i am thjinking how it was..the old times..you and a walkman with this big headphones..the old american cities...nice phantasy

  • @tranccefiend Still love it, just like urself

  • its about time mark hollis/talk talk were in the music hall of fame.

  • I used to play Nintendo all night until like 4am and listen to this...a bit drunk so it was at full blast...lol

  • A bit depressing but this band is genius, 20 years later! Now my son asks!

  • Yes a bit depressing but, You`re right this music is still to this day ahead of it`s self pure genius

    Cheers :)

  • Spot on srch4you! For me (producer myself), the most influencial and interesting band around back then (and still today). Such a shame we can't get more of Mark and the rest.

  • Such a Shame. What a song. Rythmic unison and brilliance in music. Talk Talk absolutely astounds the listener with perfect lyrics, perfect music, and perfect timing. I've read thousands of fabulous comments just on this site, YouTube, alone. What a group! They are fantastic and their music is remarkable!! It leaves an imprint on your mind. We need to urge Talk Talk to tour one final time. Their support would be overwhelming and successful! We love their music!

  • I like it,good song :)

  • c'est toute ma jeunesse. que de souvenirs

  • This song, Such a Shame, along with Renee, Does Caroline Know, It's My Life, and Tomorrow Started are all ginormous, classic Talk Talk hits. Talk Talk's music leaves the listener spellbound, ultimately tapping the "replay" button again and again. Their music is synthetically balanced and lead vocals are heartfelt and rich. Talk talk gave us "timeless" music in song. On a personal note, I look forward to the day when one lucky group will magically remake these songs.

  • If you like Talk Talk's album/single covers you could join the "James Marsh Appreciation Group" on Facebook dedicated to the guy who made them all!

You will find all the James Marsh original works made for Talk Talk and lots more.

  • the best

  • This is probably the greatest song of all the time and i don't exaggerate!

  • I LIKE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!! ;-)
