  • Why married pilots? One reason is emotional stability. Single men are greater risk takers. The main reason: pilots wouldn't land it in Russia and allow the Russians to grab the technology. Married men were not likely to leave behind wives and children. The Russians used this tactic also to prevent defections. In reality it was so difficult to build even duplicating it would take many yrs.

  • @XDpro3D. I don't know why you think they brought it out of retirement, I would love to know where you got your info.

  • Waste of fuel, just call in a high def spy satellite.

  • @allenthefury At the time of his developement, satellite recon systems weren't evolved enough. it entered service in 1964.

  • I guess these guys can claim the Superman title, they DO travel faster than a speeding bullet! Amazing stuff. Imagine the guts it takes to fly the experimental flights, while it's still being developed.

  • Plain and simple: The most beautiful Airplane ever build.

  • I have a question... How the hell did they film this!?

  • Why do you have to be married?! lol

  • I love the irony of the titanium's source...Communist Russia sells the titanium, and the capitalist Dark Forces turn around and use it to pull Ivan's pants down in front of the world. I freaking love this plane...been my favorite since I was 10....which was a while ago.

  • why do you have to be married to fly it? :s

  • Awesome, I remember reading that the nose of the plane needs to be tapped back into shape after landing because of the heat, 'like ironing a shirt' the ground crew used to say.

  • Definitely my pick for most beautiful aircraft of all time.

  • this is american way!

  • @1BADAZZ350Z I remember seeing a video about the SR71, where a pilot said that a missile was fired at them and they simply outran it, but I can't find it anywhere so I can show my kids

  • @thesandonbar ..early 1986, under Art.51 of the UN Charter,USAF F-111 A/C flying" Operation Eldorado Canyon" completed strikes against Libyan Targets, flying post-strike reconn sorties, Major Brian Shul in a SR-71 had numerous SAM's launched against his A/C over Libya, Shul's "evasive excel maneuver" registered Mach 3.50,possibility the fastest ever recorded speed for a SR-71...THX

  • The SR-71 is a masterpiece of aviation. Even today, it remains the most incredible aircraft ever built. Not to mention all the records that it still holds.

  • why do you have to be married?

  • @drewrao8 They might be faster, but the Blackbird was the first. And think of ramjets and scramjets today; they are a lot faster, but they are atmosphere skippers. Though the blackbird may not be the fastest, it is still FAST, and actually saw service. And holds multiple records that, decades later, have yet to be broken.

  • @SkEtChSkEtCh9384 Ram Jets and Scram Jets are not manned aircraft. The SR-71 Blackbird is the fastest manned Jet in the world.I am just so happy that the Airforce brought it back since of last year The Habu is back and im fricken happy because its about time.

  • @SkEtChSkEtCh9384 ..Somehow an unmanned drone flying at hypersonic speeds for 90 seconds, isn't near as exciting as watching an SR-71 take off...things loss in time..THX.

  • @Blaeeeek no it's not. The x15 and x43 a are much much faster!

  • 2:34 HOLY SHIT did any one else think that was the pilot doing a fail eject?

    lmao

  • The fastest vehicle man has ever made... (Not counting the space shuttle)

  • Since none of you here know my true identity, I can can without hesitation that I was an Air Force brat growing up. Now that being said, my father was one of the chosen few to fly this magnificent bird. It was truly mind blowing to be a 12 year old standing in it's ominous presence. My dad was my hero (and to many unknown people)...si vis pacem, para bellum

  • @mrevolutionist I'm not sure which mission but when it's in the air your guy changes positions in the plane to use the radar/uav to navigate your team past the large enemy groups!

  • @mrevolutionist umm yes you do

  • @xXFR0GGXx when do you fly it?

  • My favorite plane....

  • The Okinawan people called these Spy Planes Habu, Because they were elusive, poison, and mostly black, like the snake with the same name.

  • @Davechop54 ..Watching the Habu touch down, the A/C truly does take on the appearance of a hooded corba, a good example of this see vid @ 2:29, then you'll understand the name Habu, which is a black colored corba that lives on Okinawa...THX

  • I looked around on the internet and it appears this is a clip from a discovery channel documentary called Spyplanes that aired in the mid 90s. There was also some discussion at that time about the 'being married' requirement, but I couldn't find any definitive answer.

  • @juandenz2008 ..In Spyplanes, the writer Steven Hoggard along with the remarks made by Stuart Brown were about the policies of the CIA and the men who flew the U-2 DragonLady A/C during the late 1950's and early 60's, aircrews flying the SR-71 had no marriage requirements..but the average Habu had 1500 hours combat flying time and held the rank of USAF Captain..before starting the one year SR-71 training program...THX

  • What is the fundamental requirement at around 4:20? That they be married? Why?

  • i flew on of these in......black ops

  • @chris1924fly righto u flew it in black ops? u dont fly it

  • @MrEvolutionist chris is right, ur trying to say that he is meant to say : i FLYED the plane?? ur wrong the past tense is i flew...

  • WHAT???????????????The J58 Engines are powerful enough to power the Queen Mary?

    Awesome!

  • So what documentary is this pulled from, so we can find the rest?

  • the 1,953 people who click like came to see that plane from COD.

  • they must be married?

  • Soviet antiaircraft missile complex S-200 aka SA-5 Gammon was designed in late 60th in order to fight this outstanding aircraft. This plane was one of the reasons why soviets created such a powerful long-range and high-altitude antiaircraft system.

  • Didn't know they had to be married. Interesting.

  • I want someone

to film the film crew in this.

  • Check out my channel for a review on the model of it!

  • Esse realmente e o melhor, sem comentarios!

  • If you have your headphone on you can hear the sonic boom perfect clear like a gun shot 01:03

  • Very interesting insight into pilot history. Thanks for sharing this!

  • this vid help me do my project

  • Married because I guess that the USAF thinks this diminishes the chances of desertion.

  • They are not returning nor anything as fast as that, at least not for reconisense, satalites do that job now.

  • @Lupef1asco1 my only guess would be so that they feel like they have something to lose and might want to take more precaution when flying...then again we might have misheard because it does seem like a silly requirement.

  • SR-71's are incredible...

  • why must they be married?????

  • Does anyone know if the SR-71 will ever return? Or is there a plane for something similar to it's speed in the near furture?

  • @xxxCHASEyourDREAMxxx The hyper sonic DARPA Falcon aircraft is designed to fly at mach 17, if my memory is correct. Following projects are expected to reach Mach 20. Overall, I suspect that the number and quality of space satellite systems and the small stealthy drones fielded by the United States have made the spy-plane all but obsolete.

  • Those pilots really were the best of the best.

  • Polution of the enviroment with the hydrocarbon liquid leakage.

  • @MadMilitiaMan. Kind of like shooting your enemy with his own gun :-)

  • burnhotdogoxide. Sounds legit.

  • @Bartoman7 I was just looking through the comments and knew someone had to comment on that part lol

  • is hot dog oxide a scientific term?

  • oh shit wheres my penis ? oh its in my pants my reactions when i saw the blackbird for the first time

  • So let me get this straight. We bought the materials to make this plane from the Soviet Union. Then we use the same plane to effectively turn Soviet Airspace into the SR-71's playground. Is that not a cold war slap in the face?

  • @MadMilitiaMen This wasn't used in the Cold War.

  • @MajorLiteral Yes, yes it was...

  • @iconseq128 No it wasnt. The U-2 was used in Vietnam.

  • @MajorLiteral

Do your research (read the book "Skunk Works" by Ben Rich). The U-2 and the SR-71 were both flying during the cold war. The SR-71 was conceived as a successor to the U-2 because we knew the U-2 would become obsolete in terms of avoiding Soviet defense weaponry. By flying higher and faster, the SR-71 had much less of a chance of creating an international incident because it was basically impossible to track and shoot down, unlike the U-2. The SR-71 could out run missiles.

  • @MajorLiteral Dude seriously? The Sr-71 was flying in the 60s..... And the cold war ended in the late 80s.....So by process of intelligent thought we arrive at the conclusion that yes, it was used in the Cold War.

  • @MadMilitiaMen

Had we not been able to buy the titanium from the USSR, then the plane probably never would've been built. They were basically the world's largest supplier of titanium. Our hands were tied. As you probably already know, the plane helped us spy on lots of other countries/situations, too.

  • BLACK OPS!

  • @akat417 i came here too from black ops lolz

  • The "takes off with dry tanks because it leaks so much fuel" is not true at all! This guy should have read Flying the SR-71 by Col. Richard Graham

  • SR-71 Most feared plane NA!

  • hotdog oxide. a most fearful chemical

  • I love the blackbird

  • @pilootjef i agree. the blackbird is such a beast

  • Anyone know why a "tooth ache" can lead to a blackout as claimed in this video? Also, what is the fundamental requirement for pilot qualification? It sounds to me like the narrator says "married" which makes no sense.

  • @Ieatutube Yes, to be married was a requirement. This showed that you were "mature" enough for the program.

  • @Ieatutube

They're at extreme altitude (85,000 ft), where the prevailing conditions are already inhumane because of air pressure, temperature variations, lack of oxygen, etc. Mountain climbers will tell you that a tooth ache could kill your near the summit of K-2 or Mt. Everest (only 29,000 ft) just because it's more difficult for your body to function and stay conscious in those conditions. Survival at such altitudes depends on your ability to react and withstand whatever stresses arise.

  • From Area 51

  • Wtf happens if you shoot a gun when you're flying at that speed??

  • @LINKROCKZYOU not much. If you shoot towards the front and you're traveling at mach3, the bullet will travel mach4 (relative to the ground) or away from you at mach1 (relative to you). If you shoot it backwards bullet will travel towards you at mach2 (relative to the ground) but since you will be traveling at mach 3, you will be loosing the bullet at mach1.

  • im going to drive it to school. not fly it drive it down the road.

  • thumbs up if this is your favorite plane

  • they should mod them and make them into fighter jets.

  • @4185562 It wouldn't work at all, it can't turn sharp enough to be a fighter jet, and it's too fast to shoot anything.

  • @4185562 there was a version called the A-12 that version could launch long range missiles but it never went into full production the US wanted it as a recon jet and not a fighter.

  • @TheAndy1233 That was the YF-12A (only 3 built). The A-12 was a single seat version of the SR-71 both recon aircrafts.

  • Does anyone know where the rest of this documentary is posted?

  • u get to drive those in black ops

  • @4:50 BLACK OPS!!!!

  • @Zeit57 soo true lol

  • @Zeit57 True dat

  • i bet this plane can even out run the f22-raptor and the euro figther typhoon....

  • @neocrescent it has the fastest air speed record 2,193.2 mp/h

  • @pkownz3 im not familiar with the speed record of each plane, i just assumed that the sr71 can outrun these 2 modern planes despite it's age because i really like it. so are you telling me dude that my assumption is true? i love this plane...

  • Lucky there wasn't any photo cops at that time..... :D

  • Even now ,this plane still looks futuristic :)

  • Dear santa.....

  • One of my all time fav aircraft. I used to love watching this aircraft take off in person while I was stationed at Kadena AFB, Japan. Night take offs were especially cool because of the those iglowing white hot afterburners. xD

  • Fuck the shit about 8 Killstreak and shut the fuck up about chuck norris and his flying or whatever AND STOP THE GOD DAMN LIGHTSABER JOKES! only orphans use them

  • Do you have a copy of the entire episode of Wings that the 7:16 clip is from? I've been looking for it for years.

    Thanks.

  • Bailing out must have been a real bitch.

  • Tis vid would be perfect if it was me piloting the blackbird

  • Did they try duck tape for the fuel tank ?

  • any colour you want,as long as its black

  • @4:50 Black... never mind..

  • @jaredlee283 f*ck 3arc they copy it 4:50

  • @MrRbarak Guess what? Your comment is hidden now because it received too many negative votes. Black Ops is the gayest game ever.

  • It's kind of ironic really the ussr was selling us metal so we could make an air plain to spy on them

  • @snipergy4 asshole its AIRPLANE not AIR PLAIN

  • y da fck is america buying metal from the soviets

  • why do u have to be married?

  • 2wentee4seven,

Because.... CIA (Cocaine Import Agency) is mostly CLOSET GAY men like Ted Haggard, who can speak GAY Languages easily & R expertly Cross-Dressers.... lol!! >=P

    Ted Haggard....

    v=mmMv0ceWTVQ

    CIA is very CLOSET GAY....

    v=E-8Aumyd-UQ

CIA stands 4 Cocaine Import Agency....

    v=_U9z-64FmV0

    They basically forced their Zion-Christian Whitey CLOSET GAYS to breed more of their GAY FREAKS when they should be ABORTED with GAY BIRTH DETECTOR KIT(S)!! {roll my eyes}

  • @IronJackalTw Stop hating yourself and just accept reality bro. This is the PROPER way to do business as it obviously worked very well. Gain peace from the knowledge of it, and do away with your home tendencies... ;o))

  • Amazing machine

  • Masterbated to it

  • 3:36 burnt hotdawg oxide?

  • how long would it take for the sr-71 to do a lap of earth?

  • @Budisgud69 You do the math, it is going at about 3500 feet per second but I don't know how long the planet is, again do the math yourself.

  • @theslamminsammon I cant :-( you do the math, then let me know the results ;-) lol

  • LOL bet the russians were pissed when they found out their titanium was used for american spy planes xD

  • if they flew those in the early sixties i wonder what they fly now

  • Dear santa...

  • crazy idea but why don't they put the fuel in moments before take-off

  • @joeyjoeyjoeyjoey101

They have to do a lots of prep & tests before takeoff. Imagine if your car had a constant gas leak. Not only that, imagine if you drove it at about its max speed for about 90% of your drive. You'd still run out of gas pretty quickly, even if you filled it up right before you left the driveway. The tanks of the SR-71 couldn't seal themselves until it reached really high speeds during its missions. Plus, it was designed to travel 3000 miles round trip on one tank of gas.

  • there were almost 3000 ufos seen around area 51 air base,i wonder how many of them were akctually sr 71 .all of them?

  • @whitearticfoxhound what does retarded mean and stop the non sense words (the bad ones) I wish it wasn't used before the nodies( year 2000 - 2010) it just gets people angry.

  • How did the navigator do his job, and why are there cones on the front of the engines. When was the only time the pilot looked out the window?

  • Black Ops

  • SR-71

  • dude i have a fuckin huffy that goes way faster. i did the math and by my calculations it goes twice the speed of light. the necessary fuel for proper combustion is unicorn piss. i cant seen the find any...yet

  • God damn, that plane is STUNNING.

That SR is the most beautiful woman I've seen....

  • there seven men hiding in that jet! ones furry an blue, the other has a metal skeleton.

  • @whitearticfoxhound...THAT WAS BAD! Really and why u uses the f word?

  • from 4:49 to 5:13 that looks like black ops the sr-71 mission

  • @xchiefXkillerx thats because this is were 3arc got the idea from

  • i checked the highest speed ever recorded in one of these and did the math, it would travel 3/5 of a mile every second HOLLY SHIT

  • its odd to me that the mig 25 which goes almost as fast didn't have the fuel issues, and the mig has the ability to launch missiles

  • @assman12354 problem was the Sr-72 was already long gone by the time the Mig-25's got up there.

  • @Dogmeat1950 i'm not sure what you mean, can you clarify?

  • @Dogmeat1950 once the USSR mig-25's where alerted and sent up the SR-71 was gone and out of their range.

  • This plane is beautiful

  • Sr-71 in the air .

  • This plane is just beautiful.

  • The man who was the captain of the sr71 that boarded was just like black ops when they get in the sr71

  • @themightyducks71 .... Are you fucking retarded?

  • The man who was getting on the plane was like mason woods or other character I think who got on in black ops

  • @themightyducks71 *Coughs* Call of duty characters arent real

  • Why married?? Can someone tell me why?

  • Married to the aircraft... or... yeah I agree what does marriage have to do with a flight requirement?

  • AirCrews who flew the SR-71, being married was'nt a requirement, however the CIA did like married men on their payroll, who flew the U-2 and A-12 A/C, reason being that being married would allow for a much deeped background security check, not only of the airman but also his bride's complete family background..the original vid was in 3 parts, during editing Brown's comments were about the U-2 flight crews, not the Sr-71..this vid is very misleading....

  • @pipercub123456 Interesting, Still a gorgeous plane.

  • @pipercub123456 Love it the CIA tricked the USSR for you younger folks that was Communist Russia. To buy parts for the plane, I never knew that...Brilliant!!

  • "FEEL THE GLORY OF JETFIRE!!!"

  • 'Like' if your here due to black ops

  • was anyone else looking for the band SR-71 and wind up here?

  • "enemy SR71 online" time to dashboard.

  • "Stability. A married man makes responsible decisions better than a single man, because he has much more to lose, and must factor in the well-being of others. His thought process is stable and predictable.

Losing a SR-71, especially to hostlie nations was just not an option."

  • 3:28 sticky back plastic. Blue Peter use it for EVERYTHING.

  • JETFIRE!

  • "If a surface-to-air missile launch were detected, standard evasive action was simply to accelerate." This has got to be one of the best things I have ever heard.

  • BLACK OPS TOTALLY COPY FROM HERE

  • This plane makes laugh when the US hypes up China's military power.

  • Ant guns, or rocketts???

  • 4:15 Thumbs up if you think they used this in Call of Duty: Blackops

  • Cruising at Mach 3.2 for 90 minutes is unreal imagine if the rebuilt those motors today with modern turbine tech it could cruise at mach 3.35 without having to worry about the temperature.

  • I remember watching a documentary about the SR-71 where they were interviewing Russian pilots who encountered it back in the 60's & 70's and they were absolutely flabergasted by how fast & high it could go. They tried to intercept it several times over the decades but could not even get close to it. Also, one of their pilots was stunned that a nation like the U.S. (whom he had thought was soft due to the Russian propaganda) could even design such a plane.

    Hahaha fucking topgun goose died
