Actually, most small birds have no fear of hawks because they know they can outmaneuver hawks, and for the most part small birds are not worth the time/energy to a hawk.

The difference between Mocking Birds and Blue Jay and Shrikes - is that Shrikes will attack any sized bird (Crow, Hawk, Eagle) in flight and knock them to the ground ... The Fiscal and Loggerhead Shrike are the most aggressive birds I've ever seen in Africa. They don't play ... and all birds fear them ... wisely so ...

Look at the size of tiny mockingbird next to the huge hawk! Heroic courage! Mockingbirds will only do this when defending their nests - they will rather sacrifice themselves for a meal than to jeopardize their young! If they get sacrificed, the other mockingbird partner will continue feeding their babies. I say, some human beings don't have half the courage and passion these little birds have!
