@Namriu94 words of a judgemental dick/hater, who gets butthurt the moment someone remotely questions capoeira, because capoeira is the best martial art ever and clearly well represented in this vid with all the handspins. go read up on Capoeira Regional if you didn't get the point
@Humanoids no i don't believe its the greatest martial art ( on account that most attacks need you to be motion to preform at there fullest) , its just the most peoples who practice karate like styles tend to believe that any movement that isn't clear in its purpose ,acrobatic, or just looks a little excessive is showing off and isn't really useful. what defines a "useful " attack , one with out skill ?!
@Humanoids oh, for fuck sakes the one retard there is doing handspins while the other two are fighting and it is disadvantageous, because most of the moves in capoeira are not suitable for actual combat, those are elements of dance and acrobatics which is closer to modern capoeira. a "useful" attack is an effective attack without you leaving too much openings. I don't practise karate and I do love capoeira, but I am being realistic.
i just attached blades 2 my shoes for capoeira they r awsome man i wana see this movie/and for the history debate yes started in angola as N'golo thats the original style then when the slaves where taken 2 brazil it evolved in2 capoeira then when the brazilians took it 2 north america the kids developed it in2 break dancing =)
People try so hard to turn capoeira into the most controversial martial art, when in fact it's very simple. African slaves from many tribes practiced their own martial arts, when the portuguese shipped part of those slaves to Brazil those slaves decided to continue training to fight against the oppressors, but, because they would be seen as rebels otherwise, they incorporated their techniques in a dance...thus capoeira was born. Doesn't get any simpler. 1st guy in the vid's breakdancing though.
@Ojokernegro You are 100 percent right. People still have to know that it is an African art and not a Brazilian art because the mainstream keeps calling it "Brazilian".
@memyself2k he is right actually, i'm brazilian and studied history... capoeira was created in brazil by mixing the african style of fight with dance moves so that the slave's masters wouldn't know they were practicing a martial art.
break dance started from capoeira and you dont need ginga dumbass becaose in real life fight you will do de ginga no you will hit him whit a marteloor abensao some times whit an armada so you go fuck your self
@petarvavrin i think its humorous how people have the balls to say break dance started from Capoeira; sorry that your ego is so big to imagine that a person like me who did grow up in NY, observing the beginnings of break dance (NY was one of the places break dance was indeed born) can tell you, nope it did not come from Caoeira . oh it was embellished with martial arts later, but no, it did not .
Plus that fighter is not only Capoeira but also that Japanese sport martial art. Its a mix of acrobatics and numerous martial arts. The blade feet comes from Capoeira.
Even Brazilians say Capoeira came from Africa. Why do you think its called Capoeira Angola till this day. Look at the Brazilian movie Beetle. Why do people have such a big problem with it being from Africa. Capoeira is a combination of West African martial arts. If you go to West Africa and ask about African martial arts they won't know what the hell you are talking about. But if you say Warrior Arts then you will be shown numerous arts that look very similar to Capoeira.
.lol. so the fact that millions of black Africans were shipped to Brazil never happened?.lol. I don't mean to be patronising, but its obvious capoeira originates from Africans and from African martial arts. There for its predecessors were African and not Brazilian.
That's Japan. And the time could be right seeing that Brazil has the largest Japanese population next to Japan. This is how the Gracie father learned Ju Jitsu. But I agree, Monkey Fu and some of Capoeira look similar. I've been saying that for some time now. The ground moves and some of the kicks are similar.
Honestly it was more of breakdancing then Capoeria. If you watch a video of breakdancing and compare it with this, then you can see that the moves a identical. Cool movie too. Hopefully there's a sequel.
the movements for breakdancing are in fact heavily influenced by capoera if u went down town to river street in savannah almost any weekend u will see break dancers and capoeristas side by side
I make capoeira (acrobatik and kicks and all ) 5 jear , but here I just see the same... How can I see real fight with Capoeira style? If enyone giwe me a tipp THX!
Guys, relax. Obviously to the trained eye there are break dancing movements and there are capoeira movements used in the choreography, and a couple of different guys doing them. Its just a movie, and a fantasy movie at that. In the movies you can make people fight in whatever way you want to. So what's all the fuss about, really? :)
i think it is a capoeirist doing the movments but it could also be monkey kungfoo their is a capoeria mokey kung foo fight on hear it could be eiter just missing a few bits to make it better for the movie
Actually Capoeira Angola has a ginga regardless of how it varies between people and style. Remember that the ginga is sometimes so small its only a single step or hop, but its still a ginga.
Please do some research into its history before stating misleading facts.
Also I know its a wild shot, but try and look at Capoeira Angola as it is with its Africanity intact. Because what many people see in Capoeira Regional and Contemporary today are only seeing 1 side of the coin, not Its African roots.
@larwil98 Yup forgot that jinga meant sway for a bit... It's not always the stand-up jinga most see in Regional but it's a jinga non the less. ty for reminding me :)
well then you should check some videos made by lateef crowder..he is high level capoeirista, but when he is fighting(with a person wich isnt capoeirista) he never uses ginga..
no the ginga is actually the movement in the capoeria. its the start out basis for it. and lateef uses it when he is serious. sometimes he wont uses it to show off. and actually i've meet him along with the zero gravity stuntteam over him in new york and yes he uses the ginga most of the time. it is the start out rythem to the movement of which instrement is used.
i know what ginga is because i´m capoeirista, i´m only saying that i haven´t seen him doing ginga in the fight..maybe 3 or 4 times..his fights would look much better if he would be doing more ginga and less acrobatics..
hey there's a guy in my capoeira class that weights 320 lbs,his nickname is Montagna..of course he has a muthafuckin' hard time doing handstand exercises and can't do acrobatics..but still, he's pretty darn flexible and he follows up the normal class like everybody else, please,please,please..at least give it a try, your missing a life-changing experience if you don't. Go on, you have nothing 2 lose!
ok then i want to do it, not try it. man oh man i will love this art. i know a guy who is a mestre and he is willing to teach me. thanx for the modivation kaynyne13. but im only am 280 pounds so i will do it.
kaynyne13 is right..in my capoeira class is also a guy hwo is huge..but he workes hard and he is also going to get corda on batizado..but he is 40 years old, and you are 18...there is no rule in capoeira how should you look like but how strog you want to know this beautiful art..sorry 4 my english, i think that you got the point what i wanted to say..
can you explain me why this isnt capoeira?that guy with knives on his legs is definitely capoeirista..im capoeirista too so i can recognize the moves..if you have better explanation please tell me, id be happy to hear it..axe capoeira..
O yes they do, thats called malandrage. (Err i can;t remember how to spel it). You can do a useles move to lead the other into a other direction and that surprise him from the other. And that my friend is capoeira
No, If you can mislead someone with a move, then it's not useless. I know what is Capoeira. And I know that misleading Is a very great thing in it, but I didn't mean that. You misunderstood me. I meant religio and macaco. They are for show not to fight with them. While you are doing a religio, you are an easy target. But don't wory I know what is Capoeira and I know what are the moves whitch wasn't made for fighting, and witch was made for it. Religio isn't a misleading move. (But finta is.)
oke maybe i misunderstood. But macaco isn't a 'show-move'. We learn to realy aim you macaco and if someone is behind you and you are on floor its a great move. I'm not shure what a 'religio'is. Some kind of salto mortale?
Ow and just for the comments about breakdance/capoeira: breakdance is based on tapdance hiphop and a lot of(!) capoeira. So it doesn't has got nothing do do with it.
Yes you can use Macaco, Salto, Au Sem Mao in fights, but only in special cases. But its better to not use Macaco In real fight, becouse your opponent can step on your stomach. Rather Gato. In the roda I like to jump on my opponents head with and acrobaticas, thats fun.
Religio is also known as Clock. You put down your elbow to your stomach, and your spinning on it. Thats very difficoult.I meant with it has nothing to do with it,that Capoeira in fight isnt look like break dancing as much as this.
stupid movie..and what about that b-boy?i dont believe..the guy was using breakdance in the fight, so stupid..capoeirista was good though..i liked when he did meia lua de compasso with knives..great move...
i agree with jelchic, the movie was stupid, as i said before i have seen lots of japanese films, but death trance, has to be one of the worst j-films, sadly a lot of otakus think is the shit xD.
this movie was bad, it was totally bad, the figthing scenes were aweful, the only thing that got my attention a little bit was the clothing, but other than that the whole movie was aweful, the script, the fighting scenes, the characters, the plot. i've seen many japanese films, and the only one that is kind of good, is death note, japan doesnt know how to make movies. sadly, they have the potential, they just dont know how to use it.
that is capoeira.. i can do those movements... thats not breakdance... i mean he did macaco like 50 times, and Meia LUA! DU! capoeira... im a capoerista trust me thats capoeira... btw. capoeristas can do windmill too... its easy as heck..
yeah i agree this is an awsome capoeira scene and it did catch my eye ,i thought it was breakdancin in the beginning but then when it went on i noticed some capoeira in there. although i don't really get the story line in this movie.
I did'nt confuse break dancing with capoeira I've been doing capoeira almost three years and I saw he was doing break dancing moves at the begining but as I watched I saw some capoeira in it
I think you miss understood my comment brother! I was agreeing with you and laughing at the name of the move you described! I have been practicing almost 12 years and I consider you, and every other capoeirista part of my extended family.
i only saw one villain that was using capoeira moves. the other guy was just breakdancing like an idiot, doing the "crab" (the spinning thing on the ground). the "crab" is not a capoeira move.
I was'nt focusing on the first guy the second guy was the one I saw doing the capoeira moves that caught my attention I just liked how he stopped him with the sword while he was doing the windmill and ends in queda de rins (but in the first guys defense he did use role and another basic move but I can't remember the name of it
Too bad the rest of the movie was trash...

i agree with jelchic, the movie was stupid, as i said before i have seen lots of japanese films, but death trance, has to be one of the worst j-films, sadly a lot of otakus think is the shit xD.

this movie was bad, it was totally bad, the figthing scenes were aweful, the only thing that got my attention a little bit was the clothing, but other than that the whole movie was aweful, the script, the fighting scenes, the characters, the plot. i've seen many japanese films, and the only one that is kind of good, is death note, japan doesnt know how to make movies. sadly, they have the potential, they just dont know how to use it.

to me every fight with dancing stuff is capoeira, but it would be cool mixing capoeira with breakdancing!

yeah i agree this is an awsome capoeira scene and it did catch my eye ,i thought it was breakdancin in the beginning but then when it went on i noticed some capoeira in there. although i don't really get the story line in this movie.
Dejango01 4 years ago
Coolest Capoeira movie fight scene I've seen since The Protector. The fighter has a very interesting style.

Sorry, this junk has nothing to do with capoeira...
brassbando 4 years ago
breakdance originate from capoeira so it doesnt matter what it looks like. it is just capoeira that has lost his flow.
lustatifer 4 years ago
at first it looked like break dancin'. but it was ok.

the crab (ROFLMAO)
Don't confuse capoeira with breakdancin'!
There was hardly any capoeira in this.
malandr0bem 4 years ago
I did'nt confuse break dancing with capoeira I've been doing capoeira almost three years and I saw he was doing break dancing moves at the begining but as I watched I saw some capoeira in it
MRWrong491 4 years ago
I think you miss understood my comment brother! I was agreeing with you and laughing at the name of the move you described! I have been practicing almost 12 years and I consider you, and every other capoeirista part of my extended family.
malandr0bem 4 years ago
yeah only one guy was using capoeira... he nice style... i gotta watch the rest of this movie though it looks really nice
steeloavenger 4 years ago
i only saw one villain that was using capoeira moves. the other guy was just breakdancing like an idiot, doing the "crab" (the spinning thing on the ground). the "crab" is not a capoeira move.
boomdia 4 years ago
I was'nt focusing on the first guy the second guy was the one I saw doing the capoeira moves that caught my attention I just liked how he stopped him with the sword while he was doing the windmill and ends in queda de rins (but in the first guys defense he did use role and another basic move but I can't remember the name of it

Came out last Fall. It's so-so, but still worth a look. Wish there was more capoeira in it.
