  • And what's the chord at 1:16?

  • if you don't tap your foot on windy and warm you are either def or dead!!! TOMMY FOREVER.

  • I could listen to this guy play 'scales' forever and never get tired of hearing him. Every time I see him on here I'm all over a long journey of TE tunes. I think I have almost all his titles including the latest instructional DVD. I wonder if anyone else got the humor in the two titles? lol. sigh, one day I'll actually get to see Tommy up here in New England.

  • Greatest Performance Ever!

  • @LenzGuitar Agreed, I've been coming back to this clip again and again since 2006!

  • tommy is a real wizard.

  • fuck

  • Windy and warm is a song written about farts. Its got that "sneaking up on you" sassy guitar, then around 2:30 it gets that "Im busy but i will stink ya later!" style, with a final warning to make u feel dreadstink at 2:50. Think I am crazy? What is the next feature? Classical Gas!? COINCEDINCE???? I dont think so..

  • One of my all time favourite youtube vids, I can't stop watching this, makes me wanna play!!

  • Tommy dosen't plat the guitar, He is the guitar.

  • what a lame crowd, he's practically jumping out of his skin and they are chuckling and giving the odd clap! he just keeps pulling harder -go Tommy

  • i just started listening to tommy emmanuel 2 days ago and now i believe that he is one of the greatest fingerstyle guitarists...and that approves my opinion.

  • i love the part 5:58 how he do that :P

    Best guitar player ever

  • @RihadAlAra he tugged on the neck, bending the strings all at the same time really... i think :D

  • Exactly, place you finger on the 12th, 7th, or 5th fret to 'summon' the harmonics, then bend the neck BUT not to hard, hahaha.

  • tommy the great

  • How could this not be the best video on You Tube......

  • if its not, i wanna see what is

  • yes tommy you beast

  • 5:05 gET SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-haRDcoRe

  • He's the best guitar player in the world, in my opinion. Chet Atkins is good too but he's...I can play this on guitar and I'm 12, but not as good as he plays it.

  • Unbelievably good!!!

  • holy shit all i can say haha.

  • I'm sure they could Gareth Pearson to fill the 3rd spot!

  • I remember him saying in an interview that Joe Satriani wanted to tour with him and do an all-acoustic G3, but Steve Vai refused to play unplugged.

  • greatest ever and you wont thumb me down if you watch the whole vid

  • me i won't ...

  • He's on FIRE!

  • Does he really play natural harmonics on the 12th fret or so from 0:45 to 0:50? It sounds like someone's playing a keyboard in the background, unbelievable.

  • Yes he does, but that is far from the most difficult thing he does, the thum that keeps going is incredible ;-)

  • which harmonics? sorry, but I don't hear them and I can't see him playing any (in 0:00-01:00)

  • what a bloody legend. i wanna boof him!!!! RESPECT. awsome tune. gunna have my work cut out for me if im gunna get this one down.

  • at 3:38, YES...! this man is THE MANNNNNN

  • whats that clasical quote at 2:50 lmao

  • The hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg

  • wth im rewporting to youtube its supposed to have 176,173,975 views

  • penso che Tommy Emmanuel sia in grado di fare tutto con la chitarra, anche il caffè! Grande!

  • I saw Tommy in March 2009 and it was the most amazing perfomance in my life! This video really conveys the magic of watching him in person, thanks for sharing!!

  • what do you mean "...being an aetheist ?!" ??? If you are referring to Tommy, he is a strong christian.

  • This whole video is incredible. This guy has so much skill it should be illegal. What kind of guitar is he playing? He plays it pretty much every video.

  • It is an Australian made Maton - he has a signature model but check them out on the web. They are wonderful instruments; many made from native woods like Bunya and Queensland maple. They are gorgeous.

  • Yeah, you ain't kidding man, such a nice guitar. Love the sound of it, too. But it's a bit outside my price range... maybe someday, though.

  • Check out Cole Clark guitars. Aussie made as well. Clark was with Maton and wentout on his own and partnered with Cole (These are last names - can't think of their first ones...) The "Fat Lady" series - particularly the FL 2, have great sound and a reasonable price for what you get. Jack Johnson among others plays one....

  • Where are you able to purchase these guitars anyway? Do you have to order them from their shop or something, because I'm not seeing them for sale on other sites. Doesn't really matter anyway, I just purchased a Manuel Rodriquez classical acoustic, so all these questions are just for future reference. Thanks for your help, though.

  • He plays a Maton BG808 specifically designed for him. It is now sold by maton now known as the BG808TE =]

  • probably a maton guitar, he uses them a lot

  • i can play dis song on guitar but its SOOOOOOOOO hard

  • practice only accounts for 30% of this man's ability

  • Comment removed

  • Do you think that he got the talent for free? It have been developing for 50 years of daily practise. Tommy always says that one who thinks he doesn't practise is a fool.

  • did you even read my comment?

  • Ебнуться можно

  • I know that I am less than a squeezed pimple but if you ever come to N.Z. I must open for you or tune your guitars or somthing. I have actually meet a freind of yours who lives by a popular ski feild, and he has many photos of you and your brother, and they are not of you 2 playing guitar, more like hanging out.

  • 5:56 is incredible

  • bend that neck!

  • wow awesome !

  • Best version ever I heard was Loose Ends BBC Radio 4 duetting with Hank Marvin. Perfect synchopation even though Hank was in a studio in Perth and Tommy was in Sydney. And I recorded it.

  • That's why he is so great, 'cause he can play this song in 6 different variation.

  • all at the same time of course, otherwise it would just be too easy :P

  • thanks so much omduent realy appreciate that .

  • what is the name of the song in between 2:51 and 2:56 ???????? THE SHORT LITTLE RIFF

  • It's from the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. It's from "In the Hall of the montain King". In Norwegian: I Dovregubbens Hall

  • Tommy E's joy of playing for people is evident in every perfomance. He is world class...only a few players can make you feel like listening all night. Leo Kottke is another that entertains me on You Tube nightly....

  • what happened .09 ?

  • seen man alive in kentucky .

one word "amazing", one man show

big fan my self of fingerstyle picking.

  • I can't wait to se him live, hes coming to sweden the 6 of april!!! ;D

  • すげ

  • AWESOME

  • i wish the light was better so that we could watch him play. it sounds awesome, bet it looks good too.

  • so nice good

  • Dude, I'll never take anything away from Chet's masterful skills...but Tommy is equally great and probably even more versatile in some departments. Chet knew that and he would probably agree if he was still with us. ANother one we should not forget is Jerry Reed, listening to Chet and Jerry picking is just awesome!

  • Tommy is wearing a thumb pick, as he does in about 80% of his songs...

And it's pretty well known Tommy is superior to Atkins in almost every way. Sure Chet started the genre but Tommy has taken it places Chet never could. Chet always said Tommy was the best the world had ever seen. Pretty common fact.

  • Legend. What more is there to say?

  • love the songs, Tommy have fans all over the world, hope hes touring to norway agein!

  • Tommy Emmanuel will be playing in Oslo Konserthus 4. april 2009... :-D

  • the hall of the mountain king ;)

  • Ugh I love this guy.

  • wow.

  • he is fantastic!

  • amazing van halen in an acoustic form!

  • Well, technically, since Tommy Emmanuel has been playing quite a bit longer than Van Halen it would be more accurate to say that Van Halen is Tommy Emmanuel in electric form. Actually, Tommy Emmanuel used to play a lot of electric guitar himself, there's at one album of him on iTunes that's almost entirely electric, and he's amazing in that as well. One song in particular, Initiation, is a very interesting and creative use of electric. I think there's a video of it on here somewhere.

  • This is obviously very late - but initiation is not played on an electric. It's an acoustic-electric which is obviously essentially an acoustic.

  • That is a god damn sweet way to switch from windy and warm to classical gas

  • Awesome... u know hat hes playing for the 20seconds before 4.04... classical gas??

  • I think it is "walk don't run" by Chet Atkins where he blends in the windy and warm into classical gas

  • tommy is wayyyy too good. wthell.freakin amazing

  • whats the tune at 3.44 from anyone???

  • Classical Gas, originally written by Mason Williams

  • It's Tommy's rendition of "Classical Gas" by Chet Atkins.

  • My bad Tom, you're correct. I just always associate it with Chet.

  • more like 4.04 init.... theres 20 seconds of something else?? Cant put my finger on it...

  • its one of the other songs he plays...i forgot what its called tho. watch the video that says tommy emmanuel improvisation RARE because that song is in it.

  • BuddaMaster84 got it right "Hall of the mountain King" 10/10. It was used as the music behind the TV advert for Mortgage brokers - "Slater Hogg and Howison".

  • Still no clue its wrecking my head too... someone just said walk dont run.. i aint convinced...

  • Maybe compare yourself with something/one else

This man is a lifetime player. He's good, ain't he? Quickly I learned not to find out how he does it, just enjoy it! Somewhere he gives you great ideas in playing...But the speed and tenchnique!..It's insane! Greets from over here!..Wil

  • actually the amazing thing with this video isnt the speed or technique, its the way he uses the speed and technique that looks so freakin easy to him :D

  • the best accustic blues guitarist:)

  • norwegians are cool. cool audience!

  • you wouldn't be Norwegian by any chance? lol

  • I hereby proclaim this the greatest video of all time.

Also, that one of him playing Sanitarium Shuffle on here..

Hmm. I might be needing a bigger comment box!

  • Einfach nur geil! Der hat was drauf!

  • please excuse my ignorance, but on several of TE videos, I noticed him doing what appears to be adjusting a knob on the top (side) of his guitar. Is there something up there or is he doing something else I don't understand?

  • its a elektronic acoustic guitar . there are some buttons like volume, and bass-high notes adjustments or st like that placed there. sry bad english

  • your english is good enough for me - thanks for the information

  • Sorry, you answered his question, I didn't read further down. again sorry.

  • His guitar has a built in pick up for the amp. on the top there is a volume knob and adjustments for treble and bass. Hope this helps.

  • Does anyone know where I can find the basic guitar tab to Windy and Warm? I'd love to spend some quality time learning this song.

    Thanks,

    Dan.

  • i have mines in the guitar tab book " endless road" it has the cd version. but i'm sure you'll find it on ultimate guitar tabs dot com. just type into google " ultimate guitar tab" and it will come up with the link then search for " tommy emmanuel" in the "band names" tab. its an easy song to play but no one could make it sound like him.

  • Crap. Every time I watch this video I'm in awe. This has got to be video of any of his performances. If not please point me in the direction of a better one. I can't get enough of TE.

  • search "town hall shuffle" you'll get a two fer. Tommy and Phil

  • i saw his brother phil emmanuel in a pub a week ago, he is just as good except he plays more electric rock stuff

  • He did this on BBC R4 with Hank Marvin on Loose Ends and it was brilliant because Tommy was in Sydney in the studio and Hank was in a studio in Perth. You'd have sworn they were in the same room. I taped it!! May post it soon.

  • And I thought Clapton was amazing at the acoustic...

  • How could he be any better? Absolutely the greatest!!

  • I'm having a Tommy Emmanuel night. My Mac is connected to my HiFi so I hear it in full sound. I am going through the whole lot. These guys who run Tommy down are real w..kers. If they are so good, lets see their videos. Tommy for me is the best guitarist in the World, and I have a large collection of guitar records. I just wish he would come to England more often.

  • you give australia a bad name

    england is awesome

  • technically ur english, or irish. the brits colonised oz, and sent all the irish prisoners down there. least u can understand the brits.

  • Were you born an idiot or did you catch it?

He tours England every year, I've seen him twice, met him twice. He's coming again in November.

  • He is telling jokes with his guitar- listen to the passages he slips in and look at his body language - he's having fun and entertaining the crowd. Tommy often clowns around during his performances. There's a clip of him messing with an orchestra somewhere on YouTube. They don't know what's going on. He's one of the very best, and the most fun to watch.

  • these laughing guys suck...

  • Dont think they are laughin at him.. i think they are just amazed by his guitar play

  • Yeah I know, but I think they are laughing as if he was telling jokes...just don't like that ;-)

  • well, that is what he does, he makes it fun to both watch and listen to him. That's what make him special.

  • PLAYBACK...my father would play it much better^^

no sry just a joke....it's awesome. I thought jimi hendrix is the god^^

  • let jimi be jimi and tommy tommy ... lol. no sorry sire, just dont compare these two guys. theyre both awesome.

  • you must heard 'Angelina', 'since we met', and classical gass new version

  • Sorry, a little stoned, well 03.44 is just a another twist of classical gas, anyway check out GRIEG.....

  • try reading the title guy

  • Man this is serious stuff....

  • what did he start to play at 03.44 just before going into classical gas? it sounded very familiar

  • Iam pretty sure it is a classical composition by a Norwegian composer, Edward Grieg, the song is named "Dovregubbenshall", another famous composition by Edward Grieg is "morgenstemning" check it... A true Norwegian legend

  • He plays with heart, and that can be felt.

  • best guitar video i've ever seen..amazing play amazing show!!...

  • Have you ever watched "Angelina" played by him ?? its amzing

  • yes...it's a beautiful artistic song

  • i know almost that whole song

(proud) but it sounds nearly as good as when he plays it =(

  • Amazing!

  • Imagine finding out that you were going to be stuck in an airport for three days with this guy. So, he gets bored and pulls out his guitar!!!!!!!!!

  • 3 days of bliss... 3 days with hilarous jokes, insane guitar-picking and a really, really good time... :-D

  • sounds like a good way to end you life. If u had to chose how u wanted to die i mean.

  • awesome

  • if he can do that with an accoustic lets see him rock us with an electric ! XD

  • Die. Heretic.

  • Actually, it seems I read an interview in Guitar Player Magazine where Tommy briefly mentioned an interest in playing around with the electric more. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it. After a decade of being so acoustic-oriented, I think he'd have some nice subtleties to offer the world of electrics.

  • eeh, no. Acoustic is the shit :P

  • Search for "Tommy Emmanuel Determination" here on youtube. There he plays some electrical guitar. As far as I know he used to play a lot of shows with electrical guitar when he was younger....

  • He's been playing since he was a kid. Mostly electric till just recently. The man loves his work. Doesn't matter what instrument he plays I guarurntee he'll smoke it. Pick up some of his videos. He shares all his inner secrets.

  • that was so fucking awesome

Tommy Emmanuel is the best travis picker ever

  • its not just the guitar playing, tommy emmanuel also has a presence that no one else could beat. there will be people that can pick better than him, but no one will be able to play like him.

  • i see from the commenting and votes that the TE fanboys have struck you down. FWIW, i thought your comments didn't deserve the thumbs down but i'm a TE fanboy myself so i understand it :) Ahh the whimsical delights of the mob!

  • again i say wow

  • wow
