Can someone please help me! When i open a image up it automatically edit's the image the colour really changes, all my photos are raw, really dont know why and its bugging me big time!! Please help.
@Dalllas93 To put it simply, no. JPEG is a compressed image while RAW is uncompressed and on processed. Once an image is converted to JPEG (most point and shoot cameras do this automatically, so you have no access to the RAW) it can't be re-converted to RAW. RAW captures everything, JPEG tries to show only the best of the image, throwing away what isn't needed - so once it's thrown away, you can't get it back.
DSLR cameras give you the option of saving the RAW.
really helpful tutorial ! I just switched from shooting JPEG to RAW, and was looking for a free, user-friendly RAW processor. I also tried UFRAW, but this one is better.
@GHxx1 While I think you are right in that, it doesn't denigrate the program. It isn't the wand, but the magician. That said, I think FOSS and Open Source will be a great help to the next generation of freelancers who are intent on DIY
@mydinkywebcam i do not >___< (and i'm probably not better) but i guess if you have questions you can try asking me o3o i'll see if i can answer (´・ω・`) (but sadly i don't think i'll be much help, i apologize!)
it's a plugin for GIMP - I think. It opens RAW files and allows some editing and then has a button to send it to open in GIMP in JPG format (or whatever you choose).
I didn't shoot in RAW for ages because GIMP couldn't handle it and then I read about UF RAW - it does the job for what I use it for (mostly rescuing high or low lights from images when i've not changed the settings, etc)
@malgalin I've been running Ubuntu on my laptop for the better part of a year. UFRaw and RAWStudio are both open source programs that can be used to process RAW files and like Rawtherapee they are both free downloads.
From my limited experience I would say that Rawtherapee is better at processing and rendering data.

Thank you sir. Now I'm starting to shoot in raw more after knowing there is a software other than Lightroom that is expensive for amateur like me

@demongirl22 Look at it this way -
JPEG is what people who have cell phones shoot in
RAW is what people who are serious use
And yes, I do have a cell phone camera :D

@demongirl22 do you have a flickr/picasa account so I can see what you do? If you're better than me (and it wouldn't be hard) I'd like tips!

Is this similar to UF RAW?

I don't know...what is UF RAW? does it automatically export to Gimp? Is it open-source or proprietary?
