This is a version from the european tour released on a boot leg by a company called pied -piper out of georgia ( back then they were the major bootleg record producers) this album is called rok out cock out and has an awesome version of sympathy for the devil that is as good as or better than the one on get yer ya-yas out - and other great songs This was around 1976 when I got this album!
What happened to the rest of the song? Come on we missed about four minutes of how to get into a rock groove and end a song in high tempo and apotheoses.
Oh darling, this was my #1 for ages! Got it from on bootleg record (Bedspring symphony) from th US second half of the 70s! Still love every second! My oldest girl hates the Stones, most likely for the Rambler overdose she got in her early days...
I've never heard this version of Midnight Rambler. Wow, does it ever showcase Mick Taylor and he shines. Great song writing with the stones solid rhythm section and his blistering lead playing - man what a package.
@clafong9 This is from the bootleg of the 73 Brussels concert - it exists in various names "Brussels Affair" is one of them. It is a 'sound board' recording but exists in many different sound qualities. I managed to find a decent (not perfect) quality version - would not hesitate to call it The-Greatest-Rock-Record-Ever! Mr. Taylor is just phenomenally tasteful and innovative throughout - but also the rest of the guys are in excellent shape themselves including riffmaster Richards. MO of course.
I agree with those who've come to see Jones, Taylor and Wood as individuals who brought their respective capabilities to the band. I have thought for decades that Ronnie has been grossly underutilized compared to what he has done on his own and what he did with Rod & the Faces, But I do not think that any one of the three is "better" or worse than the others... just... different. Mick was a =wonderful= lead player. & the early Stones depended on Brian's ear for odd sounds.
Yup, amazing song writing during this period, but Mick Taylor drove that train during those years. Their performance videos since he quit are very, very weak. Not a surprise when you don't have a lead guitarist in the band. Probably too late as the horse has left the barn, but Taylor rejoining is a tantalizing thought. He can still play - see youtube vidoes of him in concert.
@clafong9 I'm a HUGE Mick Tay,lor fan... for some years here on YouTube I've put down Ron Wood in favor of Taylor, but I think I'm maturing- admitting that while Taylor was the very best, Ronnie still isn't far behind. Following Brian Jones and Mick Taylor must be really hard for him to live down since they were so creative and technically incredible!! Drugs and liquor also have taken a toll on the songwriting & playing in the Stones too.
@WestLAGuy Would've been Stu or Nicky probably in '73. Preston was only with'em for a year or so; '76-77, after Ronnie first joined. In the Black n' Blue "era"; if you can call it that.
Live performances with Mick Taylor made Rolling Stones the best band in the world. After Taylor left it was never the same. I agree that Mick Jagger and Keith should have the courage to recall Mick Taylor .
@arua182 Mick Taylor is on the far left. Between the Micks (not the Buttons) is Nicky Hopkins, their long-time organ/piano henchman extraordinaire. He was the subject of the Kinks' "Sessionman" song and is the "Edward" of "Jamming With Edward," a great album by 3/5th of Stones, along with Ry Cooder and Nicky Hopkins.
Combine Mick Taylor and Keith.. the greatest guitar partnership at all time. The young sublime blues guitarist with such a fantastic feeling and the chief himself.. their ampegs at full volume.. made the greatest rock and roll band in history.
Taylor's one of my favorites. Last week I saw the "Ladies and Gentlemen" movie and Taylor tore it up. The "Rambler" in the movie made my hair stand on end. It was just wicked.
Mick Taylor definitely was a great guitarist with the Stones. I never realized it until I listen to it now. He did add alot. Shame he left for his reasons. Also, I read he felt the Stones were not going to stay together past 1974. Get Yer Ya Yas Out is one of my favorite live albums, Midnight Rambler. I still think that's the best live version.
It's from Brussels 1973 Oct. 17, first show and it's on a famous bootleg. The so called Unreleased Decca Live Album (Keep Your Motor Running) is a bootleg from the American 1972 Tour with songs from different shows. Both bootlegs exist in different versions, all great but with different sound quality.
This song is from the FM radio broadcast King Biscuit Flower Hour and its from 1973. The unreleased album was from '72. It is a great version, one of the greatest. And Taylor's parts are the best ever and showcase both his virtuosity and great tone.
@grubbetuchus ---Yeah this was on the King Bisquit show. I recorded it back in like 1975 off the FM radio. The tape broke many years ago but the whole show can be found on the "Brussels Affair" bootleg CD. Your'e right---this is probably one of the best versions of the song ever recorded.
They didn't need Frampton, the Stones got Ron Wood. Look him up.

@swiggy58a Billy Preston played with the Stones before Ron Wood arrived. He was on the "It's Only Rock n' Roll" LP and that was released in 1974.
