What utter bullshit! This is not true, not even about West Africa. What about Congolese, Malian, Guinean popular music from the 50's and 60's? It's hardly Highlife. And what about traditional music, for instance the griot tradition in large parts of West Africa ... which is also music intended for a bigger audience.

This anglo-centrism makes me sick.

I thought Congo, Mali and Guinea are states located on the continent of Africa, so were is your problem. He talks about Highlife as Big Band Music and its international level.

Can you please upload this documentary I live in Canada so I won't be able to watch this film in Germany

It will not be possible to upload the documentary. Perhaps it will be soon to download. But first we will make the release of the DVD and we hope that even in Canada the DVD will be distributed. In Ghana will be a screening of the final version on 2nd February 2010 at the Goethe-Institut.

I love Lee Dodou's style. That guy Mc God, he is funny and really good. These guys are some really shrewd musicians. Unbelievable. It is a pity we ridiculed some of this music when we were growing up.

Oh yes, Lee Dodou works and lives since Burger Highlife in Germany

Cool. I never knew. Many of Ghana's Highlifers settled in Germany. I guess Deutschland was a good place for their music careers.

With German musicians and sound directors like Bodo Staiger and Peter Krick they created the Burger Highlife, but their success they had in Ghana and this till today.
