  • just goes to show how much HG wells got right, lasers are heat rays arn't they?

  • best bass line EVER!

  • Comment removed

  • again good viz

  • How the hell did you make this? you are a genius!

  • this is disturbing :l

  • dont really need to set in in 19th century. could be in this century, but with a twist to bring people back to a 19th century technology level... like for example, before all the aliens arrive, they disable all electronics devices with a orbital EMP. This would send people back to more or less the same technology level .. i.e. no micro-circuitry.. no co-ordination between the armed forces, advanced tech like fighter aircraft wouldnt work and we would be using cannons and newspapers and so on.

  • This is f'kin cool!

I love War Of The Worlds of course, though we are yet to see a true-to-the-book feature film version, and this is a very nicely done version. I like the style of much of the animation too - it looks contemporary to Jeff Wayne's vision for the story, and the Sky News clips are perfect and give it all quite a sense of reality. I can see that a lot of care went into this.

Definitely a "share" - great work.

  • @theestever There is one, but it was the cheesiest thing i have ever seen. XD

  • You deserve much kudos for these videos.

  • This vid is so much better, it seems to follow the original 33rpm LP

  • I whistle this one at work and no-one knows what it is...it's alien to them

  • I think what makes this production great apart from the sound track is Richard Burtons's voice. It gives a reality and fear into the whole thing. I agree as well - the remake with Cruise was totally crap

  • People slate the Spielburg movie, but all he did was set the story into a modern context. I liked it. I like the book. The film did have the red weed, tripods, vampiric Martians, admittedly two characters were merged to create the Tim Robbins character but all the same, it was a modern telling of the story, better yet, we knew nothing about the aliens, we never knew where they came from....it was good but someday one set in the original context should be made too.

  • @TheMasterNo6

No, I'm sorry the whole 'Martians buried under the Earth' was wrong. The Martians themselves were just laughable, and the whole tone was so sugary I almost became a diabetic just from watching it. it wasn't awful, it just wasn't very good.

All I want is for somebody to do an authentic movie version of the book; no modern updates, no moving it across the pond. Just set the damn thing in late 19th century England !!

  • Of course they did. And I'm Superman. Tell me where the Aliens are so I can kick em in their huge heads.

  • this work deserves a reward hands down best user made vid on youtube for god sake it was better than the movie that came out a couple years ago

    excellent work mate

  • Lol, Google Earth.

  • Anyway Richard K, I've just viewed the whole series up to March and I have to say I'm highly impressed that one man and his computer can produce such a professional-looking effort. (Be interesting to see if my previous comment is allowed by mods.)

  • LOL. All right, hands up all those who didn't enjoy watching that sky news helicopter explode in flames. Hope the Martians didn't take too long to hit certain other 'news' organizations formerly ensconced in Fleet Street. And I wonder how spectacularly certain silicon-enhanced 'celebrities' (associated with said organizations) would explode in a heat ray.

  • hats off to who ever made this video ive always said there should be a proper movie/musical of jeff waynes war of the worlds not the disapointing cruise/speilberg movie but this is the closest thing to it keep up the good work my freind

  • the new one is crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the old ones are normally the best and ind in this case to

  • is scare me !

  • @fjeffrey10 what just because the radio show was set there. This is a masterpiece. this and the muisc!!

  • Might want to read the original book from which Jeff Wayne's production was based on.

    Literacy... its a wonderful thing.

  • @fjeffrey10 no way..the book was set in the home counties in the late 19th century

this is a very good version updated and better by far then that Speilburg one!

(i remember how he also fucked up Dr Who as well!)

  • This part always gives me chills and when I listen to it while in a room alone IT EVEN SCARES ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But the music is SO AWSOME!!!!!!!

  • you aint the onley one

  • Nicely Done...

  • This was such a great record...I grew up with it!

  • I have been a fan of this for years and always wanted to see a decent movie to accompany it.This is by far the best I have seen to date.Very good stuff and fair play to you!

  • part ones next time video doesnt match this video

  • what?

  • I'm not much for when people create their own versions of stories using youtube but I must say that this is very well done

  • The soundtrack follows the original story which was set over a hundred years ago.. Steam trains in the station etc give an atmosphere of a by gone and military wise vulnarable age.. Then you see sky news live and the images fall out with the soundtrack.....

  • Well there's also the parabolic mirror, and the heat ray wasn't actually invisible; it is stated in the novel that it was accompanied by a ghostly beam. It would work on the same principles as a CO2 or Deuterium-flouride laser of Gigawatt output, with the visible beam used to prevent blooming.

  • Why does nobody understand what 'invisible' means?

    H. G. Wells describes the Heat Ray as invisible, because heat is invisible. Also, the funnel from whence the ray came is described as going 'straight up', clearly indicating a tube that extends vertically with no branching off parts. This arrangement is far superior than a gun turret, because it can rapidly fire in multiple directions, whereas a terrestrial gun would have to rotate 180 degrees to delete a target behind it.

  • The only tube that is vertical around here is YOU!

This is a great bit of work...maybe not THAT close to the book....but still a fantastic bit of work.

    All in all...fuck off.

  • @PatScully123

I did a bit of research after I posted that comment, and saw some pictures of tripods that had normal guns, and I realize now that it would be very hard to match exactly what it says in the book. I'm just a bit pedantic about things like this, without considering the feelings of others first - it's one of my failings. It really is very good, actually. No hard feelings?

  • No hard feelings :)

  • hey guys check out this new movie - 2010 FULL SCREEN TRAILER for H.G. Wells The First Men In The Moon in 3-D

  • Bass intro is hella scary

    Plz keep uploading :3

  • That Bass intro haunted me as a kid. AMAZING bit of music.

  • Gotta be Anthony Hopkins narrating?

  • Try Richard Burton

  • Of course! Silly me - I just got blonde streaks put through my hair!

  • I think it's Orson Welles

  • YES YES YES YES YES!!!! You've nearly completed my dream. thank you so much.

  • is that h.g.wells in the last black and white picture?

  • Agreed.

Spielberg butchered my favourite story. As soon as I saw the advert, I was like, oh no. The whole reason it was creepy and scary in the first place was because it was set a long time ago and in a small town, scared the hell out of me anyway. It's not the same in a big, American city with a whole 'isn't Tom Cruise a useless father' storyline getting in the way. Rubbish.

Ridley Scott would be great for a more faithful version. Get it done!

Nice work on the video, compressedfilms.

  • I agree. The novel and the musical work because of the intense detail Wells put into locations he was intimately familiar with, so the fantastic aspects of the story feel plausible.

The Spielberg film had none that. I wouldn't say updating the story or putting it in the US couldn't work, but you'd need to at least try and follow the spirit of the original story.

  • @RedOrDead31

I think the same way, out of its original contexts it losses all magic, if it was intended to happen in the present time this videos show the way that it should have been told... obviouly with better visual effects and with actors...

i like a lot this videos

  • @RedOrDead31 so true, and tom cruise! out of everyone, what the fuck...

  • @RedOrDead31 i almost cried at the remake. speilberg took all the atmosphere and 'alien-ness' of a classic piece of literature and turned it into yet another totally uninteresting happy-ever-after spielberg special.

  • @RedOrDead31 whats really wrong with the spielberg one is the fact that it's been americanised...does horsell common even sound remotely american??? No is ur answer..

  • Absolutely spectacular!

Liz McClarnon (from Atomic Kitten) and Jason Donovan are both going to be in The Musical Version of The Wars of The Worlds. Its just been announced. I found it out, on the war of the world website: the war of the worlds. com

  • aliens racist!!!

  • heh heh heh... "theyre not friendly!"

  • Man this is better than porn. Lol.

  • oohhhhhh!

  • what is it? i have no idea!

  • its sounds very familiar to the original, but i aint herd that one in ages, cant find it on youtube either

  • oh look, they were using google earth :D

  • Am I the only one who thinks Speilberg and Cruiz wrecked Wof the W? The openning was great, then it turned into the Diary of Ann Frank, except this time everyone was stuck in the damn basement. WTF...

  • i was abit pissed a majority of the film was in the fuk'n basement... we should have seen more destruction and running...

but damnit speilberg wanted to save money on FX's

  • Speilberg and Cruiz blew it. I wanted to see running and screaming and destruction, desperation. People acting like animals, but also great acts of heroism. None of that was in the movie.

    IT SUCKED!!!!!!!

  • yeah, the musical is more faithful to the book than any of the movies

  • Its rubish on a small screen but on the big screen with surround sound. Its fantastic... just on a small screen it seems so bad...

  • Yeah they totally destroyed WoTW... why couldn't some decent filmakers ( im thinking peter jackson could actually pull it off ) do it true to the book in 19th century Britain. And this is a great series of vids btw.

  • Totally agree.

  • I wholeheatedly agree. Spielberg chopped and butchered Well's story till it was almost unrecognisable. The only thing i enjoyed about the Speilberg film was the Tripods. The characters and plot did nothing for me at all. It would be so much more authentic and creepy if it was set in 1898 England. Your right, Peter Jackson is someone who could possible pull it off well. Ridley Scott could be anther good choice. Fingers crossed it will evetually get the epic, true to the book movie it deserves

  • I agree, the tripods were pretty good the only qualms I had with them were their heatrays and sheilds... ofcourse set in 1898 the sheilds wouldn't be needed and the heatray is so easily modified and they would of been perfect. Your right Ridley Scott could probably give it a very good shot, he could also probably pull off some of the horror feel I felt in the book. Fingers crossed ;)

  • If someone does decide to make a proper true to the book WOTW, which actor do you think would be good to play HG/the journalist? I think maybe:

    Gary Oldman

    Clive Owen

    Ralph Feinnes

  • Gary Oldman definatly, he's a very very talented actor who has shown he can play a variety of roles. I like your taste :P

  • David Tennant or John Simms would be good choices for the role of the journalist.

  • may be Johnny Depp?

    he's a damn fine actor!

  • check out pendragons war of the worlds by timothy hines. i love that one. its the only authentic version. everythings as it should be, cgi isnt that good though.

  • @Dinobot2468

    SO FUCKING SHIT!

  • hey no need to swear, i love it, just because the cgi is bad doesnt mean the film is bad.

  • Amazing video, is great how you put everything together

  • i love this album, it's like a time machine with date set to the 70's, love the moog synth, and that thrilling sound that reminds me the video game of the zombie ate my neighbors, thnks for the post, i love the music, but no offense, and thanks again for the effort, the video is a little crappy..........peace

  • I like the guitar in the beginning and the rest of the song! Absolutely amazing, it´s magic!

  • BLOODY FANTASTIC. I am such a huge fan of the war of the worlds and i sooooo love Jeff wayne's musical version it rocks.

  • Awesome video, I just wished that spielberg made his movie how it was meant to be instead of the crap he produced.

  • well personally i would be looking on sky news for news of the martian invasion, id stick with good old BBC lol

  • actually this is way better than what i got to see at the concert which mr wayne should be ashamed of. the video in the concert was probably alright in 1995 effect wise

  • bass line !

  • ahole

  • I sort of agree with the video part, but MAN am I glad they didn't change the voice of the journalist. If it had been anyone else besides Richard Burton....

  • strangely THEArticDragon they did...for the German release of WOTW album in Germany!

  • @grahamkeithtodd I suppose they needed to understand what it was about... did it at least sound like him?

  • strangely he did NOT! mind you the German lad did have a very good voice!

  • Well done! That's pretty cool!

  • WOW! absolutely amazing!! Well done and thank you!!

  • lol google earth

  • very good bloody good man you got talent

  • Of course it's fake.

    But my god it's entertaining.

  • Welll duhhhhhh...what planet are you from? Do not say Earth for fucks sakes! LMAO! Ya fucking wanker!

  • Comment removed

  • You are brilliant at making these, may I ask what software you used?

  • i am (can't think of an appropriate word so i'll use ) Flabbergasted, ...

thanks for doing this & thanks for doin' it so bloody well :)

  • what did you use to make this???

  • "realisticness"

Let me help you out there, the word you're searching for is 'realism'

  • lol

  • in reference to nasa comment, still no proof of life on mars,thats because they,re all here(-;

  • i like the quote from NASA - Still no proof of life on Mars - clever

  • Absolutely Super 10+++++++++++++

  • Amazing! Fantastic, thank you for making these!

  • awesome :)

  • Great!

  • Wow!! I'm going to see this on 21st June this year at the 02 year. Can't wait.

  • ** JEALOUS**

  • luv this, it really does the musical justice

  • This is lovly! I heard Jeff Waynes music first when I was 4 year old.. I bow for you who made this video, fits good!

I bow for you! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!!!

  • yea nice 1, the graphiics work good with change of music... good work...

  • These Videos are amazing, very well done!

  • Brilliant! *****

  • Nicely done... very immersive

  • The dvd is completly different

  • Superb!

  • better than spilburgs, someone who knows their WOTW history,

    5 *'s to your work

  • Yeah I agree!

  • hell yeh!!!

  • lol'd at google earthxD

  • Very good, the 'restless, haunted sleep' bit i thought was particularly effective, though i have to ask, if this is set contemporaneously would the narrator have a moustache like that? But no matter! I agree with comments below, i first heard this album when it came out, i was about three years old and this was the bit that terrified me the most

  • theres a machinima version of this called war of the servers, its based off jeff waynes version strongly but this part is one of my favourite parts

  • hi! compressedfilms!?! i have the jeff waynes version on vinyl atill-and hav to say well done mate luv it!!!!

  • that red thing is fucking creepy. every minute i look behind my computer chair. lol

  • Hey this is an awesome work! Keep it up!

  • outstanding

  • This is the creepiest bit of music on the album

  • true, it is. this is a good series hey?

  • Great stuff. The only thing I don't like is the way the aliens look, but that's just my opinion.

  • From the album.

  • Excellent. This was obviously put together by a mind far superior than ours, hang on. You aint one of, oh my god, as i live and breathe, Or not. No seriously, You are very talented and i enjoyed part 1 & 2 greatly.

  • Absolutely brilliant, thanks everso much for taking the time to put this together. I thought the mix of visual styles and graphics really brought a hypnotic quality - the almost subliminal flashes of insect bodies emphasised the sheer alien-ness of the Martians. The internet flashes were perfect, quite convincing in fact. 10/10.

  • i was thinking aliens going cute little green octopusses

  • Again, a great job.

  • Good things are ALWAYS worth waiting for!! Brilliant talent Richard - thanks a million for your dedication to telling a wonderful story. I have had Jeff's album since day one and there is nothing like sitting in the loungeroom with the lights off and listening (and now watching) your wonderful performance. P

  • Nasa : "Still no evidence of life on Mars"

    LoL

    Nicely made tough

  • Those poor Sky News pilots didn't have a chance in hell.

  • Nice use of Google Earth, my man. The only complaint of this part is of the Martian itself. It looked so lifeless, almost like a doll. Other than that it was a masterpiece.

  • I agree. The Martian wasn't exactly a work of art, like all the other stuff, but the video was still awesome.

  • Btw, when I said "Like all the other stuff" I meant the Martian didn't compare to the other stuff, to prevent any misunderstandings.

  • plan on watching all of them great work i have loved war of the worlds sinse a boy this must be my fav song "chapter"

  • Don't know how you did that, and never will!

    but well done its brilliant!

  • this was awesome! You have a great talent!

  • Very Good! I look forward for many more parts of it! And good work for keeping Modern, and in Sync with Jeff Wayne's And H.G Wells' Version of The War of The worlds!

  • it is animation you can't rush it

  • oh bring on parts 3& 4

  • Very good to see you actually used images of the real horsell common! I live just across the road from it... literally, such a strange place... random sandpit in the middle of the woods, but its fed my imagination since I was a child, imaginging the martian invasion. Brilliant video, looking forward to the next one :)
