@schumachertimesrossi Competing is not about should/ would/ could, and about "deserving" things, it is about what actually happens. I am a Kimi fan, but if Alonso did better, oh well... So don't bring up this "deserve championship crap".
and what makes a driver deserve the title more than another? I don't understand how kimi deserves it more just because his car broke down more...Yeah he would have won if his car had been more reliable but it goes both ways. What if the R25 wasn't so slow? What if it could more closely match the mclaren in speed? Would kimi have won so easily? You can play the "what if" game for both sides. Given alonso made less mistakes than kimi in 2005 then this is the only reason
ive got bad news for formula 1 fans. "At a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in December it was announced F1 would switch from the current 2.4 litre V8s to 1.6 litre, four cylinder turbo units to make the sport more environmentally friendly."
Just to edit my last comment, pole time for vettel - 1:23.5, Schumachers pole time - 1:24.4, todays F1 car in quali trim is nearly a second faster than the last fastest generation of cars
For evryone saying 2011 cars are slower, did you see the pole time vettel did in Melbourne? Not far off Schumachers pole of 2004, they might be slower on the straights, but the are much better in the corners now, even without tc and aero flaps stuck all over.
@AmicableJudgeRhino That is just sad isn't it? F1 has indeed gone backwards...and brace for an even slower circus this year...personally, i don't mind less overtaking in F1...just put more speed into it. 400km/h please. The no tyre change regulation was stupid in 2005, and now with the no-refueling rule it's even stupider, watching f1 cars go at the pace of gp2 quali pace...idiots at FIA should be 'iced' for being such complete morons.
@beqa16v comment circa 1st June 2009: "There are lot of people in Britain who hate Lewis and his father"
Yeah there is their called rascist bigots!
Hamilton is a much quicker driver than Button and can get more speed out of car which is off the pace- whereas button needs a perfect car to get the best out of it-fact. I'd rate button on a par with Damon Hill, I'd rate Hamilton on a par with Nigel Mansell.
you can clearly see the power these v10s have over the v8s by just looking at the loooong gear ratios.... he accelerates with 6th gear to 322kmh and shifts to 7th gear which acts as an overdrive gear, and he still accelerates to 330kmh... now with the v8s and super close gearboxes, cars manage just 312kmh at 7th gear rev limiter...
I'd say Turkey is the only good newer track. Bahrain is awful, China is good when it rains, but as a track, its terrible. Abu Dhabi was severly overhyped - its no better than the others. Korea is even worse, and dare I say it, that India will be an even more boring circuit? Of course it will.
Singapore + Valencia dont count as new circuits, because (thankfully) Hermann Tilke didnt design the layout - it was already decided. All he did was "assist" with route planning but tbh Valencia is so so
From a F1 statistics site. Most laps led in a season, and world champion the same year? Yes, happened in 1990-1991-1992-1993-1994-1995-1996-1997-1998-1999-2000-2001-2002-2003-2004
Didn't happen in 2005. Kimi led 375 laps. Alonso 336.
3 easy wins were snatched out of Raikkonen's hands. Imola, Nurburgring and Hockenheim. That's 30 points. 10 wins.
Let's just grant Raikkonen 2 wins (N-ring was part his own fault).20 points+. Alonso would have 4 pts less. Kimi 132,Alonso 129
@McLarenMercedes - And then you have to take into account that the renault was much slower than the mclaren so when Alonso loses by only 3 points you can easily say Alonso is a much better driver than Kimi Raikkonen.
@MegaMrDamo I agree, apart from Malaysia. I know everyone raves about that big long corner but essentially Turkey, along with Bahrain and Shanghai (Dry) have brought really dull races...
I loooove the way the old V10s sound. Absolute sheer power. Looking back i've noticed how Adrian Newey really pushed the envelope while designing cars, they are quick but fragile. You see it in the 05-06 McLarens and you currently see it in the RBRs
another example: on the last lap of the british gp raikkonen did the fastest lap wichh was over a second faster than any body eles.. its a shame the mclaren was so unrelieable but nevertheless it was one of the best seasons ever..would be great to see the v10s back on future
on some tracks this car was over halv a second faster than any other car in the field.i remember a situation when raikkonen got pole position with twice as much fuel as the 2nd car (i think it was monza) in the first races of 2005 season where there was 2 qualifing sessions (that changed later)the first one without fueland everybody saw the mclaren was absolutely the fastest car
well I think the engine was pretty reliable that year. It was just the things AROUND the engine that kept breaking. Driveshafts, transmissions, bearings, etc. Although he may have had an engine quit on him a couple times in practice req. a 10 place grid penalty he still stormed thru the field. Really if he'd won in San Marino, and Germany (Hockenheim and Nurburgring) he would have walked with his first title
That's because up until 2008 the cars had Traction Control, so you could stomp on the throttle out of a corner. In 2008/2009 the drivers have to be more gentle on the throttle or risk spinning.
No i dont think he sucks and he is known for his throttle control skills and driving technique is one of the best. The downside is that he needs a really good car engineer to help him with the setup.
Does it really? I like many drivers on the grid. I am a mclaren fan. I've always thought kimi was overrated. I think he's good but he's not as good as all you raikkonen fans preach.
I think Hamilton is the most overrated or at least was. He had so much british propaganda behind him. A media product. So much arrogance and stupid pride. It is funny how all this artificial image, the house of cards has collapsed. Happy for Jenson really he deserves much more than Lewis was getting in terms of media attention and respect. There are many British who hate lewis and his daddy and I have yet to see person with the same attitude towards Jenson.
No shumacher was done.YOU have to remember he was like 37 years old. Kimi had nothing to do with his retirement. kimi drives like shumacher, really? lol. Why isn't kimi dominating then like shumacher did, if he's a younger and better version of him?
schumacher is unable to win in 2005 because of Aldo Costa's involvement.
Kimi has never driven a Byrne car so therefore he is unable to repeat the success and you have to understand it took schumacher 4 years to get the team and Byrne to their team to dominate the championship.
and i was really referring to the driving style of them not luck LOL.
Juan-Manuel Fangio was 5 time world champion in F1. He won 24 out of 51 starts, which still is the best win to races contested ration ever.
He won his 5'th and last title in 1957 aged 46. Beating guys like Hawthorn, Moss, Brooks, Collins, all top drivers in their 20's.
George Foreman was heavy weight boxing champion in 1994, aged 45. The oldest heavy weight champion ever. Big George could still hit really hard though...
both with very dominant cars though. they only had thier teamates (a rookie, and a driver who didnt like the active suspension in the williams in 92) for opposition. both great drivers though
You should probably ask the guys at Mclaren about Raikkonen's TC use, he was one of the least TC using drivers on the grid back then. I think he and Jenson were the two drivers who used it the least.
Watch Raikkonen's Imola 2005 pole lap, you can hardly hear it. Also, Istanbul is a very slippery circuit, so it's not the best example.
No lol, they just had to stop development for about three different systems (including the brake system) due to them being identical to the Ferrari versions found in the dossier....
FO110R is the best sounding engine of all time. Ever. it had a 1mm longer stroke compared to others(one contributing factor why it sounded to heavenly) so it wasnt the most powerful but it had the most torque and was the easiest to drive. too bad the car was unreliable
coulnd agree more!!! these underpowered and boring sounding v8's are a disgrace!! mastering a nearly 1000hp in a rear heavy car is what takes real talent.
Yes! The V10 were great, and incredible fast. Technically the F1 had really a passion when they had those speeds. Watch the videos from Monza when the accelerate out of the Parabolica...just incredible fast. Or handling these rear heavy monsters in monaco... great!
Well, actually I don't totally agree with you. Even though the MP4/20 is my personal fave, I think "The best car never to win a Championship-title" goes to the McFerrari, the MP4/22! Luckily justICE prevailed and Kimi is finally champion!
In this lap, Kimi made some MP4-20 was incredible....

A shame though that the Mercedes engine in 2005 was the most powerful, but not reliable enough.
If Mercedes had focussed more on reliability with their engine, McLaren could've easily won both titles.
They had the best car and took 10 wins that year, and would've won at least 13 if it weren't for their engine breaking down.

No lol, they just had to stop development for about three different systems (including the brake system) due to them being identical to the Ferrari versions found in the dossier....

V10 = MONSTER
V8 = PUSSY
Bring back V12's, V10's and TURBOS then we'll see some excitement.

FO110R is the best sounding engine of all time. Ever. it had a 1mm longer stroke compared to others(one contributing factor why it sounded to heavenly) so it wasnt the most powerful but it had the most torque and was the easiest to drive. too bad the car was unreliable

BRING BACK THE V10s!!

coulnd agree more!!! these underpowered and boring sounding v8's are a disgrace!! mastering a nearly 1000hp in a rear heavy car is what takes real talent.

Yes! The V10 were great, and incredible fast. Technically the F1 had really a passion when they had those speeds. Watch the videos from Monza when the accelerate out of the Parabolica...just incredible fast. Or handling these rear heavy monsters in monaco... great!

AMEN!

Well, actually I don't totally agree with you. Even though the MP4/20 is my personal fave, I think "The best car never to win a Championship-title" goes to the McFerrari, the MP4/22! Luckily justICE prevailed and Kimi is finally champion!
