  • the IT crowd theme? ;)

  • This is awesome..my son found this video for me to watch..I love it ..those were the days..:)

  • Reminds me of Need for Speed: Carbon. Good old days..

  • 104 numptys are not electric friends, this is still ultra great after 31 years is it.

  • nice job, fits very well

  • saw him in Deeside (1979),a shit hole of a place in the UK , Mancs.Scousers and boyos (welsh ) rucking amongst themselves, typical brits always fighting , and Numan is a Southern lad ... Happy memories from a nostalgic Brit ...

  • Classic song. Takes me back to being 17 and madly in love with Gary Numan!

  • Awesome tune!

  • Aha "Sugababes: Freak Like Me" (2002) wow! .-)

  • I think i like The Dead Weathers cover better but this version is still really awesome!!

  • I still have the 7 inch picture disc of this song.

  • @liverpoolbellend , You are a luky bastard!

  • Always a great memory of mine is going and seeing him at Wembly... my first and only time.. brilliant.. also great as I had a sneaky day off work... very daring for 18 year old me..

  • good job mate dont retouch it youve captured it all

  • Memories are made of this, lost my cherry to this tune. Oh to be 15 again

  • this was a bowie type change in music for my time

  • @pikecordoba What Bowie is a freak....Gary Newman....New Man....nuff said...

  • @pogsboo You can't possibly compare the two. Numan was an obvious talent but only for a short time. Bowie was a pioneer who wrote, directed and heralded a new era. From his early albums in the late sixties up until Diamond Dogs, was a musical enlightenment!

  • @tom19560000000000000 You maybe right, but remember Gary Numan (Gary Webb) is the pioneer of the sci-fi when it comes to music videos. He introduced the androgynous looks to music videos. The fact of the matter is being different is what is important.

  • @pikecordoba Bowie old Wave.....Gary Newman New Wave,,,,,,,

  • i played this album until the vinyl cracked...favorite from another day...

  • fab

  • king of electric ist kraftwerk meiner Meinung..obwohl Gary hat was magisches.

  • Numan is the King of Electric.

  • Gary Numan is a SPERG

    I still love him though

  • Need For Speed Used This!

  • Went to see Numan 4 times in the Eighties. Still the best. Great memories. Love the Eighties

  • In '79 we were used to 3 guitars, drums, & keyboards. Then this came on the radio & whaoooooooooo! everything changed.

  • Großartig!!! super amazing song its defiently every up lifting and powerful =] thanks for the post!

  • i loved her with my batteries charged.

  • fantastic track takes me right back to my school days :)

  • i remember

  • no music NEEDS a video. As a matter of fact most videos have nothing to do with the song. Many video concepts are shopped around to various artist and if they agree then that video is attached to that song, I mean WTF is up with that? Most videos are silly at best. There was a time when there were NO videos and people got along quite well used a thing call their imagination to tell them what the song meant to THEM. *rant over sits the fuck back down* lol!

  • Need For Speed: Carbon <3

  • i remember jamming to this in the 70's now its on caron. i dont even need to turn up the sound on my tv now... gary numan fever.

  • This is an amazing video!! I've linked it on one of my videos which is also titled Are Friends Electric? :D

  • Großartig!!!

  • Dude, no offence, but this doesn't need a video :-0), but, hey, I'm watching it, although some of it's a bit Love Will Tear Us Apart, if you know what I mean.......

  • nice work, looks very eighties, very dark, like it was in that era

  • I thank my dad for playing this to me as a kid :)

  • Works really well. Nice one.

  • The Master!!!

  • Nice!

  • An excellent combination of videography and Are Friends Electric. Well done for your promotion, garycee.

  • WELL ARE THEY

  • 1979 ... No YT, no fu..ing MTV or VIVA, but some old transistor ... "... friends ..." saved the vacation in swedish forests.

2011 ... "... friends ..." still is my undisputed champ when it comes to prophetic tunes, composed and performed by a mostly understimated musician ... that is, outside the UK, i should say.

Thanks so much for this! Great job you did, and abt. 1.8 million views by now is the acknowledgement you (and Numan's "Tubeway Army") for sure deserve!

  • this song always reminds me of Need For Speed : Carbon lol. great song! good work too!!

  • fantastic work ...a big thums up ..much love ann

  • Thumbs up if your the Fonze

  • thumbs up if you fuckin hate thumbs up requests

  • das ist großes Kino!

  • Thumbs up if your an asshole who does thumbie up on command.

  • @bolderiks Unlike you though we don't stick the thumb up our own arse, and I bet you sniff it as well.

  • @wisetrucker fish hooked

  • NFS ?;D

  • This song is older than me but idgaf, I'm in love with it<3

  • Blimey... I'm impressed that this music continues to move and inspire after around 30 years. I would want to big send a nod to highlight Paul Gardiner's effortlessly great bass playing . Saw GN on the Telekon tour in Coventry with 'me great mate John C' after my first ever gig seeing the Human League.

Great that the creativity and diversity that was around then is being recognised by around 1.8 million views....

Trois Gymnopedie and the awesome Complex are well worth hearing too.

    Nice Vid BTW

  • can someone send me a link for gary nuram being still plz thats one of my goals before i die and im 17 and i like gary nuram

  • wELL DONE

  • i can play this and cars on the keyboards

  • tubeway army ultravox great days

  • amazing song, and amazing video mate! thank you.

  • Anyone hear because of Ray Mears?

  • don't remake the video! doesn't everybody think the reworked Star Wars originals are tacky?

  • I brought me here because I love this song...

  • saw a made up video on old grey whistle test a good few months before it was released ,it was old footage from old black n white silent movies , i loved it straight away but couldnt get it until released, i would love to see that old footage again from o.g.w.t

  • god! this is amazing! i wish pop music was this good these days! im 15 so ive grown up with nothing but crap in the charts! such a shame!

great job on the vid! :D

  • k cider brought me here.

  • Fringe brought me here.

  • @Demonix696i best show ever!

  • I re-did it for you

  • If only today's pop music was this inventive, creative, interesting and catchy

  • brilliant song love this nice job with the vid garycee

  • I remember recovering from an illness of this year and listened to this album non stop I already was a fan of Kratfwork, Tangerine Dream, and early synth stuff this album just put a more commercial spin on all of that. Still love it today.

  • basher are you there its mark appleby we loved gary numan do you remembeer

  • i still love this song now,i love gary numan, love all his stuff old and new! but them women backing singers did spoil some of his songs, and gary numan his awsome live! numan gets better and better!

  • 102 people got an electric shock when they played this :) and there's plenty more where that came from let me tell ya!!!!! i was not born until march 86 but man i love all this, bollerks to the crap we have today.

  • ...this is probably the 1st piece of music as a young boy that really made me take notice. To this day I still regard this tune as simply awesome!! This led me to exploring other styles of music, rock being the main style, but this is still a guilty pleasure, and takes me back to my 1st days of getting into music. Simply fantastic, and still better than most of modern music being churned out on that conveyor belt of shit !!

  • @coltsuperocean10 Me too! I was 10 and loved this - number one for four weeks says Wiki, so got to hear it on TOTP for a month. M' dad hated it! Ten. Wow. Thirty two years ago. In 1979, thirty two years ago was 1947: The Andrews Sisters, Doris Day, Frankie Laine (watch?v=9nTdZopEyu8) Wonder how Gary sounds to kids of today.

  • Please give us more - this is one of the best "productions" I've ever seen! Absolutely great interpretation - +++

  • fucking awesome brother i remember this when i was a small chap

  • Friends 'electric ' in the sense they, like, switch on or off whenever it suits Them?

    That sounds 'bout right.

  • nice pacing with the camera walk... fits well :D

  • Maybe isolation is the only true human condition?

Women break my f*g heart over n' over.

  • @svecter no maybe about it... despite our tendency to clot together, we exist pretty much in our own little realities... therefore making forever redundant the bold claim that no man is an island... Gazza just likes to talk about it :D

  • @thalidomidedog Accurate indeed ~ so just imagine ( Jon Lennon style) wouldn't it be great if one fine day we discovered uncovered what are looking for ( intense sense of satisfaction / gratification ) actually exists within us..... individually.

Every day you wake up autofeeling open up yr heart happyshiny, instead of like shit.

Nice idea isnt it ? And the pursuit of that idea is called the spiritual search.

Trouble is, no one seems to be getting there , either , even after 40 f*ing years.

  • @svecter oh, but don't forget Greed, it's our defining moment/emotion... we are all over that shit here...

  • U did well

  • Thumbs up if you knew this the first time around.

  • @pm966 1979 =)

  • @pm966 Yes I knew it first time round too.

  • you gave lite were there was not...

  • hihi let me show you how far i can go

  • 1.7 M clicks awesome but 102 people dont like old good musik

  • with close to 2 million views - you have done well - it actually takes you back to the days when music videos weren't a "given" - like it - 1 million stars!!!

  • I can except being 50 years old knowing i was around when this classic first came out thanks Gary

  • Such brilliance hasn't been around for many years. Makes you glad that you grew up in the 70's.

  • Thumbs up, if the Sugababes brought you here! :)

  • sounded so futuristic to me as a kid! and actually it is 2nite again. great song.

  • gosh i dont know what i feel when i hear this but, its a feeling i don't get with any other... its a combination of joy and magic.

  • will still be a classic in 50 years time.

  • Simply Awesome! I watched Gary on TOTP in '79 and was completely blown away. Have been a devoted fan ever since. For me GN is god!

  • Great song and create video goth-black&white images. I also like the other live version from "The Old Grey Whistle Test" show circa 1979; regards.

  • wow what a powerful tune

  • Never ever tire of this. Bob on.

  • brilliant video!! might as well be the original!

  • Thumbs up if you get this from NFS carbon

  • @WarmeKarnemelkDesign my favorite song from NFS Carbon, I turned off all the other songs for a while and just listened to this.

  • @fredfredburgerdude Oh me too(A)

  • @WarmeKarnemelkDesign Ironically, i heard this on carbon not realising my dad was a massive fan, then one day he saw me playing it and saw gary numan on the music player and was like o.O

  • great track. tasty vid

  • number one for gary numan

  • I am 20 years old. God if I was only 8 years younger I would be a top comment. Very vivid magnetic song. Friends are cannibalistic Gary No ONE in this world can ever be electric. But you can zap them with the electric chair.

  • sluit je ogen en geniet

  • i was 12 when this came out...omg i still love it.Gary Webb is gorgeous mwah.

  • what ever happened to the good olds 80s, dam hate getting old
