  • Well that could be my favorite live performance of all time: the dynamic between them is pretty amazing. I'm aware that Yorke doesn't swing that way, but there's no doubt that Stipe wouldn't mind it ;-)

  • I was born in the wrong decade! :(

  • I was born way too late!

  • screw patti smith!!!! thom killed her part

  • Great performance. Yorke certainly has Stipe beaten vocally though..

  • @KleWdSide They're doing two completely different parts, and they have completely different voices too.

  • onore alla musica!

  • cant believe its the end of r e m

  • This is so exciting to see. I loved those two days, so nice to be able to relive them for a few minutes!

  • This song touches me every time i hear. I feel like im loosing a friend with REM breaking up. Goodbye

  • This is so damn good, especially thom's climax. It really gives me goose bumps

  • I love this

  • That isn't going to help the Tibetans. What we need to? do is invent some kinda new super weapon that can kill everyone in China then tell the Chinese 'get the fuck outta Tibet or you're gonna get it'. Singing a bunch of songs to a loada stoned neo-hippies isn't going to do any good...even if they are great songs like most R.E.M songs are.

  • @Stube437 Yeah, but what can a singer do ? Useless, but still something.

  • @Cricriiii A singer can run for political office. Dn't fight the power...become the power.

  • @Stube437 That's the attitude that got the world into world war 1 and 2, heck, that's the attitude that got us into every war that the world has ever known... grow up dude

  • @boondockscar yeah...I think you took me a little bit too literally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Stube437 Mmh i think you're right XD Might have missed the sarcasm there :P apologies!

  • Wow here I am again 4 am...

  • Pair of cunts

Stipe saying, saw you winking at me, wanna nosh?

  • Thom yorke look happy singin with michael stipe and R.E.M xD

  • Ugh that guy is gross Bla

  • incredible

  • so much caring from stipe toward yorke... did you feel it?

  • @sacdecorsair Yes.feel it and seen it :-)

  • Why wasn't I at this? Radiohead, Pulp, R.E.M., everyone else all on the same day? Aaaah!

  • e-bow probably wasn't meant to be performed anywhere outside of a small room blanketed in blue christmas lights.

  • is he wearing women clothes?

  • @LordEizen yup looks good right

  • @breezy4852 haha to some i guess as long as he feels comfortable and keeps making good music

  • 1:24 Is that Muammar Gaddafi on keys?

  • @Coolshitdudes I believe you are right it appears to be Gaddafi. NATO and the UN should have looked for him in REM. Have heard the sad news that REM have split after 31 brilliant years together.

  • Great song but no sign of a fucking ebow!

  • @anonbeliever1 1:39 .. That's an e-bow =)

  • Excelentisimo!!

  • no ma!! se ve q son super amigos!!! mas q amigos!!! son hermanos carajoo!!!

  • I was there. The sound system at RFK Stadium was terrible that day. Still cool seeing Thom Yorke perform with R.E.M. (and Michael, Mike, and Peter perform with Radiohead the previous day).

  • Oh my god this is my favorite R.E.M., and Micheal Stipe and Tom York are two of my favorite vocalist ever. To cut it short I';m in heaven right now.

  • there some gr8 indie bands out there now, the national, i love doves also, rock on!!!!!!! lol

  • GREAT TUNE.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Agree with msbutterflydragon about the discussion of who's better. Really, who cares? (Also, just because one song is more complex than another doesn't mean it is better.) This is a great track. Michael and Thom sound great!!

  • Are you serious? with the message of this song all you got is who is better? Play nice, listen, learn.

  • in my opinion rem are better than radiohead! radiohead are a bit pretencious to say the least but they are v talented also just cheer up thom

  • @annie123454 you say that because you haven't covered both Radiohead and REM songs. Rh isi nfluenced by REM but their guitar lines are sometimes really complex , hard and so amazing, while REm's are delightful but yet a bit easy. Peter Buck likes to be oscillating around Em scale chords, while Radiohead variates a bit more.

  • @etejuanete3 rh music is defo more complex but everyone has diff taste and opinions about everything

  • @annie123454 yeah, and they're both my favorite bands

  • good song to drive

  • Ah a simpler time back when Thom Yorke would smile. But who can blame him? The 90's were an infinitely better time than now.

  • @ChopperJohn4 he still smiles... sometimes

  • I absolutely love this song, to me, it combines the modern R.E.M with these hints of their past, like Fables of the Re-construction meets Automatic for the People. YEAH! It's like eating Kung-Pao Chicken with a Guinness...it's ALL good mofos.

  • That's strange, I listened to this song the other day and thought to myself that Thom Yorke would be good as the backing vocalist, and KAPOW! - look what turns up on YouTube..

However I think he did lose control of his arms and legs after a while...

    Beautiful song.

@budwhite1 - REM are so much better than Coldplay, and unlike half of the American bands around in our time, their songs actually mean something more than the American dream.

  • love the song. love both bands. but is anybody else werided out by micheal's sex lines?

  • REM is the band! Thom is being Patti

  • @themooddisorders Patti?

  • @etejuanete3 Patti Smith, she did the thom vocals on the album

  • wow, just wow

  • My 2 fave bands, oh my!

  • voll die schwuchtel

  • Its great to see how much respect these two have for each other

  • I want thoms t shirt

  • u can see that at 5:31 thom gives mr. stipe a lil token of appreciation...

  • What a crappy sound!

  • @annie123454 He's REM's biggest fan. He would have been so honored to do this

  • @spongey222 ok thom york is talented but always got the impression he thinks he better than he is iv heard stories of him being rude and in my book tats arrogance there no need 4 tat thom cop on and be nice maybe its all tat depressing music he producing lol

  • @annie123454 hes not arrogant, hes just naturally reclusive......and if you think radioheads music is depressing you need to listen more because even though its not the most immeadiate music in the world, the real messages in their music can be found after multiple listens

  • @cillianc09 u must know him personally so, its just my opinion we're all entitled to that

  • @annie123454 sorry haha i just find it hard to believe that someone could find radiohead's music depressing

  • @cillianc09 radioheads first 2 albums i found brill then after that i found them depressing and trust me i know alot of people who think the same so i find your comments very patronising, your not right and im not right its a matter of opinion, sorry

  • @annie123454 sorry didnt mean to come off as patronising :P guess im a bit too strongly opinionated :/ sorry ha

  • @annie123454 i used to think that way but after a while, I stopped finding them depressing and started liking them, today I'm a huge fan, you should give it a chance, I think is easier to Radiohead fans to become REM fans than vice versa, mostly because Radiohead composes so different syles, and they are open to anything

  • It comes to show how much of an impact Thom has made if he seems to be more of a star than all of REM...

  • @MrISAACFACE u jokin!!!!!!!!!!!! or a fuckin idiot

  • @annie123454 Not saying he deserves it :P was just noticing the comments.

  • He wears a dress because he can.

  • Nie skomentuje jego stroju... ale całą resztę bardzo chętnie i bardzo na tak!!!

  • What is Stipe wearing?

  • this is great.

  • his voice after around 4 minutes is INSANE.

  • I know its totally out of place, but...

0:45 I just found the origin of the "Dick slang".

  • ARTE

  • Me vuela la cabeza.

  • Where is that Thom? :(

  • 2 class acts.

  • how was i not there ?? disappointed in myself...

  • Thom is such a beautiful creature. I could watch him sing all day.

  • dat skirt

  • haha if you have ever done acid you can clearly tell thom is trippin hard. could you imagine peaking while on stage with REM in front of thousands and thousands of people? unreal

  • this is amazingly amazing.

  • My nipples just stood up :o)

  • 5:24 It's kinda interesting to see how there's almost a kind of mentorship going on here from Michael to Thom. Stipe's been in the music game for about 20 years at this point and Thom is a relative newcomer, dealing with the waves of attention and --pressure-- brought by OK Computer. For instance, see the film Meeting People is Easy to get an idea of the wear and tear on Thom (and his bandmates, I'm sure, they're certainly not immune).

"I'm not here, this isn't happening", right Michael?

  • @pressstarttobegin What? R.E.M was formed in 1980 and Radiohead in 1985...I'd say Stipe can never be as genius as Thom.

  • @Mijicm Well, Thom did say at one point that Stipe pulled him out of a hole that he would never have been able to get out of otherwise. And he gave Thom the line that How to Disappear Completely is written around. So saying that he was something like a mentor to Thom isn't THAT far from the truth.

  • I love this song, and R.E.M. and Radiohead are two of my very favourite bands... but this didn't quite work live. I wish they'd done a studio version too.

  • LMFAO There's a chink in the lyric. I love this song! :)

  • Thom is f--- awsome, althoug, to get this guy, you may need a master degree...

  • we also madea small contribution to free Tibet.

    Watch:

    FREE TIBET (REM - Radiohead)

  • FREE TIBET!

  • Who the fuck disliked this video?

  • Oh my God. I could cry for this. Thanks for sharing.

  • thenoblequran (Ctrl+Enter)

  • Does anyone else think Thom is high as fuck?

  • @Ragnar0k951

    Not at all.

  • @Ragnar0k951 maybe, i don't listen to radiohead enough to distinguish whats normal for him lol. He deffinatley portrays himself that way though, which is what most musicians in his genre do. Also lets not be ignorant, drugs have played a huge role in developing great music.. ie. jimmy hendrix, nirvana, alice in chains, The Beatles, almost all great musicians do or have done drugs. Sorry to piss on Christian rock music but thats why it will never go anywhere.

  • @Ragnar0k951

No, I don't think so. He always acts strange when he gets into the music.

  • i wish i was born before 1994...

  • I love E-Bows! Infinite sustain!

  • REM one of the most under rated bands of all time. Their best stuff is not their most famous stuff. Listen to "Lifes Rich Pagent" it is killer awesome. True Story.

  • @robbieberbin How is REM underrrated? They are one of the biggest bands in the world today. How can they be underrrated when they have gotten the biggest recording contract in history? I'd hate to see what it would look like if they were overrrated. There wouldn't be enough people on planet Earth to make them overrrated.

  • For all the idiots watching this video: Michael Stipe is bi-sexual. He has said so in many an interview. For fucks sake, do some research and then you won't come off like ignorant dipshits.

  • @subsamadhi be cool, baby

  • wow i never new he was gay til i saw this video. still great music

  • I was at this show. THis was probably the highlight of the first day

  • i agree people should appreciate the music instead of focusing on the simplistic world of what we are and what we do fuck the simpletons grow up gay straight banana who cares

  • watch?v=46CNp89_52Y

  • everything is nothing when you're listening to Michael and Thom. I just wanna say: thank you

  • Thom Yorke is a class act.

  • thom was a bad ass character.

  • hehe thom is so fucking wasted ... love it

  • SHHHHHHHHH....thom is singing.

  • R.E.M. & Thom Yorke Heck yeah. Happy Bday Michael Stipe!

  • Thom looks so fucked up at the end... it's beautiful.

  • how easy could it be if everyone could wear and look as he wants, and nobody would care?!?!

  • genius

  • I love the sound e-bows make

  • truly amazing. Love it.

  • a better performance is this:

    youtube.com/watch?v=iPfbes3FNFI

  • not a good performance of this great song by REM, but it 's awesome having Thom sing "i ll take you over there"

  • I always felt this was one of the most underrated songs and albums from REM's repertoire

  • Thom is so great!

  • @SoVerySpecial101 I tend to forget you know, and then I come across one of these, or I get out an album and it hits me. he is unbelievable

  • OMG, Thom is SO into it at the end. I love it.

  • always a touch of heaven when REM - the Gods of my youth - and Radiohead - plain Gods. period. - share a stage. i can die happy now.

  • Wow, in the final minute, Thom starts sounding REALLY similar to Patti Smith. Impressive feat for a guy

  • Dude in a skirt is the hottest thing next to Thom Yorke.

  • I met Stipe right after the Monster tour here in Seattle outside their hotel, no one else around. He was quite a nice normal guy, I was told not to ask for an autograph but did so anyways. He became terrified when I did, but then calmed down. Odd sure, but overall he was quite a nice guy to chat with. I had heard at the time he refused to sign but nowadays he does. Mills and Berry were class acts as well, Buck went home after the concert as he lived here at the time.

  • uaaaa, Thom York is the best...awesome !!!!!

  • It's hard to say. Patti does a beautiful job. But I love Radiohead and this collaboration is perfect. Thom hits it. It's all good man, all good.

  • thank you thom xdxddx lol jajajajajaja

  • @jondy3 Good. No-one cares.

  • @jondy3 Yes, deeply. I couldn't sleep last night, was tossing and turning in bed having knightmares because I discovered you didn't like it. First thing this morning I went to see my doctor to get treated for depression... in fact, Im still wiping the tears of disappointment off my face because of your 'dagger to the heart' comment.

Or...maybe, just genuinely, didn't give a fuck whether you enjoyed this song or not. Go figure idiot.

  • Stipe's Sarong is very manly. Being confidant enough wear a sarong on stage is awesome. I wish you people could understand that.

  • Undrop & R.E.M are twins in a sad melancolic beautiful world.

  • hard to believe thom doesnt do any drugs after watching the end of this performance lol

  • @heyassmanx

He is not on drugs, he is just into it.
