I don't think its a question of being sophisticated or not, its more about a style of delivery. The US version is a sitcom, just like Cheers or Seinfield et al. But the UK version is different, it uses (at the time) unknown actors and has a real feel to it. Its so funny because people in the UK who have boring jobs are actually just like the characters.
@swingdocta I actually started watching the US version when it first came out, and yeah, I really liked it. last Christmas, I got the UK office box set, and I much preferered the UK version, the humor is more sophisticated, I can't imagine the US version ever being classed as a time less sitcom, I can't say the same about the UK version
@BenRyan95 deadpan humor does not equal more sophisticated imo. thats a big artistic misconception that just because something may seem more subtle then therefore it requires some intellectual superiority to "get it". You can understand the UK humor, while not being an intellectual giant
UK Office > US Office. And most British comedy series last only two seasons. Just because the US Office wants to milk it for more doesn't mean it's better.

Sorry to the all the people that like the UK version more. I tried watching it, but it doesnt compare at all to this one.
