Commander was supposed to be rehabilitated after that and get a promotion to a colonel's rank. And get a "normal" regiment.

there was this movie,on time of Christmas, an American squad and German squad are stranded from a snowstorm, they found shelter on a cabin occupied by a woman and his son. Even it is war, they all manage to eat together,share their stories and family, sleep together peacefully. After the storm they just split on their way like friends saying goodbye. This scene in this Russian movie reminded me that.

Ofcourse these kind of encounters happend too. Both sides are humans. I bet there were loads of German soldiers on the eastern front who didint want to kill prisoners. By that time the supply lines were cut. There was no other way to "take care of them" according to the German generals and Hitler. So letting them go was probably something very common since most soldiers in the regular companys understood that the war was lost. They knew the tides would turn at least...

there was this movie,on time of Christmas, an American squad and German squad are stranded from a snowstorm, they found shelter on a cabin occupied by a woman and his son. Even it is war, they all manage to eat together,share their stories and family, sleep together peacefully. After the storm they just split on their way like friends saying goodbye. This scene in this Russian movie reminded me that.

Ofcourse these kind of encounters happend too. Both sides are humans. I bet there were loads of German soldiers on the eastern front who didint want to kill prisoners. By that time the supply lines were cut. There was no other way to "take care of them" according to the German generals and Hitler. So letting them go was probably something very common since most soldiers in the regular companys understood that the war was lost. They knew the tides would turn at least...
