I disagree with him on certain issues, but he is undoubtedly a great man. I am angry however that my high school made Mountains Beyond Mountains a mandatory summer read. It was a good book, but the choice was obviously politically influenced.
I read mountains beyond mountains. I wish I had half the initiative that he does. Of course, part of the books message is that whatever my abilities, I should strive to make the world better. Its an exhausting yet uplifting message
i'm reading this book for college for an orientation seminar...this is an amazing book & an amazing man...i try so hard to change the world little by little and he has inspired me to try even harder =]

I have to read Mountains Beyond Mountains for summer reading for college. Omg, I'm on part 3 and so far the book has been so fucking tedious and boring.
I love and respect this man so much, he is a God-sent for medicine....I've read most of his books and if I hadn't I would have headed down the wrong path as a future doctor, rather negligent of structural violence under which the poor live in this country and the world, and that causes their death....his altruism is so genuine and his prose engaging.
Paul Farmer is amazing. It really takes a dedicated, selfless person to do what he does - isn't he speaking at the Health For All, Blue Diamond Inaugural Ball?
and BigPurple121, Dr. Farmer's accomplishments through Partners in Health are extremely admirable. Nothing about his work is haughty, egotistical, or selfish.
I hope that one day I can make that kind of an impact on the world.
I really like Mountains Beyond Mountains. Just amazing how he and his helpers were able to get around seemingly impossible problems when it comes to treating TB and HIV....
How are you? If you get the chance, read Mountains Beyond Mountains (a book about Paul Farmer) or Pathologies of Power a book by Paul Farmer. To put it mildly, he is a very cool guy. You might change your mind about him and you might even want to get involved in some sort of human rights activism.
Bigpurple121 = Phil Bredeson Location: United States is a shithead. he works for the ACLU Bigpurple is a thuig who supports buillying and abuse,. He lives in chicago.
silversmitty: the definition of self aggrandisement is: the act of making oneself more powerful, wealthy, etc., esp. in a ruthless way. Maybe you already knew the definition, but if you did you know nothing about Paul Farmer. He is the absolute opposite of that definition. I think you might be Sesquipedalianistic, you better look it up.
I read it too, this man is unbelieavable. But there is one thing that he says that is undeniable (and I paraphrase): if he wasn't constantly exposed to all the suffering in the Haiti, the question is whether he would continue. And he said it in the book: that is why he kept returning to Haiti to remind himself of the desparation and how much help is needed. We all tend to forget...
I wish there was more men like him in the world, Thank you Sir for having devoting your life helping the less fortunate, you are the modern day mother Theresa God bless you and keep you healthy for a long time.....
Paul Farmer is an inspiration. I cannot believe what one person's persistance brought about. I just read Mountains Beyond Mountains and I highly recommend it to all.
The man and his team have practicaly singlehandidly invented the most morally robust approach to heathcare...EVER! And, since it worked so well in Haiti & now in Rwanda, why not do the same in the USA!!!!!

Umm... to all of you people who are calling Paul Farmer "A duchebag" or whatever, I am not sure if you even know
1. Who he is and what he does
2. The meaning of duchebag
If you are saying mean things to this amazing man for no reason, I am guessing that you are jealous. How many people have YOU saved, BigPurple121?

silversmitty gets the vote of the week; Dr. Farmer's ego has prevented him from really helping these third world folq who sadly have IQ's of about 30.
These folq probaly don't even understand how children are created. That's why they have at least 10, usually 14 or 15.
