SOMEBODY HELP ME!!when im at a canter i keep losing my outside sturrup(sp.?) i asked about the length but my instrudtor says theyre ok but they dont feel rightT-T should i try different sturrup leathers altogether or do any of you think its something else, and YES i pride myself on keeping my heels down so thats not it : (
@mickeymouseluvaz it#s the way your distributing your weight unevenly, which could be for a number of reasons or it could be nerves, or it could be that your locking in with your calve... you couldnt really tell from just information is it on both reins you lose it?
@horseridingbabe588 no its just the outside sturrup its getting better. i used a different saddle today and it was WAY better. i need to work on it with the old one 'cause it fits my horse nicer, so ill just practice ALOT and hope im better by the show!!!
I usually put the stirrup length to my arm pit ( Put a fist right under the buckle(Where it is under the flap where you change the size) And measure until it hits your armbite like perfect. Keep pressure(I mean real hard pressure, your legs SHOULD hurt after the lesson wehn you keep pressure on your stirrups) And keep sitting in your saddle, keep your hands still and look where your going. Thats should help ^^ -QS444
Sometimes when a horse canters, they might pin their ears because of their effort they're putting into it, and also because the rider might being digging his/her knees into the saddle, and that hurts the horse! But I didn't see this rider do anything wrong!
Keep your heels down, with your weight in them and make sure the irons are on the ball of your food. And then use more calf muscles to squeeze the canter on than kicking.
hey you're question has probably been answered but you lose your stirrups probably becuase you're bracing yourself or you squeezing with you calves to much. when you get tense you legs lock up and the stirrups go flying because they are moving with the momentum of the horse same thing happens if you have to squeeze really hard. if you're horse is hard to get moving try just taking a crop along for the ride sometimes just having one present gets horses perkier since they's rather not get hit lol
OMG that happens to me every time (or it used to). Put the stirrups up a hole or two, toes up heels down (this can be hard when you're nervous or concentrating on something else) and just relax as much as you can. Focusing on a non moving object ahead of you can help keep your balance, and that will help to keep your feet in place.
I know how you feel. The horse i used to ride did that and I was scared of cantering for ages. I moved riding schools and it's so much better. I love cantering now. Like MKtitanic97 said; it is the best feeling! it's so flowing!
Just try to relax. The more you're scared the scarier it will get. When you worry, your body will get tense and that generally makes the horse more excited and fast and you will get tenser and then he will, and it's all down hill from there. Trying to relax is the best thing you can do!
Only thing it when you trot youre legs move back but it is quite hard in a 20metre cicrle but you corrected it in the canter mabye use a bit more seat but you will become a good lil rider
thats a beautiful horse but u need a better seat in your canter try sitting back a bit more and put your outside leg back top keep your rythm.keep your legs against the horse more too.
You look like a nice rider, but you need to lean back a little bit. By leaning Toooo forward it directs the horse to go faster, and if you sit back too much u will direct the horse to slow down. So try to keep your butt on the saddle. Pretend its glued. WORK HARD!! You are doing good. just needs a lil practice, Everybody needs that!
Yes i agree with evr1, mainly.. Keep ur bum more in he saddle and it will make it less confusing and easier ot ride also more comfortable.. Imagine ur on a swing even.. the motion u use when going forwards, how ur bum deepens... hard to explain.. but uhm gd job keep trying!
actually i thought it was good but you butt is bouncing all over the place. try to sit deep in the saddle and just relax. and lift your hands of the horses neck so your not irritating him. i think the horses ears were fine maybe a bird or somethin was bothering him.
You need to sit back more! you're WAY too far forward, and by doing that you are confusing you're horse and you will un-balance him!
Also, if you are doing a dressage canter then you need to sit on you're bum more! It's flying everywhere!! Try riding bare-back and cantering-it will deepen your seat!!!!
when a horses ears are back, it means they are listening to its riders aids, when they are flat back there is something wrong, you do lean forward a bit though
Beautifull!!!! Nice canter!!

that horse has a lovely canter. You looked good, except you were sitting too far forward so your butt came out of the saddle too much.
Other then that, great job :D
