Born in 89, I was along for most of Toonami's glorious ride. Though about 2 years after it went Saturday only I moved up to Adult Swim (back when that was still good), so I didnt experience the 4th Tom or its tragic end. Now I just get my anime from the internet. Not only did the fans get their hearts ripped out, but the US anime industry lost a prime (direct and/or indirect) source of income, and even more to fansubs.
As a kid, and even a teenager, I grew up with Toonami. There was no other show or collection of shows like it. I thought it was a great method of slowly introducing kids to the more serious and mature themes that they would have to face later in life, and Toonami had a very effective and gentle way of doing that. Cartoon Network has lost so much popularity over the years because it is cutting the classics and replacing them with shows that have absolutely nothing to do with animation.
@Snoofman Yeah I think our generation kind of depended on it. Not to sound all asskissy but...that little robot turned broadcasting cool and more mature-leveled shows into an art form. Nowadays half the shows on cartoon network aren't even cartoons. I pray for the kids of today...pray for them

And Disney (I always had issues with them) for jetX, sure there is disney XD, but it's not the same... It, put bluntly, sucks.
Nicktoons, I'm still ok with them since they brought back Invader Zim... But programs such as kappa mikey were pretty cool.

ALL of my friends watched cartoon network when they where kids, and mainly just toonami. The only kids who didnt didnt watch tv period. Cartoon network must have some terrible media analysts or whatever their called, cause i dont know how they think the shit they show now is popular. Its retarded uninteresting nonsense, even i as a kid would have recognized its garbage. Even the one good show they have now, symbiotic titan (genndy is a legend), they didnt renew. I think I vaguly recall seeing the first time, but I'm more familiar with TOM v2. TOM v3 was the best, though. TOM v4, however, was just plan crap. It's ironic, actually. It's like they new they were about to get rid of Toonami, so they changed TOM's appearance without any warning and made him unappealing in the process! Damn CN executives, thinking we'd be better off with stupid reality show crap...
Funny, though, I don't remember Moltar being the host.

then a few years ago im skipping channels and come across a Naruto movie on CN so i stop and its that weird looking thing (TOM 4) hosting and I'm like "WHO THE FUCK IS THAT!?" and then he called himself Tom and i said "TOM!? WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!"
The writing was on the wall already for Toonami's Demise when they came up with that design

I miss this so much...when it started i was so little, only 3, so i don't remember much. but i do remember when i got a little older and DBZ, Gundam, and all the other great shows were on. but there are still a lot of things i don't remember. i miss my early childhood, highschool is good and all but the back than was the best time EVER! :(

yeah toonami was great, but they turned it into adult swim which has gone to crap now. any good anime is now on nicktoons or disneyxd. you can't show anime on a kiddy network, they cut up all the fighting and put up back screens to cover up punching. CN should've kept Toonami for the sole reason of keeping it's heritage alive. Sure, TOM4 looked like a piece of God knows what, but it was still Tom. Now, they have crap shows like Adventure Time and Total Drama Island, a cash-in on modern shows; We have plenty of Survivor sagas on reality TV, do we really need a kid version? And Adventure Time? Really? That's like making Charlie the Unicorn for 8-year-olds. Wake up, Cartoon Network, wake up.
