  • I love that the Great Leslie ALMOST gets through the whole riot without so much as a speck!

  • Blake Edwards' last and greatest attempt to preserve what was once called "slapstick."

  • Too bad something like this couldn't have happened during the Queen's Jubilee.

  • Does anybody know the song that plays when max and leslie are in the castle raising hell? It sounds a bit like the confederate anthem, but also something else...

  • I halfway expected Slim Pickens and the cast of Blazing Saddles to pop up.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song played at the beginning of the race? I think it is from early 1900s and was written about frustrations with the invention of the automobile. Part of the lyrics are "get a horse, my friend." thanks

  • @mary34ism: I can't say for sure, but since Henry Mancini composed the music for this film, I can almost guarantee it is another tuneful original composed by him.

  • Nothing sexier than Natalie Wood wearing black pantyhose and a garter belt while covered in pie!

  • greatness, such inspiration i gef from this

  • Natalie Wood got drilled by about 10,000 pies in this scene.

  • Anybody hear a camera going off?

  • 6 people got bandished

  • this is one of the most funniest scene of all time....

  • I recently looked up 'The Great Race' on imdb. There's the option to look through photos, and it just made me love the film even more :P

For example, there's on picture of Jack Lemmon joining in with the dancers at Barocho (sp?), and one of him being cuddled by Tony Curtis...

Almost as epic as the film XD

  • @SpottyBlueSheep

    * one...not 'on' :)

  • Great performance with great actors...not to be seen nowadays...and special the beauty and grace of Natalie Wood..a really beautiful woman...look to her eyes...

  • 6 people got hit by pie

  • Jack Lemmon :D ♥

  • 3:44 - Yes. That is marriage right there.

  • Rest In Peace Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, Keenan Wynn, Arthur O'Connell, Vivian Vance and Blake Edwards.

  • @CaptKundalini They ALL died?

  • @DJDannyPhantum Yes, they have all passed away. The only major actor still alive from the movie is Peter Falk.

  • @DJDannyPhantum Actually...the only one who is still alive I think is Tony Curtis, and I actually think Jack Lemmon is still alive too. But Natalie Wood drowned and I know Peter Falk is dead...

  • @ColdInTheStudio T. Curtis-2010,N. Wood-1981, J. Lemon-2001,K. Wynn-1986... All gone, except Peter Faulk.

  • @louswire OH my god! I can't believe they're all dead! I seriously thought that Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis were still alive! And someone swore to me Peter Faulk was dead :( that makes me really sad

  • Brandy!!.....Throw more brandy!!

  • lmao how original

  • I remember the first time I saw that pie fight scene when I was 4, and I'd been trying to find it since, though it took me until I was 15 to find the name of the movie where it came from. RIP Blake Edwards, I enjoyed watching this movie. The scene I also remember was when the king said "General!" "Splat!" Lol.

  • If it's one thing I learnd from Blake Edwards it this: never utter the phrase "You Wouldn't Dare!" in a room full of pies :)

  • Best pie fight ever R. I. P. Blake Edwards X

  • Goodbye brilliant Blake Edwards, we loved your work.

  • Good clean messy fun.Natalie wood looks good enough to eat!

  • i just saw this like two minutes ago! it couldnt stop laughing im absolutely in love wit this movie!

  • Terrific, simply terrific, they just don't make movies like this anymore. Thanks for posting and bringing back some great memories.

  • As the Professor/King!

  • I am 18 and I have seen this film since I was 4 years old and I still LOVE IT.

I would have it at my wedding and my funeral.

  • 2:46 XD thanks for uploading!

  • My Family Attended the permier of this movie due to the fact that my Grandpa's bakery made all the pies and that giant cake that Jack Lemon falls into at the begining of this scene. The Gaint cake was made out of saw dust.

  • @M6zealot1 yeah, okay!

  • @M6zealot1 Yeah, and my cousin made the cars. I don't know if our family attended the premiere, though.

  • @M6zealot1 no kidding! Does your gramps have any other stories from the pie fight? It's one of my favorite scenes from the movie.

  • @M6zealot1

And what a magnificent job your Grandpa did! :>

  • @M6zealot1 how many pies was that and how long did it take for him to make them?

  • @M6zealot1 really thats so amazing!

  • @M6zealot1 you're one of my new favorite people :)

  • 3.54

"Hey professor, where are you?" xD

  • Wouldn't Alan Rickman be great in a remake of this?

  • @imjunipernow how so?

  • @imjunipernow With all due respect, I think any remake of this classic would be a great disrespect to the brilliance that it was. There are some movies that could never be remake and to try would be a crime.

  • 1:25

PLEASE! I want a pie throwed at me!

  • You're banished, banished, banished, banished XD 3:21

  • jack was one crazy mf:) tony couldnt act for sh it...but such lovable guy:) may you both rest in peace

  • R.I.P. Tony Curtis

  • I think this is honestly one of the funniest things I have seen, I cried laughing!! Definitely getting this movie now- Jack Lemmon is genius! XD

  • this was and still is a great movie, they don't make em like this anymore

  • Brandy! Through more brandy! through brandy! best pie fight eva jack lemmon is a legend

  • What could be hotter then Natalie Wood covered with pie? Nothing I know of...

  • I wonder how many times they had to film this scene? or they got it right the 1st time?

  • @keravankauhu It took several takes. I believe they took pictures of how the room looked each time they stopped and replicated it each time.

  • @ZeldaQueen64 how could you know that? You have any bonus features for this movie?

  • @BlackChriztmaz I read the trivia section on IMDb. There's a good bit of info there.

  • Comment removed

  • @BlackChriztmaz Continuity purposes. I don't think that they just started over from the beginning every time they needed a break.

Actually, go to Wikipedia and read the article on The Great Race. There's an entire section on how they filmed the pie fight.

  • @ZeldaQueen64 I see, so they didnt start again, they did it once and then kept the look. Your right, that would have been a lot of baking.

Might try and put this on in memory of TC

  • HHAAHAHAH haeaeeeeeheeaaa BRANDY

  • R.I.P. Tony. This brings back great memories and to many this is a forgotten film, but I am proud to say I saw this on a huge screen here in New Jersey. Great actors and films gone but not forgotten.

  • @NJshoreDJ

Yep, me too. What a classic.

  • Good-by Tony Curtis, thanks for the memories. Another one of the great actors from a by gone era passes on to the other side.. As a kid I loved watching Tony Curtis movies, he always seemed so cool. I love this scene from The Great Race. Tony is Cool, Jack Lemmon is hilarious, and Natalie Woods looks pretty good in cream pie.

  • Loved you in this Tony Curtis - made me giggle as a little 'en and nothings changed. RIP

  • PUSH THE BUTTON, MAX!!!!!

  • I loved this film as a child and it is wonderful to see this talented cast again, when they were young and in their prime. I think Jack Lemon's true talent was for comedy though he seemed to take more dramatic roles. Loved how Tony Curtis managed to walk through the room of flying pies without being hit. Thanks for the post!!!!

  • did anyone else notice that when the second man that fell the big cake was new again?

  • GET YOUR PIES FOR THE GREAT PIE FIGHT!!!

  • @fundude365 a line from Blazing Saddles!!

  • The pie scene was something i never forgot about since i was 4. Even though it took me until i was 15 to find out what the name of the movie was and see it again.

  • I remember this scene from when i was 4. I asked my dad more than once to tell me where the pie fight scene came from, he didn't understand what i was saying until i was about 15 he finally told me it was from The Great Race. I never forgot the part when i was 4 the scene where the king said General! and than me and my dad said splat together. I've been trying to find this movie for years and my dad got it at last on dvd. He had it on vhs before but i didn't know that.

  • Quite possibly one of the greatest double performances in film history by Jack Lemmon.

  • I love how Leslie stays absolutely spotless untill DuBois accidently smashes him in the face with the pie.

  • Would love to see the out-takes. I guess someone has them somewhere.

  • HEY PWAFESSUH!

  • Oh!!!! Oooh!!! Hey Professor!!!! Where are ya? RIGHT HERE YOU IDIOT!!!

  • Shame all those pies had to cover up Natalie and those wonderful legs in stockings. The Three Stooges would have been proud, with this pie fight!

  • brandy throw more brandy !!!

  • yes!

  • I just how the Great Leslie can stand in the middle of the this and not get hit by one pie until the end. I just love this movie!!!!

  • Great actors..and outstanding performance...the cream pie fight...wooow what a joy...but also you can see the beautifull Natalie Wood...

  • throw me some apple!!!!!!!! IM IN DESPIRIT NEED OF PIE!!!!!
