I agree with the statement of not "preaching in prayer." You're not preaching a message to people; you're communicating with God. We don't question when to talk to other people or not. When do we talk to them? When is it appropriate? When you have something to communicate or a response is required. It's the same in praying during worship: "Should something be communicated to God? Is a response required?"
Question: Why is shorter worship better? I'm not quite clear on this.
" short's always better'? not sure if I agree with that. How about we praise and worship according to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and not put such strict time limits on it. Exhortation is important in leading as well as prayer. If there is a " Selah" moment that should be fine as well.
I thought he meant prayers are better short, not the worship. i.e. he was elluding to the fact that it's not a good idea to ramble as he reiterated when he mentioned you're not supposed to give a sermon. Just my thoughts. :)
@worshipper26 well based on my experience in being in a worship group, sometimes we play repeat the songs so many times in one service that it gets boring and people just get bored of singing the same song. so i think its better for it to be short and sweet. i think its better if you leave the audience wanting for more instead of not wanting to hear the song again.
I personnaly think that one of the Best thing we can do in this life is to be a Worship Leader or to do worship before God Almighty thru Jesus Christ. It's the most beautifuly thing we can do for Him. I will forever praise Him.
My personal opinion is that worship songs are nothing more than prayers with music. You choose and sing songs that carry forth the message you want to bring to God and that's all there is to it. Therefore, praying during worship should be almost liquid, a natural thing to do, a part of the flow
True, the traditions of Churches may differ and we ought to respect those that God put above us. I think all we can do is pray and work with what the Lord grants us =)
i am a worship leader and we pray before we start songs but, it's a youth group and they don't always respect God especially the new ones so i gotta keep it short. by the way I'm 13 so don't hate on me to hard :)
amazing! i'm 17, and also leading worship. what we young people probably need to remember is that God has no qualms about using people regardless of age. "Let no man despise our youth, but be an example..."
Sorry, Paul, but I have a problem with the first thing you said. "It depends on your tradition..." It seems to me that anytime words are spoken (or sung) or an action is taken on account of the Lord, it's a form of prayer. Your eyes don't have to be closed and your hands don't have to be folded, but every time you're worshipping during a service it's prayer, and a good worship team leader will help the team reocgnize that.
I believe Paul is referring to spoken word form of prayer, which we all generally call "praying" or "to pray." I understand your point clearly, and I agree, only I would word it differently - everything action taken on account of the Lord is Worship. Prayer is the notion of speaking to God, while Worship, by definition is expressing God's worth.
And I do think it depends on a church's tradition or way of doing things; every individual is different and worships differently...(more to say)
..every individual is different and expresses their heart to God differently which is one reason why we have so many different churches for people to choose to go to. When you have a congregation and leadership who feels a method of action is the highest of praise, worship, and respect to God, it's important to comply and help to grow and encourage God's people in their faith.
I agree that your eyes don't have to be closed, but some believe it's more respectful to do such things.
Let us remember the Freedom the Lord gave us to worship him. These are good suggestions. I pray a lot during worship my hope is that everyone is in prayer. There is so much to this subject...pray hard particularly for the church today. Fan into Flame!!! Boaz and the Band
short is NOT always better...kinda have to disagree, because sometimes, when we have prayer, and we have time to think and talk to God, and we sing the chorus again after the prayer, we sing quite a long time because we mean what we sing and we want to sing with our hearts forever..(one time i even cried while singing the chorus a billion times because i really Sensed God's presense in me...so time is sometimes not a factor...
Hey timofly2...awesome if you serve a pastor who allows free worship without time constraint, but Paul has a point in that we do have to be aware of our role in serving a particular congregation.
One pastor instructed me, "Don't pray; I'll do that. And don't read scripture; I'll do that. Just sing the songs."
Well, when your heart leads you to quote scripture or to pray, sometimes you can shorten it to respect the pastor who has authority in that house. You might even get invited to come back.
i totally don't agree with your pastor at all, there is no one with more authority than others. Under God, everyone.....nevermind. u can quote scriptures to help explain the song ur singing. like Alshadai or some other song, people might not know what it means, u can explain what it means. As a worshipper I rather have an intimate worship than have the music only played well and no one knows what they are singing.
true. i agree with you, but it might be the pastor salkworksmusic mentioned has worried that some worship leaders say things without a good and true understanding of the Word.
Or away from a particular interpretation of the truth. As we are invited to lead Christian worship in houses of various denominations, it is wise to avoid prayer that promotes a particular doctrine that might conflict with that of the denomination to whom you are ministering. A couple of examples would be how some denominations view baptism and communion differently.
Love God, love others, seek wisdom, and keep common Christian attitudes of the heart. Our fellowship and prayer is in Christ.
Good point, joo02. We do have to be aware and respectful of the pastor's role as we receive direction from the pastor, as the band/worship team receives direction from the worship leader.
thank you so much for taking the time to do this I had these questions when i lead youth group worship and im interested in beeing a worship leader i have one guitar question do you ever use dadgad tunning

Hi, I just saw your message. Did you get that prayer answered. If not, I would like to join in prayer with you.
God bless.
