@aardvark9100 In Europe there's a pilot project that has proven to be very successful, retrofitting guard rails to make them safer (read: non-lethal) for bikers. What they do is add another horizontal rail below the one already there, maybe 2" off the ground. That stops the biker from sliding under the rail and getting limbs caught in the vertical supports, which is the main cause of injuries in those types of crashes. However its expensive in materials and labor costs.
Who cares! There are a hell of a lot more cars on the road then bikes. Plus, cars are going to contain all the families and small children. So why shouldn't they make the roadways more safe for cars. Motorcyclists understand the extra risks, and they're gonna die no matter what they hit anyways.

Sorry, nothing short of a stack of loose hay will offer certain protection for a motorcyclist traveling at freeway speeds. This is obviously not a viable option. Wouldn't it be better to limit the bike to a speed that a rider can survive a terrain crash with some degree of certainty, unfortunately around 50 km/h? I'm guessing that's not an option either which raises the question why have bikes at all if they are so dangerous?

@ESAPOWER If you're on the bike, you're going in the same direction. Bailing doesn't allow you to change direction. it's not like you can bail and go 90 degrees in a different direction. You will continue on the same path as the bike, and hit whatever is there...without the benefit of the bike's brakes to slow down as much as possible.
On the Florida Turnpike, they've installed a crazy triple cable a good 75 feet inside the right of way to keep CARS from going into drainage canals. Little chance to avoid in a car and deadly for bikers. Before, most cars would be able to recover control or stop. Now they're shredded and totaled.

Fancy posting a video of a bike going up the old ramp-style barrier ends? Fifth gear put a car on one at something like 40mph and it ended up airborne and into a sign. Imagine a bike doing that. Any vehicle having a collision with a roadside object is in immediate danger - and also, there are far more cars on high speed routes than cyclists. Safety barriers are very politically correct and all, but I think giant rusty spikes would be better suited to the task. I have no idea how people are always hitting shit. If you put it out there, it's going to be hit sooner or later.
So, big ol nasty spikes would:
1) give retards real incentive to stay the F out.
2) remove from the gene pool those who are still too stupid or inept they can't avoid being impaled.

You know those 4-5" i-beams that hold up steel guard rail you see on highways everywhere--you know, the same kind which have f-upped more motorcyclists than *anything else* on the road? Cut those to 45 degree angles pointed in the direction of traffic. If you have enough of those in the right place, they'll stop a semi tractor/trailer.

Fancy posting a video of a bike going up the old ramp-style barrier ends? Fifth gear put a car on one at something like 40mph and it ended up airborne and into a sign. Imagine a bike doing that. Any vehicle having a collision with a roadside object is in immediate danger - and also, there are far more cars on high speed routes than cyclists. Greatest good for the greatest number, and all that.

I get tired of car drivers whining about trees etc. all the time. They're in a bloody car, what did they expect? We can't just cover the world in hello kitty cushions because some people have voluntarily chosen to strap themselves into a metal cage with airbags and crumple zones that cannot help them at any speed above 70 Km/h (43 mph) when hitting a tree or another not deformable and not movable barrier like a wall.

No there're just too many trees to even bother to put guardrails infront of them. Here we have guardrail so you don't drive of cliffs and bridges What's the problem? Head-on collisions kills motorcyclists just as much if not even more. We have fences here to avoid elk/moose collisions aswell. Because they're lethal for both cars and motorcyclists. Shall we remove them aswell so that pedestrians don't get tangled up in them?

Riding exposed on a lightweight motorcycle is inherently dangerous just due to the laws of physics (heavy mass vs. light mass + imminent passenger ejection from the vehicle). If your desire is to be safe while traveling at 100 km/h, drive in an enclosed vehicle.
