I used to like Stained, but not as much as I used to (still like some of it). Huge Alice In Chains fan. Aaron did a really good job covering this song, I like both versions Layne's and Aaron's versions. Kudos!
I dont get why people want Aaron to take Layne's place. He has his own band lol, and Duval, although he may not have Layne's exact range, has a pretty great voice and I think is a fitting replacement.
@wrxdotfine I disagree, I love Aaron covering AIC becuase he carries the emotion and Pain that came with everything Layne sung.. But hey, thats just my opinion, This is a chilling Cover for sho'
@Jept By different you mean a fist pumping wide eyed man running around the stage trying to get the audience to sing along to songs such as Nutshell by saying moronic things like "join in if you know the words". Because that's DuVall.

it takes a great musician to admit that legacy is everything.. sometimes there is nothing else to write..but it is never sad to keep playing the greats...........
Something interesting about people saying how approachable Mr Lewis is and how cool he is. I read in one of the comments that they said staind was going soft and selling out. The same emotional sensitivity that keeps this guy grounded is what is comes across so profoundly in his acoustic covers and originals. I really dig the one man and a guitar style. Its the purity of some of these songs and the power of the lyrics that I really dig, not all the power chords and anger.
I agree, I love songs like "can't believe" and albums such as Toremented, Dysfuntion, etc. But his acoustic shows/covers, show a different side to him. The guy is multi-talented. His lyrics are by far the best. Even if they're the deep emotion lyrics he makes them get across on an acoustic guitar. He doesn't need to scream and have a moshpit headbanging to get his point across.
If there were every someone who should take the spot left behind by Layne Staley it's him...Obviously he will never sound the way Layne did but who will. He would bring a different element to that band but just the fact at how Staley was a big part of his life, and how well he covers Staley's songs...I think he should go for it...LOL. I think many people would prefer him over the current guy who isn't half bad I might add.
my absolute cover by staind....what a great song, sung by the most impressive mr. lewis....what a great talent he is & truly down to earth....keep rockin us aaron!
Nevermind the B.S, this song was dedicated to my friend Shawn by his father in his memory. I never knew about this song until I read it in the paper. I broke out tears to it..still do...
I agree seether is a good band... not so much with papa roach but still.... and i think that lopro would be a good permanent opener for them their amazing and so underrated
Guys, stop ripping on Duvall. He's not trying to replace Layne, no one is. They're doing benefits and shows for his memory. It's all about Layne, even after he's dead.
Anyways, Aaron is fucking incredible, probably the best male vocals in music today. He's got incredible taste in music, too. And this is a badass song, my favourite AiC.<333
Duvall sucks balls...he sings like a whiny bitch. No one can replace Layne...AIC should hang it up and leave the past the past. Aaron is a great singer and songwriter...I saw Staind in Providence, RI in 1998 when they were just a cover band. Doesn't surprise me he's out doing covers on the side now.
hey im with u on put Aaron lewis in for duvall duvall can suck on my nutz Aaron acctually felt laynes words in his lyrics and as he said in his interview layne helped him through some hard times i think Aaron would be perfect for AIC expecally if they did more unpulgged tours caz thats what Aaron is good at
Amen man. Exactly what I was thinking. I think they want a new great voice, but they should stick with a Layne type voice. And that's exactly what Arron has.
this piece is like sacred to so many people..you start listening to it, and with every note you think you will hear the melody of that voice burned in your head.. and yet no, its sb else singing it, paying tribute to that voice..seems to you he's trying to avoid that singing pattern on purpose, out or respect.. in a word, great job...
It would have been a shame if staind had not happened. It took staind to get aaron this far so he could privilege us by sharing something so special. I saw him in Richmond, VA. dude has skills. im so happy to have been there.
It would have been heavenly. I love that Aaron's a fan of lots of different artists. Back in 2001 I got to meet & hang out w/ Staind (by pure coincidence) after a show at the Rock Hall, and he was sittin' there singing "Yellow" by Coldplay--it sounded great! And I'll never forget, he said "I've had this song stuck in my head ALL DAY." It was funny. What a cool, laid-back guy.
I met Aaron on a few occasions now, twice this year so far. Awesome guy!! I'll be meeting Staind as a group for the first time on July 18th in Hartford, CT, ironically......the same exact place Staind got it's big break from Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit. Should be awesome as always!!
I saw Aaron in Richmond, VA. It was sad. There were so many empty seats. His performance was touching and one I will never forget. One of the greatest voices ever.
My favorite cover of all time he nails it! his voice range is truly amazing

Hands down greatest AIC cover ever.
I love Aaron, he is always so amazing.
I wish I could have seen Layne and him perform this song together.
I think I would cry, haha.
Thank you for the great vids.
Subscribing... (:

Correction 1995-96 before Fred thrust them onto the national stage.

Aaron sounds amazing~! and what a true friend of Layne to respectfully cover his songs. Not like Duvall
akamslaynestaley 3 years ago 4
I agree with Loki627...put Lewis in Duvall's place.....I think Layne would be proud of that!

hey im with u on put Aaron lewis in for duvall duvall can suck on my nutz Aaron acctually felt laynes words in his lyrics and as he said in his interview layne helped him through some hard times i think Aaron would be perfect for AIC expecally if they did more unpulgged tours caz thats what Aaron is good at
loki627 3 years ago 4
Amen man. Exactly what I was thinking. I think they want a new great voice, but they should stick with a Layne type voice. And that's exactly what Arron has.
GodlyVayne 3 years ago 3
+3 for Aaron Lewis. Lewis is actually a AIC fan.

this piece is like sacred to so many people..you start listening to it, and with every note you think you will hear the melody of that voice burned in your head.. and yet no, its sb else singing it, paying tribute to that voice..seems to you he's trying to avoid that singing pattern on purpose, out or respect.. in a word, great job...

It would have been a shame if staind had not happened. It took staind to get aaron this far so he could privilege us by sharing something so special. I saw him in Richmond, VA. dude has skills. im so happy to have been there.

Can you imagine if Aaron and Layne would have recorded a song together? woah.
ntf284 3 years ago 2
That would be incredible!!!
jeffprescott1228 3 years ago
It would have been heavenly. I love that Aaron's a fan of lots of different artists. Back in 2001 I got to meet & hang out w/ Staind (by pure coincidence) after a show at the Rock Hall, and he was sittin' there singing "Yellow" by Coldplay--it sounded great! And I'll never forget, he said "I've had this song stuck in my head ALL DAY." It was funny. What a cool, laid-back guy.
ntf284 3 years ago
I met Aaron on a few occasions now, twice this year so far. Awesome guy!! I'll be meeting Staind as a group for the first time on July 18th in Hartford, CT, ironically......the same exact place Staind got it's big break from Fred Durst and Limp Bizkit. Should be awesome as always!!
jeffprescott1228 3 years ago
Awesome, have fun! And thanks for sharing these videos with us; they're great.
