This film is so deeply disturbing there is no point in trying to imitate it. Even the normally wooden Britt Ekland contributes (albeit with a voice over). Just brilliant.
Perhaps it's better on TV than the bigger screen it was intended for.
Willow seems quite content to be known as the local whore and have horny old men sing about her while she's still in the room. She even joins in. Good for her. XD
A brilliant cult classic and has, of late, grown in popularity! The original film was cut to shreds with important parts missing, for example, Lord Summerisle takes Howie on a sort of guided tour and almost all of this has been lost, what a shame. The original release was only 84 mins and the restored version, with edited parts put back in, took it up to 99 mins. Still though there are parts missing according to Christopher Lee and he's convinced they are out there, somewhere. Great Film!!!
@yorkie6687 there are just some comments you cannot let pass without pointing out the dumb arsed ignorance of the poster, even though you are aware that the whole process is completely pointless.
Wicca is a fantasy that only exists at all because of these "yanks".
The greatest movie ever made!!! Thanx for the shitty remake which serves to illustrate the brilliance of this 1973 version. Music by Paul Giovanni who died of AIDS. I remember first seeing it on channel 9 in NY as a teenager in it's hacked up form. So when it came out on VHS then DVD uncut it was unreal to see it in its intended continuity. The actors froze to death during october filming for a film set in april!
They are torturing him, of course, or maybe that's too strong, maybe teasing him is more appropriate. No, on second thoughts I'll go for torturing him. They are alluding to sex and he is in denial over sex. A great scene, anyway, from a great film, far far better than the remake.
This is definitely a remarkable production. It's sad to see that people used to be so extremely good and passionate about acting just 30 years ago. Most movies made after late 90's forward have horrible acting. In this original Wicker Man, every single resident of Summerisle has acted so well that the atmosphere looks creepy and insane. What a great movie! Bravo!
she makes cheryl cole and megan fox look like plastic dogs. U dont see britt with fake teeth, hair and loads of make up. She doesnt need it, natural beauty!
Love this song and the music in this movie....the 2006 remake doesnt compare to the natural element of fun that the native people of that Scottish Island brought to this movie.
@thestrongtiger82 I thought the line was "...as the path that lies between her left toe - and her right toe." The accents were very thick but I thought that what was sung. Classic film! I stayed away from the "re-imagining" and, judging by past postings, I made the right decision.
jings! Have ye heard those accents? Whenever I watch pre '80's British films i'm reminded of the fact that almost all of the available actors were middle class thesps who thought the north was Highgate.
Just delicious, as is the entire film. You can tell that the "uncut" scenes are spliced in here, as the picture quality changes. Every single song, every scene is just brilliant. Note how all of these videos on youtube are 5 star rated! Buy the special boxed edition video set, which includes the uncut (no pun) version. They often show the cut version of television and you miss those great scenes with Willowdancing (even if it is actually somebody else's backside!). Wow what ta ta's!
This song and the film embody everything that I stand for! Christopher Lee's favorite (and best) role! "You were brought up to be a PAGAN!!!!" Heh, heh. And they don't make girls like that anymore, do they?
I love both versions of this movie. The remake is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, and the original is genuinely creepy as fuck (and has goddamn musical numbers! A musical horror movie! How awesome is that?)
I agree the original kicks ass. The nick cage remake is a poor imitation. Luv this song. and that landlord daughter ass and body. made this gentle man stand at attention.
This film is strange. The acting was moderate, and in parts awful. The Scottish accents most unconvincing and the plot predictable. And yet it gained cult status, and is ingrained in the mind forever. Disturbing.

the cop was a complete faggot in this movie i mean cum on not once did he look interested in women and thats why the move did have a happy ending PS i love the hippy days i do anything to get those days back.screw the governments now legalize weed on a global scale or else.
Disturbing movie? Are you kidding. I think it has a happy ending. They really did a number on the stiff necked copper. If Scotland and Ireland still practiced the old Pagan religion, they would be better off. No wars over a christian religion.
Why don't you think if wicca was the majority religion in ireland they would find some thing in wicca that would divide them and would start them fighting. Don't tell me Wicca proclaims peace among it's followers read what Jesus said and you would find the same.
Let's just understand it's not Christianity that leads to these disputes it's people's unwavering prejudices. I'm pretty sure wishing someone dead like that isn't very wiccan of you. Ask yourself what would Gerald Gardner do?
The cause of the 'Troubles' in northern Ireland, though when simplified to foreign audiences may seem like it is about religion, but it is about so much more.
It's not merely catholics versus protestants, although that may be used as a front.
The fact is that the top half of the country has a population that mainly identifies itself with Britain, the fight they were fighting was one of nationality and a feeling of being under siege (unionists) or being invaded (nationalists)
I always get the impression from this scene that Edward Woodward did a lot of laughing in the outtakes!!! I mean would you be able to keep your face straight at this song!
Evil is relative. These people had no choice but to sacrifice to their gods for restored fertility. Apart from that, it was a pretty enjoyable religion! I, for one, would never miss a service.
When I heard about the horrendous prospect of the Cage/La Bute excrescence, I decided never even to mention it and hope it died a quick death. Luckily, that seems to be exactly what has happened. Nothing can or will touch the original.
Lindsay Kemp is kind of creepy. Funny to think he taught mime and interpretive dance to David Bowie and Kate Bush.
I will forever adore this movie and forever be sad that Hollywood got its sticky fingers in into it. But I also realise that it was the Americans (back then) who made sure The Wickerman was given a chance (while it had been al but written off in Britain). The remake was a very ill conceived idea. But for those many thousands of us whom have always loved the original, well, what can I say? I for one will take the landlord's daughter any time....
What a movie. This is simply the best movie to ever bless our world. The script, acting, story, atmosphere, and Pagan magic is absolutely fascinating. The remake is a crime against humanity. Hail to the Queen of the May.
