  • No disrespect to Mr. Lightfoot, but Deryl Dodd's version is better.

  • @TheTalltexan111 have you lost your mind

  • Breaking Bad?

  • great fuckin tune, simple as that.

  • "I can see her lyin' back in her satin dress in a room where you do what you don't confess"..."sometimes I think it's a shame when I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain..."

This song is in the pocket, groove is solid and the lyrics are Gordo Gold.

  • Google Cathy Evelyn Smith and you'll see who this song was written about.

  • @walkenshaw2000 Wow, that Cathy Evelyn Smith was a real trouble maker, she's "killed" John Belushi too.

  • @terabitnetworks She drove Lightfoot almost mad with jealousy. You had trouble if she was in your life.

  • actually written about a prostitute. really. No one does folk like Gordon lightfoot.

  • @SSKnight1942 nobody does FOLK (which Gordon Lightfoot is not!) like Peter, Paul and Mary, Arlo Guthrie, His dad Woodie, etcetera . THAT is folk music

  • Ah three part harmony done right. I wonder if the dubstep folks even know what that is (besides from the songs they hear on their USB turntables, lol).

  • @TimeLapseSteve I dont even reckon Dubstep know what music is in general......

  • this wii take ya there

  • great ballad

  • Ah... Real music....

  • dudes a dude

  • sundown on a good spot makes this song roll with it

  • They don't make music like this anymore!

  • @Videodude893 Music like this gets made every day. It just doesn't get a lot of love. Sam Roberts carries the torch of straightforward guitar rock.

  • never get tired of hearing it

  • yes...makes me want to be in a smoky pool hall ....lookin for love ...lol.....Great Song ! Love it..

  • this song reminds of zombies o_o

  • Timeless, classic, legendary! the list goes on..

  • Incredible melody and fascinating, insightful lyrics. I never get tired of this song. It's almost haunting...

Makes me want to drink beers in a dark, seedy bar someplace too ;)

  • LOOKS LIKE A YOUNG BRIAN CRANSTON....

  • @TheTissueguy I agree

  • best bass lines

  • A song par excellence.

  • Any bassists want to post some tabs, even incomplete ones? The only ones I can find are obviously wrong.

  • Great song! Timeless!

  • I love this song so much :)

  • What a great sound...

  • Timeless song

  • Blew my allowance of dimes filling the juke box in Sugar Lodge (Grand Rapids, MN) in the Summer of 1975 replaying this song over and over again. I did not understand the meaning of the lyrics, I was twelve, but the song touched me. I wanted to hear it. I still remember the look my oldest brother gave me when I asked him where this song was on the Juke box. Priceless.

  • was playin records last night, didnt ever put 2 and 2 together, gords great, but tom rush is like gettin gords but more!

  • GO SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF THIS EURYTHMICS AND THIS GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes! He is very talented. Saw him in Atlantic City and just as good live! Impressive!

  • This song was supposedly written about Cathy Evelyn Smith, the woman who was was with John Belushi when he o.d.'ed.

  • @walkenshaw2000 I'd have never guessed. I bet Gordon is glad now he dodged that bullet.

  • I'm pretty much on my own in this, but I really thought this guy was super talented.

  • I agree with completely agree with you WEBER

  • The feel in this song. Unreal.

  • Love all the same grooves as WEBER, does anyone else feel the blues on that guitar???

  • He had something powerful with this song, and this is coming from someone who loves Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix/Band of Gypsys, Black Sabbath, UFO, Soundgarden, Queens Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Cream, Pink Floyd, SRV, Ten Years After, The Who, Yes, etc., etc.

  • @WEBERisAbadCOACH I'm 65 years old I love Foo fighters , Nirvana , Pixies, Larry and His Flask , Vans warped tour. basically all music. I met Gordon and Red Shea in 63 and I still dig it

  • 4 unfortunate deaf people found this page somehow.

  • @24thStDJ tried to "like" your comment, can't figure it out! so true!

  • @1ChuckUFarley yeah bud liver still in recovery

  • I love the melody of this song it's so catchy...I am thinking to post it on my facebook....But Naaaaaaaaaaaaaa..........People thought I'm in to something....So I better just listen it in here....I really love Gordon Lightfoot all his songs is beautiful!

  • I had a teacher in grade school who sounded PERFECTLY like Gordon Lightfoot. To prove it, he recorded himself and asked us to tell the difference. We couldn't.

  • Great drum work by Jim Gordon.

  • This was my song.

  • @metronomic1 Lucky!

  • @metronomic1 awesome idea! I'm on it. thanks

  • @metronomic1 mine is "The Reflex" by Duran Duran

  • @indyfan22k JEALOUS!

  • @metronomic1 The song on my birthday was Baby one more time. UHHHHHH

  • @metronomic1 F**cking A. Live with no shame.

  • @metronomic1 I found the song for my birthday, but I didn't like it. So I scrolled back through the years, and what do you know, on my birthday in 1974 this song was #1. So I'm just going to pretend that I'm 47.

  • @amishw123 aaa you mean 37 not 47 don't make some of us older than we already are grrr!

math is fun math is our friend

  • @metronomic1 And shame you were most certainly without Lol

  • I like the song and the recording, if you listen closely can you hear each instrument being played? Can you hear that they each have their own space in the recording? Surely not a masterpiece by Justin BB Brain!

  • good song

  • only in canada . feeling no pain;

  • who is Kesha or Ke$ha? i must be old..lol sounds like a dogs name.

  • @MsDossLady50 You ae lucky not knowing about her...I envy you all wh have nt had the misfortune of listening to the screeching of the mythical beast Ke$ha...In a high school, she is second language, so I bump up the volume on my iPod and play some Seals and Crofts, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, and of course good old Gordon Lightfoot!

  • @MsDossLady50 She is a wanna-be Lady Gaga with zero of her talent.

  • If we have to explain is too late

  • we know

  • it funny when people can not just enjoy the music ,just listen thats all you gotta do .

  • who the fuck is Ke$ha? and why should I care? todays music blows,no talent any more, same fuckin' beat all the time,go to a club, it's just one awful, never ending beat,no talent hacks...

  • This is OLD SCHOOL! And still cool!

  • LOVE this song !!!

  • Great song !!!

  • Great song! First big Canadian performer to hit it big prior to The Guess Who, Neil Young and Rush.

  • @Raelspark How about Ian&Sylvia, Joannie Mitchell, etc? And, I'm from the "lower 48".

  • @bigmarty56

    April Wine !!

  • i remeber my mom whippin my ass while this song played lol

  • Nothing like the time period I grew up in. Born in "68" my parents always had the LP's turning with I feel the greatest sounds ever produced.....

  • my friend said hed rather listen to lil wayne, so i beat his ass into the concrete

  • Gordon Lightfoot......folk singer.....maybe. Badass........no doubt.

  • I need to say this: Nobody cares how old you are. Just shut the fuck up & listen to the music.

  • I've been a huge Gordon Lightfoot fan since the '70s and he's still touring and performing in style, well into HIS 70s! An outstanding song, brilliantly performed by Gordon and his band.

  • I am only 32 but my Ipod is filled with music from the 80s and before. I can't stand today's music. It's all about gimmicks and drama. talent doesn't matter anymore and the talented one's no longer have a decent audience.

  • @kcowank

Amen to that. I'm 26 and pretty much feel the same way. I have a handful of newer stuff that I just find catchy but 99% of it is crap. This song and Wreck of the Fitzgerald get a lot of playtime on my iPod.

  • The best music has long gone. So glad I'm old enough to have been a part of it!

  • Perfect music 30 years later

  • Outstanding track !

Gordon at his very best !!

  • カナディアン偉大シンガー&ソングライター。ゴードン・ライトフット。極め付き曲”サンダウン"~ヴァン・ダイク・パークスも加わった好LPだった!

  • I was lucky enough to be part of his generation

  • @HyKlyf - yea when having a mustache was the norm.

  • i think i know exactly he means. every statement, every verse. that's why this guy is so GOOD, because, apparentlly a lot of other people do, too, regardless of their life experience... i say that makes him a true "poet". this ain't your typical "top 20" hit. very nice work, Mr. LF. The man is so good at what he does.

  • Great song about alcoholism and the daily struggles that go along with it......

  • If you find them creepin' round your back stairs ... club them to death.

or invite them in and then wait for them to attack you .. then club them to death.

    just kidding.

  • @intraining01 amen

  • @intraining01 LMAO!!

  • I was only an infant when this came out but I think its one of the greatest songs to come out of the 70's.

  • Brilliant !

Gordon at his very best .

  • Lightfoot is so underrated. I can't even go a week without listening to him and I love it

  • GL is Canadian?? Fuggetaboutit sheesh.... One cool cat

  • @conse01 Canadian icon! Catching him tomorrow night in Thunder Bay.

  • Yes all, he is past his prime, but back in the day? Fuggetaboutit ! This is one cool cat who ruled in the 70's with an iron fist

  • Gordon Lightfoot looks a lot better without the mustache.

  • I'm a big fan, but when I saw him in concert a year or so ago, I left thinking he needs to retire. His voice is not strong enough anymore. He sounded OK on some songs, not so OK on others. Sorry, just being honest.

  • @megacpaman --the vocal chords get strained and tired. frank sinatra was almost a completely different voice from the 1940/50s to the 80s/90s. and gordon has been singing for decades. probably has tired little vocal chords. :)

  • Seeing him on Friday. I'm pretty excited. :D

  • fantastic tune ...of course

  • i like the picing and the lyric's of this song. reminds of the little town called sundown.

  • music isnt like it use to be

  • @deadman7213 Amen to that. You know the world is ending soon when people like Ke$ha exist and no one knows who Gordon Lightfoot is.

  • @rltw04 Isn't that the truth....

  • @rltw04 Exxxxactly!

  • @rltw04 Why do people randomly attacking modern music in the comments of songs before 1999. Did older people in the '70s write letters to the editor ranting about '70s music when someone wrote about Sinatra?

Yes, most songs today suck, but so did most songs released in 1974. You just forgot them.

Half the people whining about Ke$ha or T. Pain in those comments can't name more than two of their songs anyway. By all means, attack them in their own videos, not those of totally unrelated artists.

  • @kissfan7 Are you smoking crack? Ke$ha is 10x more talented than any of those ghey artists from the 70s. Led Zeppelin couldn't hold a finger to Ke$ha and her musical talent is only getting better as time goes on.

  • @rltw04 At least we can agree that Jessica Black is many times better than both Zeppelin and Ke$ha combined.

    A goddess among mere mortals.

  • @rltw04 I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. I'm actually embarassed for ya hon.

  • @rltw04 who the heck is ke$ha gorden light foot i like dont know who kesha is

  • Gordon Lightfoot and Stompin Tom Connors, two reasons to be proud to be Canadian!

  • i love his voice and you know it has to be real couse this is what the 70's? today's music is mostly computer generated

  • sooo amazing

  • i cant even rmeber the first time i heard this song

  • Get to see Gordon on the 30th ! Can't wait !!

  • it ain' country boy,it's soul...its love it's passion it's folk i guess..but it's soul

  • This song is what 70"s were about and if you were to young... that's cool..but this music defined us..AND IM PROUD OF IT!!

  • Love to see this remade with a little harder sound. Rammstein maybe? Disturbed?

  • @dahger7 Why does everything have to be remade? Movies, music and clothing. Where has all the originality gone?

  • @Snaxxor dont watch, listen or dress with the remade stuff and they will make new and differnt things

  • what a unique vocal he has...

  • Dont fall in love with a flirt !

  • @palmyrarocks Easier said than done.

  • yes...my life now..

  • Gordon Fuckin Lightfoot! Damn..the things a woman can do to a man I tell ya......

  • brings back good memories

  • very cool song a real classic !

  • Just got back from seeing Gordon. When he sang this the house went wild.<3 Gordon always!

  • Brings back memories!!

  • ALWAYS BE PROUD THIS SONG NOT REPRESENT A "GANGSTER ASS SONG" WITHIN YOU.

  • this is a gangster ass song <3

  • @MajinZoot hahahah yes it is ;)

  • Gordon makes you Proud to be Canadian!

  • awesome lyrics.

  • I love this version. Is it Red Shea who was lead guitar here? The strong guitar lead is the best. It made this ROCK.

  • "She's been looking like a queen in a sailor's dream..." What a brilliant descriptive. I was a kid when this song came out and I still got the full imagery of what he meant. Brilliant lyrics, really.

  • i'm glad somebody threw the studio version of this up. what a song!!! what an artist!!!!!!! this will take ya there

  • Probably my favorite song of all time, was 9 when it came out and remember it vividly every time I hear it.

Nothing today can touch the acoustics of the 70's..

  • He outta be thanking the fact that the broad he is singing about ran off and killed John Belushi and not him.

  • i used to storm into my uncle garys room and smell weed and hear this song-now i know just how enlightened he was

  • I sure am glad to hear these thoughts on comparing music. I find I'm hard pressed to like anything since 1994 (Ace of Base). Maybe the record companies will listen to us one day, for a change.

  • chris morris. GLR. 'sundown'. fukkin hilarious

  • im 10 n i lik dx sung

  • Nobody gives a s**t how old you are so scroll up yr missing it!!!

  • My favorite country tune of all time. I'll never forget at the age of 16 driving past Baltimore headin' south on I-95 in the spring of '73 and hearing this song. The memories, oh the memories.

  • "Sundown" was inspired by his then girlfriend, Cathy Smith, later more infamously known for her involvement in the death of John Belushi. Lightfoot has commented in interviews that she was "the one woman in my life who most hurt me."Released in March 1974, "Sundown" allowed Lightfoot to regain the momentum that his career had taken three years earlier with "If You Could Read My Mind"

  • Aaaah it just sucked growing up in the 60's and 70's.There was the Beatles and then there was Gordon Lightfoot. Gordon was the man.

  • My dad had a cat named sundown and i'm pretty sure he loved that cat more than us sad.

  • @coolecup awesome thumbs up comment Coolecup!

  • What a warm sound :)

  • My real soundup-Klipsh and Harmon-Kardon, should sound awesome on this. POS laptop sounds nogood.. I need to raise the Heresy II about 40'. what do you (Cheaply suggest)?
