or you could adapt a rucksack strap to hold a D clip on either end one you attach to your BC and the other is attached to your reg via a clip .... this way you can NEVER lose it unless someone steals it from you and tooks it behind your back... but how often does that happen? lol

Use a long hose on the primary regulator and have the backup around your neck. This solves this non problem.

Yes, the long hose with the bungeed backup is DIR, I have used both ways and the DIR way just happens to work beautifully.

I tend to be a little slow in hose retrieving, especially on rented gear. DIR is just safer.
