When I went thru the fire academy we had a obstacle course that you had to do in 6:00 mintues or less to pass the class that looks identical to this.... i got the best time, however still looking for a job
They say its from 2000, i dunno exactly when but the old rules you couldnt run nowadays the time are so fast things have changed and u can run the whole course at the combat challenge.
your right but tell me how many people can actually run in our bunker boots, and how safe is it really. by running you will also deplete most of your oxygen so its not just dangerous but really stupid.
Oh yeah, I agree, there is rarely a need to run at the scene, but the FFCC, I much prefer running. The walking not only looked goofy, but there was no sure way to insure equal refereeing across the nation (you would get penalized for running in those days).
Been there, done this, and I'm a woman. Competed for 2 years, it's brutal. Saw the Canadian National Champion run the course in 1 minute 39 seconds in 1999. And yes, competitors come from all over the world, male and female, and all ages!!!
I don't see why they wont allow firefighters from other countries join. As long as parts of your county use SCOTT airpacks, i don't see a reason they wouldn't allow you to join.
weird technique the guys used to pull the hoses up. Thumbs up seems like a lot more stress on the biceps which makes it less powerful. SOOOO much rope was hangin off it was rediculous
plus they teach you that, when your pulling rope, if it falls or something it willnt break your hand wrist fingeres. It's harder. But what good are you with a busted wrist/hand.
What an excellent tribute to all those who train the hardest... to be their absolute best... but not only to compete... but to make even a bigger difference... where it truly counts. Great job to all the competitors! 3w's.hftfire dot com
Firefighters dont run, they MOVE WITH A PURPOSE!!! Thers a difference.

Fire Fighters don't run, the emergency will be there regardless of whether we run or not, so its better to be safer.

nadinafire12 3 years ago
right, because any sane person knows you don't run on scene. that would be just silly. (also dangerous)
jlkintner767 3 years ago 3
why are they walking the course? new rules i havent heard about?
firefightingmash 4 years ago
I didn't think you were supposed to run on the fire ground due to safety reasons.
Anon4this1 4 years ago 6
youre not, but whenever I watch the competitions they run
firefightingmash 4 years ago
not in the cpat test you can not run except during the hose drag its saftey in scbas u can hyperventilate easily
chevyrulzs2010 4 years ago
of course they cant run, run in the real thing and you are bound to hyperventilate...
cctxfirefighter 3 years ago
Umm, no. You do have to pace yourself, but if you are in shape, running in full turnout gear and SCBA will not make you hyperventilate.

Safe? Are we talking about this in the context of the fireground or the FFCC?
