The proctor's want to hear 3 things. That the bottle is at least 90% full, The low pressure alarm activated (or system is charged), and the gauges read the same pressure. I only heard what seemed to be "20 sir" and "seal sir" LOL!
BTW, gloves don't need to be on during the drill. Smacking them together signifies you are ready to be inspected. No corrections. 100% pass. Miss something you fail.
please tell me the process of the fire exploring program as you progress, and how long it takes to get to each level or certification etc or other things...
Good job. A few problems. 1: You failed to check your seal, 2: You failed to go through the checklist, 3: Your helmet was not on when you threw your SCBA, and 4: You failed to put your gloves on all the way. Still a good time though. I have the same MSA pack. Only difference between mine and yours is that my mask has a gray outer face piece and not black lol.
@nsrailfann4life91 well i just took my practicals for state cert and you dont need your helmet on to donn the pack he did check the seal, but forgot to check his remote pressure and state his pass device was active plus the gloves. all in alln he would have been under 60 seconds and did fine..
@misterirish26 True. He paced himself which at times can be a bit better than rushing. I remember my first donning. I rushed and ended up screwing up. I forgot to check my seal and even forgot to turn my air on lmao. I did it again, but paced myself and did everything correctly. It makes a difference.
@nsrailfann4life91 i don't know if you've been taught differently? but i just took this and the instructor said you can lay it out how ever you want to, but your helmet doesn't need to be on. that goes on last, before the gloves.
@KVFDbyrd252 Yes, you are right. It is just a safety measure that FEW departments prefer. It is not regulation. Here is the list of what order we put our gear at my dept.
1- Turnout pants and boots. 2- Nomex hood. 3- Turnout Coat. 4- Air-Pak. 5- Facepiece. 6- Pull Nomex hood around facepiece. 7- Go through SCBA checklist. 8- Helmet. 9- Gloves. and 10- Place regulator in facepiece and breathe. Then you're done.
Part of this time being a bit slower is because he is using an older SCBA that has a screw on hosed system like mine does. Modern SCBAs are easy clamp n' go systems. This particular MSA SCBA was certified for 1981 NFPA standards. I have the same one and still use it today, cuz believe it or not, it still passes regulations. Had this been a clamp n go like a Scott or Drager pack, he would got about 32 seconds on it.
Where I volunteer, from bunker clothing, we are required to don the full gear and be breathingair from the Scott SCBA after gloves and helmetare in place in less than 2 minutes. Usually we don around 1 minute.
The drill the video is showing is know as ours "30 second drill". In less than 30 seconds, you should doff helmet, gloves, and turn on the scba, don the face piece, hood, helmet, gloves and connect the regulator to the face piece in less than 30 secs.
wow.. nice gloves.. and only did 2/5 of the straps for the mask.. some companies in my area use them. they are really usefull when your out of air tho. just shuve that hose in your radio pocket and u can filter breathe ez.
i don't really know about the types of SCBA, my company uses SCOTT packs and they have a silver hard tube. on the other hand we have one of those (in the video) on our wall, it's from the fucking 80s
stomach straps should be first so all the weight is on your lower back not your shoulders my shoulder straps arent even snug its alot better for your back and youll last longer
Good job to this guy, Most firemen get packed up enroute to the scene, I feel that getting all your gear on in 40 secs would be better. I have only had one time where I needed to pack up at the station for real, car fire across the street Lol.
when you rush to get your gear on then you can make mistakes that could cost you ... I get the tern out gear on befor getting i the truck and scba while in route as all our scba's are in the seats
Nowadays my FD want's you to don it in less than a minute. I don it in like 1:20 ish around there but that won't cut it. Back to the FD for more practice I guess. Where is this guy that he has a mask with a tube that goes to his belt I think I saw? And an oddly shaped helmet. No offense I just never saw it before.
It looks like an 'old' (80's) Scott II or IIa SCBA. Brings back memories. I'm sure the kid donning this is an explorer or a junior firefighter and using older equipment - look not only at the SCBA, but also his TOG. May not be as pretty as the new stuff, but they work. I used those old air packs for many years.
Yea, we had a few guys well under a minute in street clothes to breathing air in under a minute, and that is no skin exposed ect... Some into the high fourties I think. It is totally doable!! The gloves thing would be a flag around here...
that was kinda slow. my fastest time for ppe and scba everything was 41 secs. took this guy 40 secs just to do the scba.. i'm not bragging but he need more work..
Why would you have your helmet on then have to take it off to don the mask and hood? I can understand the concept for safety, but if you are that accident prone, do the coat method.
its a separate test. you have a certain amount of time to don the ppe. when that is done you need to take off your hood, gloves, and helmet in order to get ready to be timed on donning your scba.
I always find it interesting how requirements vary from place to place. For over the head were required for our helmet to be on and to have our gloves completely on.
Actually, 45 seconds for full PPE and SCBA is possible. We train to go from street clothes to full PPE and SCBA on air in 2 minutes. But we have one student who has done this in 47 seconds. Our state test only requires 3 minutes. I'll try and get a video for you guys this week.
And by the way, the guy in this video didn't put on his chest strap. Would have failed for that.
TTaz02, if you can do that all in 45 seconds I would be shocked but hey if you can more power to you. Put a video up so we all can see this 45 second full turnout dress and proper SCBA donning.
Hmm... I wonder if his hands get a bit toasty when he goes into a real fire, anyone else wonder the same thing? Lol
